KENNY MILLER was shown the door by Rangers. What hurts to this day is that it was the one at the back. The striker gave the Ibrox club everything he had in three separate spells. In return they handed him a BIN BAG to clear his locker and go. Miller’s crime was to stand alongside club captain Lee Wallace and demand higher standards from a Graeme Murty team that lost 4-0 to Celtic in a Scottish Cup semi-final. An independent SPFL tribunal eventually cleared their names and reputations. But the damage had been done. And Miller will never forget the way he exited the club he’d scored 116 goals for in 301 appearances. The striker, who has just signed a 12-month deal with Partick Thistle at 39, told SunSport: “It’s not been a great 14 months, having left Livingston after only a handful of games as manager and then being relegated with Dundee. “But leaving Rangers in the manner I did was the worst part of that because of what the club means to me and the things I have achieved at the club and the service I gave. “Big Waldo had the same kind of ending and I’m sure he will feel the same. It was very disappointing. “I’m glad I’m here now with good football people with good values, the right values, that are going to do things in the right manner. “That’s another good positive point. “But I left Rangers out the back door with a black bag over my shoulder and not a person at Murray Park. “I saw wee Jean and a few people in the kitchen and that was it. “It’s disappointing when you have known people as I had over a long time. “I had eight years of service spanning an 18-year spell. It was disappointing, but listen that was out of my hands.” Wallace was also shunned at Rangers merely for shining a light on the drop in standards under Murty. Even then he tried to work his way back into the side last season but Steven Gerrard refused to pick him despite the fact he was crying out for a left-back. Asked if Wallace was a victim, Miller added: “Of course he was. I don’t know how things went, but I don’t think many would have felt Lee Wallace wasn’t good enough to play for that team. “The thing is he is not one for looking back. He will be looking forward to this season now he’s signed for QPR. “It’s a new challenge for him after eight years at Rangers. “But he will be disappointed how it ended.” Wallace was given a great send-off from Rangers supporters at the end of last season, with punters also showing their appreciation for Miller when he returned with Dundee. But the striker added: “It was nice, but it doesn’t really make up for how it ended. “The fans have always been the fans — they’ve always been supportive not just of myself. “They supported the club through real tough times when there was a demotion to the bottom league. “I still remember turning up as a fan when there was 50,000 against Peterhead in Division Three. It was phenomenal. “The fans have always been supportive through all of this process — probably more so over the last few years because of what the club has been through. “So it was nice to receive that kind of reception that day.” It’s amazing to think that this time last year Miller was manager of Livi — only for his tenure as boss to come to a sudden halt, with No 2 Davie Martindale influencing a change and the subsequent appointment of Gary Holt. Miller added: “It was frustrating, in a lot of senses, with how it went at Livingston. “But everybody knows why we left, you don’t need to speculate on that. It was frustrating because of how it was actually going but, listen, that is all in the past.” Miller is now looking ahead as a Partick Thistle player with his winning mentality as strong as ever. For the 39-year-old, it’s what keeps him going. He added: “I do believe it is down to mentality. “You need to be strong to keep getting out of your bed every morning to come and do it. It doesn’t get any easier, but I want to do it. I still want to play, I still want to score as many goals as I can. “I am driven to go and win this league this season. There is absolutely no doubt that if you give up on it you are not going to be capable. “I could talk all day about it. I have spoken to many a younger player about it. I have spoken to older players about it and listened to what they have said as well. “For me, the minute you take a session off that is you on a slippery slope. You hear many a player saying, ‘Ah well, I need looking after, I need the Monday off’. “You need to go and pull the boots on and get out there training. I still train hard. I don’t take any time off. “When you start to accept that that’s the road you’re on, then you will go down the slippery slope.” Working with Gary Caldwell was one of the big attractions for Miller when Thistle made their pitch to snap him up after he quit Dundee. The striker added: “Gaz and I have talked about this for years and years — this isn’t something that’s just come about in the last two or three weeks. “We talked about this ten years ago, potentially working together on the other side. “I probably couldn’t have imagined I’d still be playing at this age but I’m here now to benefit his team on the training field every day and out on the pitch.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4433509/kenny-miller-rangers-exit-agony-back-door-bin-bag/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1562016709

