  1. Jason Holt for me. Considering that MW's training methods concentrates on short bursts, as far as I'm concerned, with a fairly consistent AVG distance covered at 13-14km per game he is by far one of the hardest working footballers in ANY British league. It becomes even more apparent when you put his stats up against George Boyd the EPL's hardest working player as far as AVG distance covered is concerned who averages 12km per game. Add to that 12 goals and numerous assists in 44 games so far at £65-75k transfer fee that's an excellent bit of business.
  2. This defence which has been a bomb scare all season has started to get its just rewards since about the Falkirk game. Two new defenders, a keeper, a right back and a holding mid fielder are absolutely necessary for next season at a minimum. They had better get it sorted out in time for the Cup Final.
  3. You are correct it is and I changed it with the reasons in the edit. I do take your point that it could be argued as an invincible ignorance fallacy however it is used in good faith if you pardon the pun. As in NOT a real world example. In the real world there are many different colours in many different combinations and by that I mean that we meet may different people all with different interests that are not necessarily constrained by their professions dress code. Just because you are a surgeon, lawyer or banker does not necessarily follow that you do not have inked tattoos for example. Therefore it is not as straight forward as blue/any colour being a disruption or distraction. If you follow.
  4. I don't mind at all. But Wait whut? It is fairly clear to ALL that the premise laid out leads to the conclusion that this action has 'little educational value'. It points the reader towards the possibility of control being the motivating factor in such a case, albeit a subtext. In addition, the introduction of a 'dress code' that excludes ANY student from lessons or educational establishment, regardless of whether we are in agreement with ANY of his other thoughts or ideas, makes a mockery of John Knox original visionary tenet of universal education laid out in his 'The First Book of Discipline' which I most definitely agree with and without which we here writing on this board might not in fact have the necessary education in which to do so. The first sentence that the above quote was crowbarred from is obviously an existential condition, given the thread context, used to highlight an existing case and is clearly NOT a universal 'I don't care what any of you say' about ALL things! Therefore I can only conclude that the above reply is disingenuous as it takes the subordinating conjunction of a conditional construct, gives it a completely new context and argues from that position. Surely you realise that is the very definition of a straw man?
  5. Knox, for all his faults, fundamental principle of educational universality even today some 500 years later has its detractors and indeed difficulties of which you make mention of one possible strand. Fortunately there has been enough forward thinking actors/actions over those years which encourages a variety of pedagogical approaches to accomplish the dissemination of knowledge across the diversity of social, cultural, economic, national and biological backgrounds. However in saying that there are still idolaters of the regimental variety who cry heretic at a 5 year old child for having the creativity to colour his hair BLUE! EDIT: On review. Since its not particularly clear, from above, what it is that I'm arguing against in your comment. The issue for me is with the post-war 'modernists' mistaking uniformity for egalitarianism. The ideas rooted in the modernist period didn't fully show until the late 60's early 70's where it is particularly noticeable in the great concrete chicken coups that sprung up all across the UK as social housing projects. The residents of which were reduced to mere numbers, lacking a sense of pride and ownership in their homes or community. You may argue against that critique if you chose and it may also be harsh one on my part however the lack of social investment is clear as most of these project lay grey tired and abandoned today. In other words from my perspective what you describe is the same uniformity supplanted as egalitarian. Post is heading towards the Lounge by the look of it.
