  9. Eidur Gudjohnsen could be set to join Rangers from French club Monaco. Reports in France on Saturday morning claim representatives from the SPL champions are currently in the principality holding talks with the Ligue 1 club. Gudjohnsen spent the second half of the 2009/10 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, after struggling to make an impact with the Rouge et Blanc. The Icelandic forward only moved to the French league from Barcelona one year ago. Radio station RMC, which broadcasts in Monte Carlo, say the out-of-favour player is close to agreeing a move to Scotland, becoming Walter Smith's first signing ahead of the new season. Whether the SPL side would take the 31-year-old on loan or on a permanent basis remains to be seen. Following the purchase of Standard Liege striker Dieumerci Mbokani last week, Monaco boss Guy Lacombe is believed to be keen to move Gudjohnsen on. His availability appears to have alerted Rangers, who are currently pursuing a number of options to bolster their thin squad. Highly regarded in world football, Gudjohnsen began his career with Valur Reykjavik, before a two-year spell at Dutch club PSV. He returned to Iceland at the age of 19 for a short time with KR, before Bolton Wanderers came calling in 1998. Impressive after a slow start with the Trotters, Gianluca Vialli came calling in 2000 to take the player to Chelsea, where he made over 200 appearances and scored 80 times. His form alerted Barcelona in 2006, who spent over 12 million Euros on the player to replace Henrik Larsson. His Barca career had looked like being short lived, with then-boss Frank Rijkaard coming close to selling him back to England after one season. But a number of polished displays, in which he also showed his ability as a midfielder and as a wide player, prolonged his career at Camp Nou well into the Pep Guardiola era. The purchase of Gudjohnsen would be seen as something of a coup for the Scottish club, who have failed to replace any of six departing players this summer to date. Kris Boyd and Nacho Novo left a gap in Smith's forward line, which the Gers boss has been working to plug in recent weeks. Negotiations are continuing with Rapid Vienna over the purchase of striker Nikica Jelavic, after Martin Bain returned home from a trip to Austria on Thursady having failed to convince the club to accept a £3.5 million offer. Honduran striker Georgie Welcome is currently on trial at Murray Park, trying to win a move from Motagua. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/rangers/190535-rangers-in-talks-with-eidur-gudjohnsen/

  14. Nobody is perfect, not even Sir Walter, but without him returning to Rangers I dread to think what state we would be in right now, nobody could have got the results/success he has achieved since his return and I for one am thankful that he returned when he did. He has his faults, no doubt about it,but he is a winner and has brought success to the club against all odds especially on his return.I also think the misused phrase '' boring football '' is wrong and false,Rangers have played a lot of excellent football over the last couple of seasons but that seems to have been forgotten by his detractors and IMO is laughable. He WILL be missed when he finally quits, of that I'm sure, and maybe only after he has gone will some fans really appreciate his achievements,as is always the case with great players/managers,and I only hope Ally has learned from the master of success or he will soon face the wrath of the Rangers fans if he hasn't. Come on Walter, finish your last season on a high by WINNING another title as you can only do, and if you don't win the title I will still be greatfull for what you have done for the Rangers. We welcome the chase.

  20. You can only piss with the c**k you've got!!,an organised hard working team can achieve an awful lot, as Rangers proved by getting to the UEFA CUP FINAL, and it takes a lot of hard work and organising to be good at not getting beat:).................anti football YER ARSE:whistle:
  21. Not good, for the lad or Rangers. What happened to the initial 2-3 weeks rangers?????
  22. Greedy wee tattie faced chunt, move for the money eh?,although the mHedia will say it's for footballing reasons!!!
  23. Rapid Vienna will not make a decision on the future of Rangers target Nikica Jelavic today. The 24-year-old Croatia international striker, who scored twice in Tuesday's 3-0 Europa League qualifying win over Bulgarian side Beroe, is subject of a bid of £2million from the Ibrox outfit. The Austrian club are believed to be looking for around double that fee but Rangers will have to wait another 24 hours to see if a deal can be struck. 'There will be no outcome today as our sporting director will not be back until tomorrow,' a Rapid spokesman told BBC Scotland. 'This will be discussed at a board meeting tomorrow morning.' Rangers may have to wait until after the Europa League play-off round if they are to land their man. The games are scheduled for 19 and 26 August, a few days before the transfer window closes, and Rapid may want to keep the player at least until then. Jelavic, however, has declared he wants to move to Ibrox. He was quoted in the Daily Record as saying: 'I am very happy because I scored two goals to help Rapid eliminate Zagora. However, at the same time I am ready to take on a new challenge. 'I'm keeping my fingers crossed the move materialises. I have always dreamed of playing in Britain and this is my big chance. 'I hope Rapid will grant me this favour in return for my goals and my endless fight for the club.' Rangers manager Walter Smith is also looking at Honduras striker Georgie Welcome on trial this week.
  24. AIDEN McGeady was yesterday shown around Spartak Moscow with its Soviet-era training base as the Russian club defied its own fans to woo a player now expected to sign a contract in a near-Ã?£10 million deal tomorrow. But the Celtic winger is facing a backlash with Moscow fans already dubbing him 'McGreedski' for his Ã?£40,000 a week pay demand, far in excess of the clubs established stars. "McGeady is in Moscow; we are showing him everything," said a source. "Contract negotiations are still in a process, but we are very close to getting his signature." The club imposed a media blackout as the 24-year-old was believed to have seen the spartan training camp with three pitches an hour and a half outside Moscow. He was told he will have the constant attention of an interpreter and driver to ensure he can cope with language problems and find his way around a city that yesterday remained shrouded in smog caused by forest fires. If he comes to Moscow he will have to get used to the cold ââ?¬â?? but yesterday he had a baptism of heat with temperatures of 39C. If he signs in Moscow it will be to a club languishing eighth in the table at the halfway point of the season and 19 points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg. With limits on foreign players in the Russian league, Spartak fans are askance at the club's obsession with McGeady and manager Valery Karpin is facing a backlash over the move. Supporters leader Ivan Katanaev said: "Who the hell is McGeady? He didn't play anywhere, except for Celtic, so why we are praying he joins our Spartak? He doesn't deserve this honour." Fellow Spartak fan Kostya Hlebnikov, 24, said: "He should be called 'McGreedski' not McGeady for permanently asking more money from the club. He is interested only in money." http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Spartak-fans-against-10m-move.6457812.jp?:)
  25. Aye, I hope Tattie face doesn't sign for the Russians:)