Bullish Steven Davis is certain Rangers are 'on the verge of something special' He knows times have been tough for the club since their financial implosion back in 2012 but is convinced the good times are back. Steven Davis racked up eight trophies and a UEFA Cup Final appearance in a four-year stint before he left Rangers . Under Walter Smith, the midfielder helped himself to three league titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups between 2008 and 2012. Since he’s been gone, the club’s list of top honours hasn’t changed. The Northern Ireland star left for Southampton when Rangers went bust eight years ago and they’ve failed to land a major piece of silverware since. Given the level of success he’d enjoyed previously, Davis finds that drought hard to accept. But it’s one of the reasons why, when Steven Gerrard called him in January, he didn’t even need to speak to any other interested party. Davis got used to winning at Ibrox and wants that feeling back. He knows times have been tough for the club since their financial implosion back in 2012. But with Gerrard as manager he’s convinced that Gers are on the cusp of something special. And Davis’ experience tells him that when they lift that elusive first trophy more will follow. The club’s former captain, who signed a permanent one-year deal this summer, said: “It’s unbelievable for me to think it has been eight years since the club last won a trophy. “In my time here we were used to having success every season. “So it’s rare to have gone so long without one. But when we do pick up that first bit of silverware it will just be all the sweeter. “I’d like to think we’re on the verge of something special. The manager has brought in a lot of young players and you can see their energy. “It’s infectious for the rest of the squad. There’s good quality here so there’s a lot to be positive about. “It’s going to be another difficult season but we have to be confident that we can be successful. “Anybody who joins this club is coming to win trophies – that’s part of the appeal of Rangers. “Sometimes the first trophy can be the hardest one to get. “That’s why we all have to graft and make sure that we are ready for the start of the season. “Whatever you do in life, when you have a bit of success you want it again. And when you get that taste for it you also learn how to do it. “We have to believe now that we have the quality to be successful. But we also have to show the mentality.” If you accept that Kyle Lafferty’s second stint at the club is up then Rangersonly have two title winners in their squad, Davis himself and veteran keeper Allan McGregor. The playmaker says their influence on the young players could help Gerrard’s men land the big prizes. He will never forget how the likes of Davie Weir, Lee McCulloch and Barry Ferguson helped him when he first joined over a decade ago. And he’s adamant that Gerrard’s squad aren’t far away, given their excellent finish to the Premiership campaign last term. Davis said: “We definitely have the ability to do it. “Last year, we lacked consistency. The reason we didn’t win anything wasn’t because of other teams, it was because of ourselves really. “So we have to be positive going into this one and believe we can be successful. “In terms of myself and Allan McGregor, there is always a balance of experience and young players in a squad. “The manager has brought in boys who will have to adapt quickly to the demands of playing for Rangers. “They will see that straight away. Myself and Allan will try to help with that but there are others in the group who are good leaders as well. “When I was here first time around, people like Davie, Lee and Barry were all in and around the squad. “You need older heads around the younger boys and that’s the same now. “Last year we learned a lot. You’re not going to play well for a full season. There are games where you just have to find a way to win. “There were games we dominated but weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. At other times, we conceded silly goals at set-pieces. Those are the things we need to tighten up on to make sure we have success. “It would be huge for me to be part of a trophy-winning team here again. “That was the appeal for me coming back from Southampton. I was going through a tough spell and felt my time there was up. “The reason I wanted to come here was to win trophies again before I finished playing. “I didn’t even look at any other club, the deal was done early. “When I heard Rangers was an option, then it was simply the only one that I wanted to pursue. “I was disappointed that last season finished when it did because the team was playing good football and I was enjoying it. “Hopefully, we can build on those performances this season and go one better.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bullish-steven-davis-certain-rangers-17280810

