Sources: Rangers set to make £80m+ announcement
Rangers are set to announce club-record revenues of £80million-plus in their next set of financial results, Football Insider understands.
The Glasgow giants are well on course to smash their 15-year record of £64.5m from the 2007-08 campaign.
Rangers’ financial triumph is mainly due to the prize money from their remarkable Europa League run to the final last term, as well as the supplementary commercial and match day cash hikes.
Analysis from Football Insider has found that revenues are in line to soar upwards of the £80m mark for the 2021-22 campaign.
In the context of the club’s modern history, that would be a huge spike.
Rangers posted a £47.7m turnover in November last year in their last set of financial results for the period covering the 2020-21 Covid-hit season.
That was nearly £12m down on the £59m generated in 2019-20 when they reached the Europa League last-16.
The Scottish club landed nearly £20m in prize money from their European exploits last season.
Commercial director James Bisgrove told the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast in January that he also expects the club to rake in £27.9m from sponsorship and merchandise.
The Europa League has proved very lucrative during the last five seasons and been critical to the club’s balance sheet as well as their ability to attract new players.
The return last season of bumper crowds at 50,000-capacity Ibrox means Rangers should comfortably surpass their 2019-20 European earnings of £20.7m
European competition provides the gateway for a massive spike in revenues for Scottish clubs.
As noted in their accounts, Rangers are reliant on funding from directors to sustain losses, with player sales combined with Champions League football expected to be needed to make a profit.
