CELTIC are to hold a minute's applause before Saturday's SPL visit of Hearts to mark the 25th anniversary of Jock Stein's death. The legendary manager, who won 10 league titles with Celtic and led them to European Cup glory in 1967, died on September 10, 1985, after suffering a heart attack at Ninian Park, Cardiff during Scotland's World Cup qualifier with Wales. Flags will also fly at half-mast on Friday at Celtic Park, the day of the 25th anniversary. This should be interesting!!!!

Wayne *Rooney paid for *secret hotel sex sessions with a Ã?£1,000-a-night prostitute while his wife Coleen was pregnant with their son, the Sunday Mirror can *sensationally reveal. The Ã?£100,000-a-week Manchester United and England icon slept with brunette Jennifer Thompson, 21, seven times over four months. And, astonishingly, he even flaunted her on a string of dates to VIP haunts in *Manchester, including bars, clubs and the cityââ?¬â?¢s 235 Casino. Last night a humiliated Rooney was confessing his disgrace to *childhood sweetheart Coleen, who took him back in 2004 after the Sunday Mirror twice exposed him for cheating on her with prostitutes. Rooney now expects betrayed Coleen to throw him out of their Ã?£5million mansion in Cheshire and begin moves for an *explosive divorce. He told a pal *yesterday: ââ?¬Å?My life is in ruinsââ?¬Â¦Iââ?¬â?¢ve been so stupid. Coleen wonââ?¬â?¢t forgive me this time. She will leave me.ââ?¬Â As with the downfall of philandering golf legend Tiger Woods, Rooney fully anticipates losing sponsorship deals worth Ã?£6million a year which depend on him *maintaining his family man reputation. Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, escort girl *Jennifer said of multi-millionaire *Rooney: ââ?¬Å?He sent me SIM cards full of text *messages and spoke to me on Skype using a false name. Whenever we met for sex, it was always in the same hotel.ââ?¬Â It is understood that Rooney, 24, booked Jennifer from an online agency in Manchester which promises its clients ââ?¬Å?ultimate discretionââ?¬Â after she was recommended to him by a pal. Their first meeting was in July last year at the Ã?£300-a-night Lowry Hotel in Salford when devoted Coleen was five months pregnant with their son Kai. Well-spoken Jennifer ââ?¬â?? whose middle-class parents live in a Ã?£300,000 detached home in a leafy suburb of Bolton ââ?¬â?? *provided Rooney with ââ?¬Å?anything goesââ?¬Â sex. After two two-hour romps with him at the Lowry a week apart from each other, she was dropped by her agency when she took bookings from him direct in order for her to avoid paying *commission. The sex sessions then *developed into longer, more intimate ââ?¬Å?datesââ?¬Â, often lasting five or six hours during which time he would arrange for room service to deliver dinner and champagne at the five-star Lowry. On each occasion, he paid her Ã?£1,000 in cash for her company. A friend of Jenniferââ?¬â?¢s said last night: ââ?¬Å?She couldnââ?¬â?¢t believe it the first time he booked her. He used a different name so she didnââ?¬â?¢t know who he really was until she knocked on the hotel room door and he opened it. ââ?¬Å?She wasnââ?¬â?¢t star-struck. She considers what she does to be a profession and she always strives to be very good at it. ââ?¬Å?But she got into trouble with her agency when they found out she was by-passing them and taking bookings from him direct on her own mobile phone and over the internet using Skype. ââ?¬Å?After heââ?¬â?¢d had sex with her the first few times, he changed his *attitude towards her. He said it was no longer just about an hour or two of sex but that heââ?¬â?¢d grown genuinely fond of her. But he carried on paying her *whenever they met. It went on for four months.ââ?¬Â Their last meeting was in October. On November 2, Coleen gave birth to Kai. The source said: ââ?¬Å?He suddenly stopped calling Jennifer in October, although she has seen him out in bars and clubs in Manchester since. When that happens, she makes sure she stays well away from him to avoid any awkwardness.ââ?¬Â The source went on: ââ?¬Å?Sheââ?¬â?