"In recent weeks Martin and other members of the staff have had very good discussions with the bank and that's exciting for all of us." Really Walter??, and tell us what they were??

It is good news that WS is staying on for another season, as for SA taking over I'm more concerned with this season tbh, I find myself saying that every season recently mind you:),true all the same. I'll think about SA taking over after this season

Thomson throws himself into too many daft challenges for my liking, however he has shown he could be a good player for Rangers. Edu I think has the potential to come good for us and has been hindered with injuries a bit, but I think if he can stay injury free he can/will be an important player for us. Davis on his game is a great player for us but has been on the whole inconsistent since he signed but had a great season for us last season,he needs to keep it up though next season.........if he's still here?.

I always thought Adam was as good as any of our midfielders, certainly wasn't our worst IMO. I disagree with Gribz post as there is no way he was '' awful for Gers '', he'd walk into our midfield right now,IMO

Breaking News on BBC Website. West Ham have sacked manager Gianfranco Zola after less than two years in charge at Upton Park. The former Chelsea player, who had no previous managerial experience at club level, took over from Alan Curbishley in September 2008. He signed a new four-year deal towards the end of his first term as West Ham finished ninth in the Premier League. But this season they struggled and ended the season in 17th place, only five points above the relegation zone. More to follow

Default Rangers to be in the black next season An all-black third kit will be released by the SPL champions along with a retro-style home top and a red and white striped away jersey. Rangers will sport an all-black third kit next campaign as part of a trio of new strips for the 2010/11 season. Pictures were leaked of the club’s home and away outfits on Sunday, which the ibrox side will wear as they seek to defend their SPL title. STV Sport understands the third choice jersey, which will be the first predominantly black top worn by the club in its history, will sport a v-neck design for the collar. It will also feature red and white flashes on the sleeves. The nearest the SPL champions have come to having a mainly black kit was in 2007/08. That season, the club’s third strip was a charcoal and black striped number with black shorts. Rangers haven’t confirmed either way whether the blue home top, with a retro white collar, will officially be their new kit. Fans should be able to purchase theirs, either with or without the logo of new sponsors Tennent’s, in June. The away jersey is a return to their red and white striped number from the 2003/04 season, with a red collar in the same style as the home top. The Rangers badge will be in blue, as will the shorts. Umbro will again manufacture the club’s kit with the home jersey made from the same “Tailored by…” material currently used in the home tops of the England national team and Manchester City. Both change tops are a switch from this season’s, which were a mainly red away top with blue flashes and an all-white third kit. Tennent's were confirmed as shirt sponsor for both Rangers and rivals Celtic in February for the next three seasons, taking over the joint sponsorship deal from Carling. More BS Frankie????

Walter Smith has revealed Danny Wilson is set to move away from Rangers this summer to further his career. Smith picked up the SFWA Manager of the Year award and Wilson the SFWA Young Player of the Year at a dinner in Glasgow last night. The veteran coach handed the 18-year-old centre-half his big chance in the Rangers first team this season and was delighted with how he coped in the SPL and Champions League. But the former Everton manager hinted the defender, who has been linked with Liverpool, is set to move down south. Weir said: “Danny has a great future in the game – it’s just unfortunate that it doesn’t look like it will be at Rangers.” Meanwhile, Kris Boyd is set to wait until the end of the summer before making a decision on his future. Boyd, who scored his 26th goal of the 2009/10 campaign in the 3-3 draw with Motherwell, wants to see if a new buyer takes control of the Ibrox club. He said: “I will make my mind up about what is happening over the next couple of weeks. “Whether there’s a bid for the club is a factor and, if something happens on that front, great. We’ll see what happens. “But I don’t need to dive into anything and can wait until the end of summer if need be. “Days like yesterday whet my appetite for staying at Rangers. There were 50,000 fans jumping around like madmen. I loved it.” Meanwhile, out-of-contract trio Nacho Novo, DaMarcus Beasley and Stevie Smith are all set to leave. Winger Beasley posted on Twitter that it was “time to open a new chapter” in his career. Smith has already confirmed that he would be leaving. And Novo revealed a lack of first-team starts was likely to lead to his departure. He stated: “I am 31 now and I said I would like to retire at Rangers, but I want to enjoy my football.” Walter Smith holds aloft the championship trophy