  6. I agree with most of what you've said. Its a ridiculous story. One I see appearing more and more frequently in newspapers... particularly in tabloids. In this particular instance its simply cashing in on The Rangers brand. However as far as I'm concerned there is a deeper pervasive and indeed insidious element to the story. Schools are supposed to be learning centres and by that I mean of the academic variety. Yet frequently I read of one child or another being sent home or refused to attend class for dress code issues. Schools in the UK, and this is where I disagree most vehemently with some of the 'its a distraction' comments, are not supposed to be Victorian prisons or press ganged, conscription based military holding centres where everyone must look, act and dress the same for fear of the breakdown in order. How dare we cobble a childs development by curtailing their personal expression. If all children were permitted to wear what they want it would be second nature, nothing unusual, and certainly not a distraction. Instead we expect 5-15 year old children to not only wear a uniform but to be in uniform formations uttering uniform stock responses! Q. Do you know who else did or does this? A. Perm any number of combinations from regimes or religions. An answer I feel should at least raise an eyebrow from the non puritanical protester. Of course there should be a code of conduct while on school grounds however it should not include a dress code. I don't care what any of you say about this sort of thing being a reflection of the real world and that dress codes are important because that is quite frankly conformist nonsense... they are not... unless we are indoctrinating our children to become unquestioning conformist drones. It has little to no educational value. Chefs, painters and a few others wear white not because it looks smart, although it can, but because they work with materials that stain darker coloured coveralls. Like wise blue, and brown coveralls are used to protect the clothes of workers wearing them from materials that would stain light coloured clothing. Like NHS staff these workers are identifiable by their uniforms. However it all becomes slightly odd to me when we move into the shirt and tie area of uniform/dress code. I cant tell the difference between an clerical officer, a GP, a bank clerk a teacher etc etc etc. It might seem that I'm making a big deal out of nothing but I don't think I am as the argument sits at the very heart of my learnings. If he wants to dye his hair blue then its his choice of personal expression, like wise if it was green or any other colour. If he wants to wear a dress to school again its his personal expression and should illicit no 'surprised' response in the slightest. Schools treat these kinds of situations as rebellious actions. My question often leads back to the same rhetorical question. Rebelling against what exactly?
  7. They did say he scared them initially but not for those reasons... they just though he would be a little lightweight. (Cant remember which poster it was) Absolutely spot on Craig the lad strolled the 30-40 minutes he got and in that time I only counted one wayward pass which was weighted slightly short. He didn't hide, made good angles for his team mates to lay off to, recycle and reset. On one particular occasion late in extra time we were clearing our lines from a Celtic attack. Tav cleared the ball up to Clark on the halfway line who held it up and laid it back to the young lad. As he received the ball it was clear he was in a tight position with 5 Celtic players round him and closing. He smartly dropped it back into a yard of space got turned and delivered an outstanding 10 yard pass round the on rushing Brown with the outside of his boot to the advancing Wallace who then released McKay unfortunately (tired) that fluffed the return pass back in to Wallace now just inside the box. Not many rate him on these boards but I think he will be a player. He's quoted as saying that Pirlo is his favourite player and whom he most wants to emulate. Maybe that's why he's not rated here because he's certainly no Pirlo. However given a year or two when that lad has grown into himself, added on a little bit more timber, some snap in the tackle and confidence that he's not made of glass and he's got all the makings of a Busquets/Khedira.
  8. Old Firm Scottish cup semi final... young Gedion Zelalem 19 years old on loan from Arsenal hasn't kicked a ball in weeks comes on in extra time and was cool as a cucumber bossing the middle of the park. Then in the sudden death part of the penalty shoot out steps up and nonchalantly strokes the ball into the net. That takes some stones from the kid. What a way to score your first goal for the club.

  10. Young Dom absolutely buzzing!
  11. Foderingham got his fingers to the Griffiths free kick to tip it onto the bar. Thats why the players gave him props at the time. It was a great save!
  12. I thought Dom and Big Rob were outstanding in the first half. Then when The big fella went of Ball stepped in and never missed a stitch. I would even have had Dom up there with McKay for MOM.
  13. I would have been happy to have just showed up and made a fist of it but we bossed that game from start to finish. Emotional!!!