¢s a well-to-do young woman and has had a good *education. Youââ?¬â?¢ve only got to look at her to see why Wayne liked her so much. ââ?¬Å?She loves the high-life and leads a hectic life of parties, holidays and nights out. She works hard for six months, earns lots of money and then goes to Spain for a few months to party with friends she has over there. ââ?¬Å?When sheââ?¬â?¢s run out of money, she comes home and starts escorting again. Sheââ?¬â?¢s young but very confident and sure of herself. ââ?¬Å?In the past, sheââ?¬â?¢s told friends that she would love to be a real WAG. She knows that it all coming out will devastate Wayne. She says she feels sorry for Coleen but that at the same time, Wayne must have known the risks of one day being found out. On a few of their dates, he actually took her out on his arm to bars and a casino. ââ?¬Å?He must have been on some kind of self-destruct trip. It must have been obvious to him that people would spot him and see that she wasnââ?¬â?¢t Coleen but he didnââ?¬â?¢t seem to care.ââ?¬Â Rooney and Coleen, 24, met while they were at secondary school in Liverpool. In July 2004 the Sunday Mirror revealed how he had paid Ã?£140 to romp with prostitute Charlotte Glover, then 21, before leaving her with a signed autograph as a souvenir. Then, a month later, the Sunday Mirror *revealed how he had sex with prostitute Gina McCarrick, 37 at a Ã?£45-a-time brothel in *Liverpool, which he visited 10 times and where he was caught on CCTV. He also had sex there with a 48-year-old grandmother known as ââ?¬Å?Auld Slapperââ?¬Â, who wore a rubber catsuit. A humbled Rooney later issued a grovelling apology, saying: ââ?¬Å?Foolish as it now seems I did on occasions visit massage parlours and *prostitutes. I now regret it deeply and hope people may understand that it was the sort of mistake you make when you are young and stupid. It was at a time when I was very young and *immature.ââ?¬Â In her autobiography, Coleen later revealed that she forgave Rooney because when he had sex with the three prostitutes ââ?¬â?? in 2002 ââ?¬â?? she and he had not yet slept together or formally settled down together. She wrote: ââ?¬Å?The truth is, and Iââ?¬â?¢ve never said this before, at that time in our relationship Iââ?¬â?¢d never even slept with Wayne. ââ?¬Å?I was only 16 and we werenââ?¬â?¢t having that kind of relationship at that stage. We used to meet at the chippy or the cinema.ââ?¬Â After his double vice disgrace, Rooney gradually rebuilt his reputation, allowing him to garner massively lucrative sponsorships. And he slowly re-established trust with Coleen. Rooney and Coleen married in June 2008 in a lavish ceremony in a converted monastery near Genoa on the Italian *Riviera. A beaming Coleen wore a Ã?£200,000 white Marchesa wedding gown and pearls while Rooney sported an open-necked shirt for the ceremony at the abbey of La *Cervara. In May this year, just before *Englandââ?¬â?¢s World Cup disaster, he insisted being a *father had changed his life. ââ?¬Å?Becoming a dad means you have to be a role model for your son and be someone he can look up to,ââ?¬Â he said. ââ?¬Å?Now I have someone to look after and I just want to be with Kai and Coleen as much as possible. I donââ?¬â?¢t go clubbing very much any more, maybe only a couple of times a year. Iââ?¬â?¢m now in bed by 10.30pm.ââ?¬Â And he publicly acknowledged the onus on him to behave responsibly, *saying: ââ?¬Å?The lifestyle I lead as a *footballer means I am always in the spotlight.ââ?¬Â Rooney, who played for England on Friday night in the 4-0 victory over Bulgaria, was due to travel to Switzerland tomorrow for Englandââ?¬â?¢s next European Championship qualifier in Basel on Tuesday. But it was unclear last night whether he would remain with the squad amid the crisis now erupting in his marriage. I think Levein should have made a few changes at half time,it was quite clear that we were better than them and actually spent most of the first half in their half but we lacked in the final 3rd,if he had brought Mcfadden on earlier along with Boyd he might/could have won the game IMO.