Nacho Novo: Waving goodbye to Rangers will be my worst day ever
ian1964 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Novo - Why I Said No To O'Neill. CELTIC legend Martin O'Neill grabbed me round the neck and growled: 'You'd better sign for us, wee man.' It was June 29, 2004, we were inside the home of Rangers' bitterest rivals. My career was at a crossroads, my head was spinning, my mind in a turmoil. For three weeks Rangers had been chasing me, now Celtic wanted to steal me from under their noses. The cameras flashed as I walked in the door at Parkhead but I was subdued. I never said much as we were taken on a tour of the trophy room and the stadium. In O'Neill's office we sat and talked football. My agent Jorge Leira was locked in conversation with Celtic's chief executive Peter Lawwell. I found O'Neill to be a good guy, the kind of manager who has presence the first time you meet him. As I got up to leave he playfully strangled me and told me I was in trouble if I didn't put pen to paper. It had all started with a phone call that turned my world upside down. The voice said: "Hi Nacho, it's Peter Lawwell here. We would like to talk to you about joining Celtic." You could have knocked me over with a feather. I said that I had to speak to my agent and hung up. Stunned. I'd clung on for weeks to my dream of leaving Dundee for Glasgow - but to sign for Rangers, not their arch-rivals. Now, as Rangers and Dundee failed to strike a deal, Peter Marr had agreed a fee with Celtic and I was free to talk to them. Look, it was flattering but I didn't want to wear the Hoops. I wanted a light blue jersey on my back. When Gers made their approach I told Peter it was the ONLY move I wanted. Dundee had signed me for £100,000 and now they wanted £500,000, not a bad return after the two decent years I had given the club. Rangers had money problems, though, the deal dragged on. Mental torture. There was even chat they'd wait until the following January, try to sign me on a pre-contract and then I would move on a Bosman. If that happened Dundee would get nothing and be left with an unhappy player for a season. Something had to give. Celtic knew Rangers were in for me big-time and the Old Firm love nothing more than getting one up on each other. If I'd signed for Celtic it would have been a major slap in the face for Rangers as the financial gap was only around £50,000 between what they'd offered and what Dundee wanted. We never talked about personal terms with Celtic or length of contract. I was very quiet and I think that was the reason they later said they would not be pursuing the deal, as I had not shown any enthusiasm. That was right. I didn't want to sign for Celtic. I was NEVER going to do it. The summer was hell, I could only see it from one side. I wanted Dundee to take the money from Rangers and let me go. I had to force the issue. I sat in the office at Dens Park, directly across from Peter Marr. The Dundee owner was a good man but as far as I was concerned he was the guy blocking my dream move. I shouted: "So you won't sell me to Rangers, fine. I will stay at Dundee. But I can tell you this. I won't play for you. Every day, my knee will be ******." Peter flew into a rage. What I was saying was out of order but I was thinking of anything I could to force Dundee's hand. I told him again there was no way I would play for Dundee. Peter screamed back at me: "You are refusing to play now? Well, there you go, you can get what you want. Go to Rangers." He stood up, leaned down and scribbled his signature on the paper that granted me permission to talk to Rangers. He shouted: "Now get out of my face." I left the scene. Jorge stayed inside to finalise things with Peter and I just shut my eyes and tried to get my breath back. I had just heard what I wanted. I could sign for Rangers. A week after those Celtic Park talks I swept through the gates of Murray Park. Inside Alex McLeish's voice boomed out: "It's taken a bit of time, wee man. But at last you're here!" I signed in a flash. I knew after saying no thanks to Celtic, the Gers fans would take to me. These were the issues I'd have to deal with but I was where I wanted to be - at Rangers.- 19 replies
