  3. Bid for Steven Davis Monday August 2,2010 By Scott Burns Have your say(0) EVERTON will make a Ã?£5million move for Rangers star Steven Davis – if they can cash in on Steven Pienaar or Mikel Arteta. Goodison Park boss David Moyes has identified the Northern Irish international as a top target if he loses either of his star men. The Ã?£8m-rated South African star Pienaar is the most likely to go as he is going into the last year of his contract and has refused to agree an extension. That has alerted the likes of Tottenham, Inter and Bayern Munich. Former Rangers man Arteta is in a similar boat and is being courted by big-spending Manchester City. Losing either would be a big blow to Moyes but he would turn to former Aston Villa and Fulham star Davis to fill the void. Walter Smith would be reluctant to lose his main playmaker but knows his hands may be tied due to the financial problems at the club. Danny Wilson and Kevin Thomson have already been sold, to Liverpool and Middlesbrough respectively, to raise summer funds at Ibrox. Smith and his squad get back from Australia this morning and he will check in with chief executive Martin Bain to see if there has been any progress on the signing front. Express Sport revealed last week that Rapid Vienna striker Nikica Jelavic was his top target. The SPL champions had their initial offer rejected but are awaiting news of their improved Ã?£2.5m bid. Vienna refused to comment on that offer last night but it has been claimed that Blackburn have also expressed an interest in the Croatian international. Honduran World Cup star Georgie Welcome believes he can replace Kris Boyd at Rangers. Currently with Motagua in his home country, he is desperate for a move to Europe and hopes to impress Smith during a week-long trial at Ibrox. That test will get underway later this week. Welcome, 25, said: “I’m going to do everything I can because I know it’s my chance. My goal is to stay in Glasgow.” Rangers have also shown interest in South African pair Katlego Mphela and Bongani Khumali and reports have linked them with Plymouth’s Roda Johnson. Dinamo Bucharest say Rangers have opened talks on a Ã?£500,000 swoop for Romanian international Cristian Pulhac. The 25-year-old, who can play left-back or left midfield, was on the verge of a move to Spanish side Getafe. Dinamo coach Iaon Andone said: “There have been discussions but I can’t say if anything has been completed.”
  4. MANCHESTER United's £18m star Anderson was dragged unconscious from a crashed car shortly before it exploded, it has been reported. The Brazilian midfielder spent several hours in hospital after the terrifying accident on a rural road in Portugal. Witnesses said he owed his life to being pulled "lifeless" from the £125,000 Audi R8 shortly before it exploded in the Geres area of Braga. According to local reports, Anderson, 22, spent the night at the Sardinha Biba nightclub before leaving in the Audi. It came off the road at 7am and hit the wall of a farm before landing in a field. Anderson reportedly had two companions - a friend, whose name was given only as Victor, and an unnamed young Brazilian woman. It is unclear who was driving. Manchester United were unavailable for comment tonight. All three were taken to hospital but discharged by late morning after being treated for concussion, whiplash and shock. "They had only minor injuries," a hospital spokesman said. The woman is understood to have needed the most treatment. 5. Aye,I know where you'recoming from brother, but me thinks the BHEASTS have spent money on the strength of selling him, and he's pish:)

  7. There's been a few nights when the hairs stood up on the back of my neck watching the Rangers, but the night wee Natcho scored that pen to take us to the final will live with me forever, surely not to be dismissed!!. Not tomention WS achievements the last two seasons, only he could have won these titles under the present circumstances,IMO.
  8. Baggies fail in Allan McGregor bid WEST BROM PUT OFF BY GERS' £6m PRICE TAG FOR KEEPER By Graeme Bryce, 01/08/2010 WEST BROM have failed in a bid to land Allan McGregor. The Baggies admitted defeat after Rangers slapped a £6m tag on their Scotland keeper. Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo offered a choice of FOUR first-team stars AND cash to get his man. Matteo wanted McGregor to battle it out with England goalie Scott Carson to be West Brom's No1, but had to turn his attention to Hull City's £1.5 million Welsh keeper Boaz Myhill when Gers refused to budge. Rangers have already lost a string of stars this summer, including Kris Boyd, Kevin Thomson, Nacho Novo, Steven Smith and Danny Wilson. West Brom's part-exchange list is believed to have included striker Luke Moore, defenders Gianni Zuiverloon and Abdoulaye Meite and a loan deal for New Zealand's teenage World Cup striker Chris Wood. McGregor's agent David Baldwin said: "It's something I wasn't aware of but it is always flattering for Allan to know he is held in such high regard. "But as ever, he remains 100 per cent focused for Rangers."
  9. MOYES EARMARKS DAVIS AS MIDFIELD OPTION Gers star could replace Pienaar DAVIS: Influential figure for Rangers By Greg Gobere, 31/07/2010 EVERTON have singled out Rangers midfielder Steven Davis as a replacement for Steven Pienaar if the South African leaves Goodison Park. Toffees boss David Moyes is still no closer to getting Pienaar, 28, to commit his future to the club. With one year now remaining on his current deal, Inter Milan and Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation and will be encouraged by the midfielder's stalling tactics. Moyes is loathe to losing a player who has been a revelation since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund three years ago, but past experience with key departures Joleon Lescott and Wayne Rooney have taught the Scot to adopt a pragmatic approach to the situation. SPFA Players' Player of the Year Davis, 25, has been earmarked by Moyes as the man to bring stability to his midfield should he lose Pienaar. The Northern Ireland international made 36 appearances for Rangers last season.