WHEN even such a clever man as Alistair Darling admits to being hoodwinked by them, then you know just what they are. Bankers! But there is something about one particular banker which perplexes me. Why is the man responsible at board level for the activites of Lloyds Bank in Scotland so seemingly reticent? And why is the nation's media so shy about telling us the life story of Archibald Gerard Kane, the banker who can call the shots over the debt owed to his bank by Rangers? After all Archie, as he's known in that ''bible'' of the famous, Who's Who, or Archibald on the Lloyds website, is a classic rags to riches story. The sort of' '' lad of pairts'' tale usually so beloved by our newspapers and broadcasting organizations. And, given his relationship with that other great Scottish institution, Rangers, I find it hard to comprehend just what is going on. On numerous occasions I have mentioned this to a number of senior people in journalism, and none of them has been able to give me an answer for the silence. So, for their benefit, and for the information of those interested in such stories, here is what I know about Archie Gerard Kane, as his entry in Who's Who calls him. Kane, it tells us, was born in the 16th June, 1952, and his parents were Archie and Rose . He was, by his own admission, from a poor background. In an interview with Alasdair Northrop in the serious and respected Insider Magazine on June 11th this year, Kane reveals how, for the first six years of his life he and his parents shared one room in an aunt's house in Hamilton. Clearly he still feels an affinity with Lanarkshire as his public address is listed as being Bellshill. Those humble origins were nothing out of the ordinary in those days, as I grew up with my mum and dad in a room and kitchen in a Maryhill tenement in the 50s and 60s until I was 12 and we moved next door to a two room and kitchen. Therefore I understand his comment about those years of: ''When you are young you don't think much about it.'' Quite right! In the interview he went on to praise mother, Rose, as the driving force in his life, adding:''My mother encouraged me school-wise, and to go to university. My dad did everything from being a bus driver, to a wages clerk on a construction site and was well read and knowledgeable about politics and history.'' For the rest, the interview , as you would expect given the nature of the Insider Magazine, is as dry as dust, concentrating on the world of high finance and banking. Certainly Kane is a man well qualified to talk about such subjects, despite having no banking qualifications, having studied accountancy at Glasgow University, emerging with a BAacc. For, as well as being the executive director on the Lloyds Board, responsible for Scotland, Kane has 41 different relationships with his fellow board members in nine different organizations across six different industries. Who could possibly argue against such a busy bee being worth the few quid short of £1.5M he trousered last year from a bank which was rescued by the taxpayers? As I said, a classic rags to riches story, the sort usually documented in minute detail in newspapers and on radio and television in Scotland. Yet, despite extensive research, there appears to be nothing known about Kane since he and his mum and dad moved out his aunt's house when he was six in 1958, until he graduated from Glasgow University, probably some time around 1972-ish. Maybe some of his old school pals or fellow undergraduates, who sunk of a few pints with him in the Men's Union can fill us in. Somebody must remember him. Strangely there are no newspaper reports of this local boy made good returning to his primary school in Hamilton as the guest of honour on prizegiving day. Nor the hint of him addressing the present day pupils at whatever secondary school where he studied so hard, encouraged by mother, Rose, to win a place at Glasgow University. In fact Who's Who is as much in the dark about this period in the life of the man who holds sway over Rangers, and who works for a taxpayers' funded organization, as I am. Prime minister David Cameron lists his school as we all know, as Eton, and Gordon Brown tell us he went to Kirkcaldy High School. Tony Blair even goes so far as to list Durham Choisters School before he went to Fettes, while Nick Clegg is a product of Westminster School. Good grief, even shamed Fred the Shred - Sir Fred Goodwin, - owns up to having gone to Paisley Grammar School. Of course perhaps Kane is ashamed of his humble origins. After all, Edinburgh is Scotland's banking centre, and when the folk there ask what school you went to, they are trying to