Allan McGregor will have to wait longer if he is to make a return to the Scotland set-up after Craig Levein decided against handing him a recall. The Rangers goalkeeper was set to be in the new Scotland manager’s first squad for the friendly against the Czech Republic at Hampden Park next month. But Levein made a dramatic U-turn last night after discovering the Ibrox shot-stopper was the victim of a city centre attack over the weekend. Instead, he will name Rangers back-up keeper Neil Alexander. SportTimes understands Levein held lengthy discussions with Rangers boss Walter Smith last night before coming to his decision. It’s believed both managers thought it would be in the best interests of the Scotland squad and McGregor if his return was postponed. However, the Scotland manager will turn to McGregor in the future providing he is fit and performing well for his club. Although he’ll understand the reasons for the decision, it will still come as a hammer blow to McGregor as he was desperate to return to the international fold. The controversial goalkeeper was informed he’d never represent his country again in the wake of the Boozegate affair when he was guilty of taking part in an all-night drinking session at Cameron House hotel. But Levein’s insistence on wiping the slate clean and having all his best players available for selection handed McGregor a reprieve. That, however, is now on hold and it remains to be seen whether or not the goalkeeper will be fit for this weekend’s Old Firm showdown with Celtic at Ibrox. McGregor suffered an eye injury in the attack, as well as a cut back, but it’s thought he could still be in line to start on Sunday. If not, Rangers will be forced to turn to Alexander, who has made just five appearances this season. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks-ignore/no-scots-return-for-bruised-allan-mcgregor-1.1008443

At the end of the day it should only be reported as an incident until all the facts are known,on the radio they are saying he was involved in a '' brawl '',you can be sure if it was a MOPE player it would be reported as a sectarian attack, fact.

A PAL of Rangers ace Allan McGregor told how the goalie was headbutted in the EYE in a fierce attack - saying: "It was vicious. His face is a mess." The Ibrox No1 was rushed to hospital after being ambushed in the street on a night out with soccer pals. At least two men pounced on the goalie after he left top footballers' haunt Karbon nightclub in the early hours of yesterday. He suffered injuries to his head and eye and back. It was at first feared he'd been SLASHED as there was so much blood. The pal said: "He was headbutted in the eye. It was a really vicious attack. His face is a mess. It is very swollen and bruised. "His eye is completely closed." Friends of McGregor, 28, are said to have found him lying battered in a city centre lane after he was beaten. A source said "It seems there was a lot of blood. "People were panicking and there was worry he might have been attacked with a blade. It turned out he picked up deep scratches on his back." Goalie McGregor underwent two rounds of X-rays over fears his eye socket was damaged. But he was recovering at home last night after medics at Glasgow's southern General gave him the all-clear. Speaking from his plush pad in the city, fianc©e Leah Shevlin, 26, said: "We're back home. Allan's not doing too well but we don't really want to talk about it." It's thought McGregor was in Karbon on Saturday night to celebrate the 21st birthday of Celtic starlet Cillian Sheridan, who is currently on loan at St Johnstone. It is unclear what sparked the violence, minutes after the stopper left. Blonde Leah was dining with friends nearby. Last night McGregor's dad Alex, 45, called for Rangers manager Walter Smith to BAN him from going out. Alex said: "He doesn't have the common sense to stop going himself." Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS confirmed McGregor was treated in hospital. Rangers said they were aware of an incident. Strathclyde Police were not involved. McGregor is still facing a probe and was interviewed by cops after a young mum alleged she was raped at a party last November. The goalie denies the claims. The Current Bun

It wasn't that long ago that Boyd was getting it tight from a lot of our fans, so I was just wondering how these fans feel now about him ?, serious question guys, has Boyds' game improved that much that he has changed a lot of opinions?, or is it simply because of the state of our club is in that he gets less stick ?. For the record I have always been a Boyd fan and I do think his game has improved.

Glad to hear it,we would miss his goals if he left,no doubt about that

Rangers have been linked with a move for French internationalist striker Jimmy Briand. It is believed Ibrox scouts have been spying on the Rennes star following his return from a knee injury which kept him out of action for 10 months. With the possibility of Kris Boyd leaving in the summer, boss Walter Smith has asked his scouts to scour Europe for a replacement, especially if they should land another £12m Champions League jackpot by retaining the title. If a new buyer comes in, the Rangers manager wants to be in a position to makes immediate moves for players. Briand, 24, who is also being monitored by Bordeaux and Marseille, had agreed to move to Paris St Germain before his injury while on international duty in March, but the transfer fell through when the clubs couldnât agree a fee. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks-ignore/rangers-on-trail-of-striker-1.1007814