  10. RANGERS will only sign Rapid Vienna striker Nikica Jelavic if he remains eligible to play in the Champions League. The Croatian can still turn out in Rapid's Europa League qualifier against Beroe of Bulgaria this week. However if Rapid progress following their 1-1 draw in Bulgaria last week, Jelavic will be deemed cup-tied for the remainder of the season if he then plays in the following play-off round. That’s the key cut-off point. Major decision So Rapid has a major decision to make if they hope to do business with Rangers for their Ã?£3m-rated marksman. To date Jelavic is the only player Rangers are remotely close to signing. The Scottish Champions have dropped all interest in South African World Cup players Katlego Mphela and Bongani Khumalo. Gers also have no intention of pursuing St Etienne defender Yohan Benalouane. This may leave the way open for Celtic who have also been credited with interest. The Ibrox stance remains they are in no rush to be railroaded into signings they may regret given they don't enter the Champions League until September 14.

I want us to win back the league in style, and I want us to give the old European cage a right good rattling, get the name back on foreigners lips. We should be able to beat any team on a cup tie basis I know it's a very tall ask, but I dont think we should be wary of taking it on, one game at a time. We started off well last year in Moscow, I believe we have a better group of players now, and that they are better coached and inspired. tinsoldier 27 Jul 2010, 02:22 PM Post #101 Off treasure hunting in Holland Posts:13,450 Group:Snr. This will take place in the form of a weekly "Walters Rant" which will include complaints about his threadbare squad, the number of games he has to play, the transfer window, having to put young players on the bench, the club being skint/financial position being exaggerated and the fact you never see white dog shampooe anymore. Chuck in the fact there is a new upstart in the Celtic dugout who will have to be slapped down by officialdom on and off the park winning the league will be a great achievement in Neil Lennon's first season and a sweet one at that. A club can go out and spend money it doesn't have and can't repay to buy players good enough to win the league. We've been "punished" for running the club within its finances whilst the huns have spent other folks' money on players they couldn't really afford. However, they will reap the benefits soon enough.
  12. Grafenwalder 27 Jul 2010, 11:10 AM Post #1 Occasional Substitute Posts:421 Group:Members Member#25,457 Joined:3 February 2010 So we begin a new campaign with an untried and untested manager. His predecessor was arguably the worst manager in our history although most of us wish him well for the future. Our main opponents (in terms of trophies) appear to be in free-fall although I say this with some caution - they have only lost 2 or 3 meaningful domestic matches in the last 18 months. I think it would be a mistake to under-estimate them. Their manager is shrewd and tactically aware and they will always have officialdom and most of the media pulling for them. The volume of players leaving and arriving at Celtic is probably unprecedented in our history so it may be worth identifying outcomes by which the new regime should be judged. Would you, for example, say that winning one or both of the cups and getting closer to Rangers would represent a successful season? Would you say we need to be playing good, attacking football as well as winning? What are your expectations with regard to Europe? What would represent success and what would represent failure? I think we should make it clear, before the season begins, exactly what we would regard as acceptable in terms of outcomes to judge the performance of our new management team. For me, winning the SPL is a must. If we do this, I would define the season as a success. If we do not, I would say the management would have failed and should be replaced. The thought of Smith sailing off into the sunset after winning three in a row with a club effectively in administration, troubles me, to say the least. So, for me, this season is all about the SPL. Obviously a decent run in Europe and winning the cup competitions would be nice but I would say Lennon should not be judged on these. Even if we got pumped out of Europe, going on to win the SPL would make for a successful season in my opinion. Equally, losing the SPL (however close the league standings and however well we think we played) would be an unmitigated disaster and should result in him and those who appointed him being dismissed. I hope (and believe) that Lennon agrees this season is all about winning the League. I really don't care what brand of football we play, as long as we win. What do others think?