uncover your social status, revealed by whether or not you attended a fee paying school. If that's the case then shame on you Archie Gerard Kane ,though I find that hard to believe of a man who, despite having come a long way has still admirably kept his Lanarkshire roots. I know a wee bit about Lanarkshire, as my dad, Andrew was born and bred in Coatbridge, before having the great good sense to marry a Maryhill lassie and move there. So I know only too well the obsession of Lanarkshire's young men with sport in general and football in particular. Which is why I find it strange that in Who's Who, Kane lists his hobbies as golf, tennis and ski-ing. Hardly tastes he would have cultivated growing up in Lanarkshire in the 1950s and 60s. But then again, as former Chancellor Alistair Darling has admitted, they are slippery customers. Bankers! http://davidleggat-leggoland.blogspot.com/

Twelve rioting football hooligans who took part in what a judge said was the worst destruction Manchester had seen "since the Blitz" have been sentenced. Hundreds of Rangers fans caused "mayhem" as the Uefa Cup Final was played in the city two years ago. Two police officers were caught and attacked, Manchester Crown Court heard. Nine men were jailed, two were sent to young offenders' institutions, and another man was given a suspended sentence and community service. An estimated 125,000 Rangers fans descended on the city for the game against Zenit St Petersburg in May 2008. Stamped on Trouble erupted in a fan zone after a giant screen in the city centre failed. Judge Blake said: "The riot police were deployed in full riot gear and struggled to contain the trouble and restore order. Scott McSeveney (L) and Mark Stoddart ® Scott McSeveney (L) and Mark Stoddart ® both attacked police officers "What followed was the worst night of violence and destruction suffered by Manchester city centre since the Blitz. "What came afterwards, the damage, the filth and litter was apparent to all who arrived in Manchester the following day. He said "many more" than the 12 defendants were involved. The two officers who were assaulted were Pc Mick Regan and Pc John Goodwin. Pc Goodwin was separated from his detachment, outnumbered by dozens of fans and stamped and kicked on. He said later he thought he was going to die at the hands of the mob. 'Letting team down' He was only saved after a Rangers fan, Sharon Gibson, lay across him and her boyfriend shouted: "You are letting the team down!" She was awarded Ã?£200 by Judge Blake, who thanked her and paid tribute to her "enormous courage". Scott McSeveney, 22, of Shotts, Lanarkshire, was jailed for three-and-a-half years for violent disorder and the assault on Pc John Goodwin and given an eight-year football banning order. Mark Stoddart, 27, of Westmuir Street, Glasgow, was jailed for two-and-a-half years for violent disorder and assaulting Pc Regan. He was also given an eight-year football banning order. They were: * John Saunders, 32, from Fullarton Road, Cumbernauld, Glasgow, who was jailed for 15 months * Gordon Forrest, 36, from Ledi Drive, Bearsden, Glasgow, who was jailed for 14 months * Thomas Murphy, 28, of Flatterton Road, Greenock, Renfrewshire, who was jailed for 14 months * Greg McKenna, 23, of Falkland Drive, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, who was jailed for 18 months * David McCullough, 21, of Moorcroft Drive, Manchester, was jailed for six months * Michael Hindle, 22, from Westmorland Close, Leyland, Lancashire, was jailed for eight months * James Bell, 43, of Corrie View, Cumbernauld, Glasgow, who was sent to prison for 12 months All seven were given six-year banning orders. Two others - Brian McVicar, 20, of Falkland Drive, East Kilbride, and William McSporran, 18, of Craighouse Street, Glasgow - were sent to a young offenders' institution for 21 and 12 months respectively. They were also given six-year banning orders. David Annette, 35, of Yarrow Road, Chorley, Lancashire, was given a six-month sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to do 180 hours' community service. He must also pay Ã?£500 costs. Yip, I meant to say we were the better team out of the two
-
Broon9 was shite, but Fletcher was worse IMO. The rest of the team played well I thought without getting that vital goal, the ref allowed they chunts off with murder, there must have been about 4-5 players who gave away 4-5 blatant fouls, the ref really should have been more strict, but all in all I think this result will come back to haunt us

