Peterborough United have had a bid accepted by Oldham Athletic for Rangers target George Edmundson, Football Insider can reveal. The English League One club have been Rangers’ closest rivals for the defender’s signature and a source close to the situation has told Football Insider they have agreed a price of £600,000 plus add-ons following talks. Edmundson, 21, handed in transfer request at Oldham last month after they rejected two bids, worth up to £500,000 plus add-ons, from Rangers for his services. The player has made it clear he wants to sign for the Glasgow giants and this has given the club hope they can see off interest in him from teams south of the border. However, the Posh bid threatens to scupper Rangers’ hopes of signing a player who is one of their key summer targets in what represents a major blow. Manager Steven Gerrard is in the market for two new centre-backs this window after the end of Joe Worrall’s loan from Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley’s contract expiration later this month. Edmundson is in demand after an impressive season for Oldham that ended with him scooping the club’s Player of the Year award and being named in the EFL League Two Team of the Year. Rangers remain interested in signing Edmundson, although the pressure is on them to match or exceed Peterborough’s offer. https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-rangers-blow-as-english-club-have-player-bid-accepted-after-multiple-ibrox-offers/ -

Rangers set to re-sign Liverpool's Ryan Kent despite Aston Villa and Leeds United interest - reports The latest transfer news from Anfield with Steven Gerrard expected to win the race for Reds youngster. By Aidan McCartneySports Wire Content Editor 19:42, 10 JUN 2019 Liverpool attacker Ryan Kent could be set to re-join Steven Gerrard on loan at Rangers for the 2019/20 season, according to the latest reports. Kent enjoyed an impressive loan spell with the Gers last term and Gerrard is keen to bring the PFA Scotland young player of the year back to Ibrox for another campaign. MailOnline now report that Rangers are set to sign the 22-year-old on loan despite interest from Premier League new-boys Aston Villa and Championship side Leeds United. Liverpool would prefer to send the youngster back out on loan – but will listen to any permanent bids with Kent valued at £12million. Gerrard revealed last month he had made a new loan offer for Kent, who scored six goals and provided nine assists in 42 appearances in all competitions in Scotland. “We're doing everything we can,” Gerrard said. “But there's nothing to say on it or to confirm it. For our supporters, what I can do is guarantee that I'm doing everything I can to get him in for another season.” “We've spoken to Liverpool , we're in touch with Ryan's representatives and we've made an offer. The Scottish side have also been in touch with Liverpool about taking winger Sheyi Ojo for the season, according to the Mail. The 21-year-old winger is highly-rated at Anfield and could sign a new deal before heading out on loan. He has previously spent spells at Wigan Athletic, Wolves and Fulham before a stint with with Stade Reims in France last season. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/rangers-set-re-sign-liverpools-16409916 -

2. James Tavernier (Rangers) The Rangers captain has always had doubts about his defensive capabilities, especially when he made the step up from the Scottish Championship to the top flight. Yet, he continues to improve in that area but what he provides going forward more than outweighs any weaknesses behind him. Most assists, most crosses, third-most passes, most through balls, most key passes, second-most progressive runs, 12th for defensive duels and 12th for dribbles. He's a tour de force. 1. Kieran Tierney (Celtic) It has probably been Tierney's most difficult season of his career, and he still played a big part in the treble treble for his boyhood team. Groin and hip issues robbed him of around 20 appearances but such a setback could stand him in good stead going forward, wherever that may be. He is the best full-back in the league and the most talented player in the country. Celtic played better when he was in the team, driving forward and providing a threat from the left with Scott Sinclair still somewhat off the boil. When he is out of the team it gives the opposition a huge lift. Read into that what you will.

RANGERS manager Steven Gerrard has reportedly made an approach for Sweden defender Martin Olsson after the club received a boost in their quest to keep star forward Alfredo Morelos. Rangers bosses will not be granting Gerrard a big transfer budget this summer if Morelos is to remain at Ibrox. However, that won’t have any bearing on any deal to bring Olsson to the club with the defender available on a free transfer after being released by Swansea City at the expiration of his contract last month. Swedish outlet Expressen have claimed that Rangers are one of several clubs to show their interest in the former Premier League man, who is keen to add join a new club sooner rather than later in pre-season. In regards to Morelos, fans will be pleased to hear that Eintracht Frankfurt will not be pursing the Columbian as part of their plans to replace Real Madrid’s new signing Luka Jovic. According to the Daily Record, the 22-year-old will only leave Scotland if Champions League football is on the table, which has ruled out Frankfurt as well as Nice and Marseille. When asked about the future of the 30-goal striker prior to the end of the season, assistant boss Gary McAllister made the club’s stance clear, but also offered the player a warning. "Alfredo has had an amazing season,” he said. "He's a player who I think has got loads of potential and going down the line there's a top, top international footballer there. "Just be patient, he'll be OK. We have to remember, he's still only 22 so he has plenty of time. "Hopefully missing out is a lesson. He's a young man and he's got to be learning and taking everything on board. "There's been a lot said about the fella. We try as a coaching staff to advise, senior players in the dressing room speak to him as well.” Morelos, who received five red cards in all competitions last season, was criticised by his manager Gerrard during the season and even suggested that he had decided to let the striker leave. “I’ll deal with that internally. He will be punished,” Gerrard said after Morelos was dismissed against Celtic in March. “The punishment will be financial and the money will go to the supporters who went to the game today. “I think it’s only right. He’s let his teammates and the club down again. I can’t defend him anymore. I think I’ve gone above and beyond. “He’s still a fantastic player, I’ll still protect him, but it gets to a line and he was probably already above that line with me.” https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1137194/Rangers-transfer-news-Steven-Gerrard-Alfredo-Morelos-Martin-Olsson-Scottish-Premiership -