  14. Actually the corner was from the other side. It was played into the area glanced header found a Raith player on the pen spot who controlled it and swept it back towards his own goals and collected on the front edge of our 18yard box, the player is then closed down by Haliday and Wilson with King to their right and Zelalem behind them, from there the ball is played out to the side of the box, Wallace tracks it and it is swung back into the mix with Wilson posted missing running back towards the goal... Kiernan is drawn towards the ball to try and win the header because there is no Wilson and Tav comes over to cover him. Holt is on the line with 4 Raith players around him. Miller is in space on the 6 yard box King the same on the 18yard box Zelalem and Haliday a yard apart are standing having a smoke at the pen spot marking nothing and no-one. That's 4 Rangers players standing marking space doing nothing and one (Wilson) still trying to get back to the header Kiernan couldn't reach. Keirnan and Tav in this occasion did what they should have but Wilson being out of position wasn't the only problem with that goal.
  15. I watched the Leceister game myself and the young lad Grey who came on late in the game played it particularly smart holding up play and drawing fouls in the corner. On a side note the park was absolutely immaculate for this late in the season.
  16. John Eustace is the name your looking for. I disagree with some posters on here about the defence in this game. Halliday and Tav were shocking for the whole game. MO'H isn't doing anything for me at all but that might have something to do with Tav rarely linking with him in the same way that Wallace and McKay do on the left. In fact its almost as if he cant see him at all. Our problems are in the middle of the park not the defence. There's not much the two CH's can do when they have 5-6 opposition MF and attackers running onto them. Thats what Halliday is there for... for the last few games I've seen he's always been caught too high up the park, either inside the OPs half or just inside ours he's been taking too long to gather the ball in and take care of it and more often than not loses it right there in the centre circle with Wallace and Tav high (as they should be) Wilson and Kiernan split at the corners of the 18yard box (as they should be) makes him more or less the last man. As I say he loses it with 3-4 MF running past him. Then the Two CH have to try and compensate. We've lost at least two goals to 6 yard box stramash's and that's because we've not dealt with the second ball. With two CH protecting the first ball from free's and conrner's its down to the MF, LB, RB to be picking up the runners and sort it out. EDIT: Just to be clear my own opinion of Wilson is that he's been a bomb scare at times. his distribution is woeful, doesn't reset or recycle as he should. However to his credit he has managed to get either his foot or body in the right position to make crucial blocks on numerous occasions.
  17. Great to see that very genuine exchange with MW and the young lad there.
  18. Gutted? As long as we give a good account of ourselves I'll be happy with that. They're no where near as good a football team as us but they are a big hefty team put together to win the PL. They've done nothing in any other competition outside of that for the last 4 years. We are a little light and it showed in the game against Dundee, not by much against them but, it did show none the less. If they come out and play against us then we'll rip them apart. I don't think that's how they'll set up to play us. Delilah will want to keep it tight, hit on the break and create set pieces. Here's how I think it will go they'll keep it tight for the first 5-10 mins then they wont do as they've been told. Their egos will get the better of them especially if Brown has anything to do with it. He'll go after Halliday as he is they only one who has been seen to react this season. So Andy will need to be smart in the heed about it. When they've got the ball they'll play up to the box and chuck themselves on the deck or round to the flanks for corners from challenges and deflections. They'll kick, push and pull at anything that moves I'd expect our team to be nursing a fair amount of bruising by half time. If we can survive that onslaught and play around them then we'll give a good account of ourselves and that'll do for me.
  19. I'll accept that as your last word on the subject mate. Ta for the contribution though.
  20. I like Lee he reminds me of my uncle, who incidentally and topically since we've been linked recently played with the famous pre and war time 'Lilly Whites' albeit not quite as creative mind but an engine to admire (Hibee or not he has my admiration).
  21. Indeed... I don't have any issues with that Limeburner... if the manager says no then ta ta bella! The reason I asked is because MW seams to prefer youth on the park (energy) while he covets experience off it (motivational/emotional/frame of mind). He does always talk about the right character both on the field, in the dressing room and in public life.
  22. Ahemm cough splutter... Slightly before my time but he was the first name I ever heard mentioned in of the conversations with my Da and his mates.
  23. Absolutely yes it does... especially if there is any veracity in the suggestion that they are in receipt of the £5-7k per week region.
  24. I fully agree with your appraisal of both in terms of their on the pitch contibution... however that's not really my question.
