Post 58. Murray's cantraips were suspected years before the crash of 2008/9. The tax case rendered Rangers toxic, so Lloyd's, in the circumstances, would have leaned on Murray to sell to the devil himself. To me however, its overall exposure to Murray group problems was the principal issue. If Murray writ large was sound, Rangers' problems could have been subsumed within the overall group, at least for the medium term. It's hard to be sure, of course.

Bastardry ˈbɑːstədri,ˈbastədri/ noun AUSTRALIAN informal cruel, despicable, or otherwise unpleasant behaviour. And, no, I should not welcome the Knight of the Realm back, even if he is much chastened. His plate spinning antics depended, and would depend now, on nods, winks, and handshakes with the bank, and others, bullish market conditions, and an economy not in recession.
-
The strong suspicion was, has been for some time, still is, that Murray use BofS money, racking up substantial debts and overdrafts, over the whole group, secured against assets that were ultimately insufficient. Rangers' debt was manageable in the trading circumstances of the football Club, but Lloyd's, owner of BofS, took, possibly forced, the opportunity to recoup the £18mill. King's money is not, as far as I know/can see, bank or other debt, but investment from a Trust fund, established for the benefit of family and others.

There was always a lack of clarity over such matters. The spin was that Murray had personally invested, or paid off debt, but the suspicion was that the money came from Murray Group debt to the BofS. At one point, there was a joint co. called, if I recall correctly, MurrayBS (indeed!), the BS being Bank of Scotland, in fact. There was much talk of the property 'empire' being funded on BofS debt, based on 'friendly' valuations, and even 'friendlier' market prognostications. Murray, it seemed to many at the time, had almost carte blanche to borrow. The Murray Group was exposed to market vagaries and fluctuations in two principal sectors: metals and property. Both areas which would, and did, feel the cold draught of economic downturn very quickly. When Lloyds came in, and recognised the extent of exposure all hell broke loose, quite understandably. The Rangers part of the Murray empire became collateral damage. I am not exonerating Lloyds from acting shabbily in this regard, be assured.

The Pre-Summer-2017 transfer rumours and hearsay all inclusive Thread

Curious. Did Pedro 'snub' Ibrox stars or merely Warburton's duds? I am not sure that I should be able to differentiate between them, if pressed. Does rasellik Record do so? -
Rangers players' true level - compared to 90s squad players

On his game, a very enjoyable player to watch. Not one to fit into a tactical straitjacket, mind. -

Limeburner, I think the OP is trying to derive some consolation from reminding himself, and us, that no matter how bad the current incumbents, there was comparable dross who wore the shirt in the past. It's not working for me. -
They are cheaper by the dozen, it seems.

I wasn't commenting on Jackson's attack on Rangers' people, but on the "back page lead", or, perhaps more properly, "back page leak".

I didn't hear a report on Saturday. No bang, merely a whimper. -
Never mind Albertz, Reina, Tugay.....

There is a cricketing story, possibly apocryphal, that during England's (in)famous "bodyline" Ashes tour, 1932-33, the England captain, Douglas Jardine (yes, a Scot, born in Bombay/Mumbai, right enough) approached the Australian dressing room, post play, to complain about bad language. The Oz captain was Bill Woodfull, and the resulting exchange may have been with him Jardine tells the Aussie who answered his knock that one of Aussies had called him a 'bastard'. The Aussie, keeping Jardine at the dressing room door, turns and enquires of his team mates: "Which one of you bastards called this bastard a bastard?" Ian1964 should rely upon the Australian Defence. From what I have read/heard of the Murray/Findlay Show, the defence is founded on showing that Murray is an even bigger liar than Tam Pepper, and Tam Pepper, is, of course, in the dock. The question of bastardry does not seem to come into it.

I tend to agree. I harbour similar sentiments about Garner.

I am surprised only that Richmond ( a rubbish official, if memory serves) did not suggest a yellow card for Miller for 'Ungentlemanly Conduct".

I didn't see/read/listen to any of the after match stuff. It was purdah, or murder. Did PC actually say he had delivered a list of up to 12 targets? He should paint targets on the backs of the players involved in the last two debacles, and charge supporters £100/each to shoot at them with rifles, imho.
-
It's a sort of Predestination arithmetic for Richmond: Ane for Heaven, and ten for Hell.

Is somebody on the Board(s) or in the administration leaking stories to this chips' wrapper? When will they ever learn?
-
Not only was it a disaster, you contrived to watch it sober. Let that be a lesson to you. Six pints and you'll be taking the positives out of it.

On reflection, any half decent player might well feel stressed when asked to play with that lot, out there, on display, today.

A Spaniard with no cojones, playing for a Portuguese who grew up fighting bulls: a scenario always likely to end in tears.

I think that somebody, one of those empowered, should change the title of this thread to: Turning Shame at Hampden into Complete, Abject Humiliation at Ibrox.

Personally, I fear that they will not win another game this season.

After 40mins, Sky tells us Rangers have had 1 shot at goal, fhilthfootballclub 11. Actually, that is shameful.