  13. CELTIC want to pinch French stopper Yohan Benalouane from under the noses of Rangers. SPL champions Gers have been linked with a £2million move to snap up the 23-year-old St Etienne defender. Celts have targeted the stopper after they lost out on Sol Campbell to Newcastle and St Etienne are set to agree to a season-long loan with a view to clinching a permanent deal. Benalouane is rated one of France's most promising defenders and has held summit talks with St Etienne's board. He has been promised he'll be allowed to leave if the French club can strike a deal they are happy with. Benalouane said: "An opportunity to join a club on that level would be impossible for me to reject. "I have decided to make the move from St Etienne and I will now wait to see what happens." The former France Under-21 cap has just one year left on his deal and St Etienne are ready to cash in him. Gers were contacted by an agent alerting them to Benalouane's availability but their interest has now cooled. Now Hoops gaffer Neil Lennon wants to land the stopper. Celts' problems in defence were highlighted in the 3-0 Champions League loss to Braga. Lennon also lost out on his No1 keeper target yesterday when David James joined Bristol City. He said: "We've got a good keeper in Lukasz Zaluska, but it's imperative we get another one in. "We lost a superb goalie in Artur Boruc so it's important we replace him." 14. WALTER SMITH insists he won't rush into buying new players for Rangers. The Ibrox boss has yet to make a summer signing with less than two weeks to go before the season starts. Stars Kris Boyd, Kevin Thomson, Nacho Novo and Danny Wilson have all gone while rivals Celtic have totally rebuilt their squad. Smith has promised Gers fans he's working hard behind the scenes to get three players in. Rapid Vienna star Nikica Jelavic is now top of his list but Smith insists he won't rush in. He said: "I can confirm that we have an interest in Jelavic and talks are ongoing, but negotiations are going a bit slower than we would have hoped. "With regards others I'm not just going to dive in and take people for the sake of taking them. "The club, on a previous occasion when they were cutting back, did that. I'm not going to do it again. "We know we have to get players in but I'm hopeful that we can rectify that. We're not going to have the money for a huge spend but we'll get two or three players, hopefully, signed before the season. "We've still got a month of the transfer window left. That's a factor in how we are operating. "We were after Chris Eagles because I thought he'd bring something to the team. That is crucial to anything we do." 15. The Portsmouth striker John Utaka says that he is attracting interest from Bolton, Sunderland and Fulham as well as the Bundesliga as his departure from the south coast club draws closer. Utaka, 28, moved to Fratton Park three years ago for a Ã?£7million fee from French side Rennes, and financially stricken Pompey will be hoping to recoup some of that fee with the sale of the Nigerian international. Utaka moved to the Premier League with a high reputation, however, his goal scoring record is far from convincing; the striker has scored just seven Premier League goals in his three years at the club. Despite his lack of goals, the reported interest from the Premier League clubs has come as a welcome step for Utaka who also claims to have received offers from the Bundersliga. “My manager is looking into the offers before him,” Utaka said. “We have had Sunderland, Fulham and Bolton and some clubs in Germany, Everything is in the air. “I would like to stay in the Premier League. It is quick, aggressive and direct and there are loads of goals every week. And, yes, the money in England is also good.” http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/07/27/2043583/portsmouths-john-utaka-keen-to-stay-in-the-premier-league
  16. JOHN FLECK has told how Nacho Novo handed him a surprise leaving present when he quit Rangers last month. His No10 jersey. Fleck, 18, has worn No29 since breaking into the Ibrox first team. But Novo was desperate for him to have his prized shirt when he left Scotland for Sporting Gijon. Fleck said: "I didn't ask for the number. I didn't go and knock on anyone's door. "Nacho told the kit man he wanted me to have it. I wanted it and I'm happy to have it. "I've always worn ten in the youth team, all the way up, so it's great for me to have it now Nacho's away. "It was a great thing for him to do. "Hopefully I can keep it. I don't think it will put extra pressure on me, wearing that jersey. I am willing to stand up and fill it, but it's just a number at the end of the day. "It wouldn't matter if I had 50 on my back, I'd still give everything. "I haven't set a target for number of games, just more than last year. "I feel a lot fitter and stronger, so hopefully that will help." Fleck has been the next big thing at Rangers for a couple of years now. What people forget is that he's still only a teenager - he doesn't turn 19 until next month. The attacker said: "I've been about for the last couple of seasons and I should've done more than I have. "But I don't think anything stopped me. "The manager just knew what he was doing with me, when to play me and when to leave me out. "I've got to accept he made the right decisions for me. "It's obviously hard when you do well and then have a dip. "There's been a lot of expectation around me since before I even made the first team. But I just let it all wash over me. "To be honest, I think people sometimes expect too much of me. Maybe they do forget how young I am, because I've come into the first team at a young age. "I've obviously done well enough to get my chance. I have to take it. "This season is not any more important than any other one for me." This time last year Fleck was dropped from the top side - a harsh reminder to the youngster that he needed to buck up his ideas. He added: "It was bad at the time, but I can see now it stood me in good stead. "Obviously a few things like that happened last term. But we've put it past us and it's all good now. It was tough to be left out, difficult to go back to the reserves when you've been with the first team. "The boss took me aside and spoke to me quietly when he dropped me "There was nothing harsh, just a quiet word and that was it. Obviously he's the best man to make these decisions and explain them. "It's hard to keep your focus when you break into the side. "That's what the manager is there for, to keep you in or take you out when he feels it's the right time, whether you feel you're playing well or not." Fleck is with the same agency as Danny Wilson, who this month quit Gers and agreed a £5million move to Liverpool. There was a time when it seemed Fleck also wanted out of Ibrox. But he nailed his colours to the mast by signing a new deal. Fleck added: "I'm really happy to play here. I've signed my contract and I'm happy with that. "Danny's left and he feels that's best for him. Good on him, good luck to him. "But for me, I'm a Gers fan and I'd rather stay here and try to get a game. "All the boys are doing well. I'm saying they're boys, but they're all older than me, guys like Jordan McMillan and Andy Little. "They're all doing great and hopefully they'll get their chance, same as me."