A court in Manchester has heard details of the violence which marred the Ibrox sideâs Uefa Cup final in 2008. A court has heard how a "celebration of football" ended in mayhem and violence as Rangers hooligans went on the rampage. Manchester Crown Court heard how riot police fought hand-to-hand running battles with hundreds of drunken fans of the Glasgow club, who showered officers with bottles and other missiles. The violence was captured on CCTV footage and shown to the court on Thursday as 12 men sat in the dock awaiting sentence for their part in the trouble in the city as it hosted the Uefa Cup Final in May 2008. A number of defendants had brought bags and suitcases, piled up at the back of the dock, expecting to be going to jail. All will now be sentenced tomorrow. They were arrested after police publicised CCTV footage of the hours of violence during and after the Scottish club's 2-0 defeat to Zenit St Petersburg at the City of Manchester Stadium. An estimated 150,000 Rangers fans, most without tickets, descended on the city - drinking pubs and supermarkets dry. The court heard that trouble erupted at a fan zone after a giant screen in Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre failed close to kick-off time. Ricky Holland, prosecuting, said the game was prestigious and intended to be a "celebration of football". He said: "The vast majority were well behaved, there are numerous instances, discernable from the footage and statements from police officers of other Glasgow Rangers supporters trying to curb the disorderly behaviour of other people, caught up in this. So by no means was everyone who came to Manchester that day intent on committing mayhem, but that was ultimately what the city was subjected to." Mr Holland said three fan zones with giant screens were set up by Manchester City Council to accommodate ticketless fans who swamped the city from early in the morning of the match. He added: "There was copious amounts of drink already taken, large amounts, a number of public houses simply ran out of alcohol, supermarkets and the like managed to sell all their wares." But when the big screen in Piccadilly Gardens failed trouble erupted among the 8000 fans assembled there. Engineers attempting to fix the problem were pelted with bottles, causing £300,000 damage to the screen. Mr Holland added: "Various disgruntled supporters began to vent their frustration on property and police." He told the court riot police had never encountered scenes of such "ferocity and intensity", adding: "It is difficult to recall anything on the scale of what took place here." Police later trawled through hours of CCTV footage to identify the culprits, leading to the arrest of the 12 in the dock. In the dock The court then dealt with individual defendants, starting with Englishman Michael Hindle, showing film clips of each one's involvement in the trouble. Hindle, 22, from Westmorland Close, Leyland, Lancashire, was seen throwing a bottle at police. A Blackburn Rovers fan, he was classed as a "risk supporter" by local police and has served a ban for shouting abuse at rival fans while following the Lancashire team. Other fans in the dock included Gordon Forrest, 36, from Ledi Drive, Bearsden. He was seen taking part in running battles with police, kicking and pushing the riot shield of one officer and inciting others as hooligans swarmed around a police van to attack the vehicle. Forrest already has a number of previous convictions including two assaults, one on a police officer and breach of the peace. He has pleaded guilty to violent disorder and told police after arrest he had "no recollection" of the entire day as he had drunk 24 bottles of lager at the time. Thomas Murphy, 28, of Flatterton Road, Greenock, was seen on three separate occasions hurling bottles at police. Murphy, who admitted violent disorder, has a string of convictions including for assaulting police officers, assault, carrying an offensive weapon, breach of the peace and an unspecified football-related conviction. Seven days after the trouble in Manchester he was sentenced in Scotland for breach of the peace and assault on an unrelated matter. John Saunders, 32, from Fullarton Road, Cumbernauld was seen draped in the Union flag attacking a police van and throwing a bottle at heavily outnumbered officers surrounded by hooligans. He has admitted violent disorder. He has previous convictions for domestic abuse and is currently serving a five-month jail term for possession of an offensive weapon. All the other defendants face charges of either violent disorder or assaulting a police officer. The other defendants also to be dealt with are: Mark Stoddart, 26, of Westmuir Street, Glasgow, who pleaded guilty to section 47 assault and two offences of violent disorder.