MARCUS GAYLE insists Rangers new boy Joe Aribo can become a star in the English Premier League – IF he does what Steven Gerrard says. The midfielder joined the Ibrox side on a four-year deal after quitting Championship new boys Charlton. Addicks boss Lee Bowyer insisted it was the wrong move for the 22-year-old. He claimed Aribo wouldn’t be able to make the move to the English top-flight if he signed for Gers, and would have been better off joining Brentford. But former Light Blues ace Marcus Gayle - who managed Aribo at non-league club Staines Town in 2014 - reckons he can make the step up in years to come thanks to England legend Gerrard. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I can see within two or three years, he’ll play in the Premier League, no doubt. “He’s got that left foot, he goes past people, he’s creative and he’s a box-to-box player. “He’s got the opportunity to sharpen those skills and tools to further his dream of playing in the top-flight in England. “As a manager, you’re part of a player’s development, but at the same time, Lee Bowyer is employed by Charlton, he’s got to think and say the right things that suit Charlton. “Brentford is a brilliant club to sign for, so I agree with Lee on that, but at the same time, you’ve got a club the size of Glasgow Rangers wanting you with Steve Gerrard as the manager. “Under Steven, what he’ll learn is the mentality to win games, the intensity of training day in, day out, dedicating yourself even more than what he’s doing at the moment. “He’ll learn that under a Champions League winner. “Playing in front of 50,000 fans, not many people will do that as a player, but Joe will do that on a regular basis. “It’s the pressure of winning games, you have to win games at Glasgow Rangers, that’s a must.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4422677/joe-aribo-rangers-steven-gerrard-marcus-gayle/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1561730474

Joe Aribo capture proves Rangers are a huge draw insists Mark Allen as he provides transfer update Steven Gerrard has landed one of his top targets as the midfielder penned a four-year deal contract at Ibrox. Mark Allen says it’s a sign of Rangers’ pulling power that they got Joe Aribo ahead of a host of other clubs. The Ibrox director of football believes snatching the sought-after Charlton midfielder on a £300,000 deal is proof that Gers are now a big attraction for players in England. Allen has been delighted with their summer transfer activity so far but admits they won’t stop working to try and improve the squad until the window closes in August. After Aribo was announced, beating off competition from Premier League, Championship and Bundesliga sides, Allen said: “We’ve fought off a lot of competition for Joe. I don’t think it’s any secret that teams were interested. “But he felt that this was the right project for him. “We’re really satisfied with it and he was one of our targets from very early doors. “In terms of Rangers’ pulling power, the proof is in the pudding when a player like that signs on the dotted line. “We’re under no illusions about the level of this club. With the exposure, 50,000 fans every other week, this club is massive. “When you look under the skin and see what it’s all about, it becomes a much easier decision for players to make. “With us being back early for Europa League qualifiers, it was vital that we got our targets boxed off as quickly as we could and that has been the case. “There have been a lot of late nights and early mornings but we’ve been focused on where we’ve been trying to get to from the word go. “I’m pleased to say that it’s gone well so far. “How many more do we want? I’ve always said we’ll never say that we’re done until the window is closed. “We’re satisfied with what we’ve done to date – let’s just see what else happens.” Allen is with Gerrard and his staff at their pre-season training base in Portugal. But he’s still got a job to do back home, with the likes of Kyle Lafferty, Eros Grezda, Graham Dorrans, Jason Holt and Jordan Rossiter all surplus to requirements. The Welshman admits they’re working with those players and their representatives to sort out their futures. He said: “Every season here the bar gets raised and the manager will assess his squad in terms of what he believes he needs to take us to the next level. “Unfortunately, there are going to be people who fall out of that and our job now is to reconcile the best we can for us, the players and the club.” Allen is hopeful that with the business Gerrard has done so far, Rangers can enjoy a successful campaign domestically and in Europe. But he’s well aware that with the 39-year-old going into just his second season as a manager, there’s plenty of work still to be done. He said: “We approach every season wanting to do well and this is no different. “The attitude and conduct of the players here has been first class and the dedication at this camp in Portugal has been superb. “Whether that manifests itself into a successful season, we’ll have to wait and see. But we’re pleased with how everything is going. “We set ourselves some bars last season that we wanted to hit but there was a lot of change at the club in terms of personnel coming in. “It always takes time for people to settle and some do it better than others. “Overall, we’re pleased with the progress we’re making but we all know, ultimately, where we’re trying to get to.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/joe-aribo-capture-proves-rangers-17268032
