Derek Johnstone: I'm delighted to be back as Ibrox Ambassador
Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
He is an ambassador for the club. I'm not sure if that is a salaried position but I imagine it is. He is also however in a salaried position on the radio. He cannot have a conflict of interest, otherwise one of the positions would be untenable. He therefore has to manage the situation and conduct himself in a proper manner. If his way of dong that is to take a devil's advocate role, then what's the problem with that? I can't believe some of the stick he's getting for this. He's a Rangers man through and through and I'm delighted he's been given this role. -

Correct, assuming you mean buying from them. However, when it comes to selling, that's exactly where we need to be dealing. The money paid for mediocrity is incredible. -
Possible Sighting of New Hummel Orange Strip

I don't think anyone would argue with that. The logos really do make a mess of the shirts these days. I've noticed how big and ugly the logos are in snooker too and it makes the smart attire look stupid. As for how much we'd lose, right now I'd have a logo on every part of our strips (even tattooed on the players) if it brought in enough money to rebuild the club. It's just a necessary evil these days. -

It's not the role of the ambassador to use his slot on radio to defend the club. That's the role of either the legal team or the media relations team. The role of an ambassador isn't to defend anything. It's to promote the club at events such as foreign and domestic supporters' gatherings. It's to promote the club to youngsters at the soccer school days. It's to attend awards dinners as an appointed representative of the club. Based on the requirement, I think he's ideally suited. Don't you? -
Possible Sighting of New Hummel Orange Strip

Most of the time on these forums we enjoy a great debate and argument about all things Rangers. Now and again however there's an element of our support that surfaces which in my opinion is distasteful and embarrassing. I suppose this element exists in society, and as we've discussed on here before, our support is largely representative of the wider society. It therefore shouldn't be a surprise that we see a representative sample of that in some postings on here. Thankfully, this forum seems to be subjected to it far less than others, which for me is a good thing.- 177 replies

That's not his job as an ambassador though is it? SBS, you'll find a negative slant on everything to do with Rangers and I don't know why. Are you like this in other aspects of your life, or just when it comes to Rangers? -

DJ is a cracking ambassador for our club. His heart is absolutely in it for all the right reasons and his love for the club is never in question. I always get the feeling that he's willing to defend the club, but just not able to. He's not the smartest guy in the world, but I'd rather have him than most others in the frame. I trust him as far as Rangers is concerned, and that's what we need. Great appointment by the club. -
ZINEDINE ZIDANE has backed Steven Gerrard to be a success at Rangers

I'd expect you to think that way. You should be a guest on the Gersnet podcast at some stage. I think you'd be hilarious. It's like the reverend I.M. Jolly. -
O'Halloran pictured amongst Celtic fans at Hampden
Gaffer replied to Gonzo79's topic in Rangers Chat
If that is him and it's a recent photo, just kick him out now. That's disgraceful. In fact, fine him a year's salary and then kick him out because he's been taking money from us that he shouldn't have had. -

That surely isn't from yesterday!?!? Please someone confirm we don't have someone as stupid as that anywhere near our club! He really must know he's away, otherwise that's the most ridiculous decision ever from a Rangers player. Unbelievable! -

I expect the transfer of Halliday to Hibs will be announced soon. It would have been amazing for Halliday to fulfill his ambitions of playing for the club and I'm delighted for him he got that chance. I just don't see him getting many (if any) further games so it's a good deal all around if he moves on. I actually think he's Lennon's sort of player so they should get on quite well. Good luck Andy, and by that I mean I hope you play well, and win all your games, except those against us. -

It's been confirmed..... Rangers have signed Jamie Murphy from Brighton on a three-year contract, the Ibrox club have announced. I'm pleased about this. He's a very good player but I hope Gerrard plays him in a more central role. -

You're funny Bill. I'm sure in your head you really "feel" that. Thankfully, many of us "feel" that you have the right to think that, even when you're wrong. And the fact you don't understand that there are any people who vote SNP and who don't want independence, proves that you don't actually do much "analysis" either. I'd point out the facts to you but you're so consumed by your own "feelings", it wouldn't make any difference. I do however think it's absolute proof that the Rangers has a wide range of society and views comprising its support and although I accept you don't like that, I think it's a good thing. -

And in an idea like world, you wouldn't have people like you trying to divide the support. I've tried to get us away from this segregation you want to create, but it's clear that you don't accept others being on the same side as you unless they share your politics. That's a shame. At a time when we are all supposed to be pulling together, you choose to create trouble in the support. Bizarre! Politicians are almost an irrelevance to me. Rangers is the reason I come on to this site. Maybe we could create an off topic thread for things like this?!? -

That's a really disappointing thing to say if that's true. Surely we are all on the same side if we support Rangers!?! -

I don't know what that is, but if it's another attempt at humour, you need to stick to the day job. I think what's evident is that the only thing you and I have in common is the team we support. I say this, not because our politics are different, but because we each have different standards in terms of the way we treat people. -

You're right, there's nothing stopping them from doing it. We've got a culture of people (including those in the press) knowing and defending their rights, but very little done to know and respect their responsibilities. The press has freedom to write its stories, but with that should come a responsibility to do it sensibly. No one trusts the press anymore. At one stage it was a valued service. Now, thanks to the laziness and corruption it's a laughing stock. Does anyone really go to a newspaper for real transfer news, or insights about tactics, or anything like that? Not a chance. These guys know nothing about our game because they spend all their time writing superficial nonsense. The press sickened me a long time ago and I have not bought a newspaper for nearly 20 years now. I won't buy them because they're not news, they're just about 'entertainment'. If you want the news these days, you need to get it from trusted sources, not newspapers or many of the tv channels. The press in Scotland is about as lazy as I've ever witnessed. They'll make stories up from their desks for two reasons. The first is that it's easy, they're lazy, and they can get away with it. The second reason is because it's what the mindless morons that make up their readership want. They'll accept as much anti Rangers stuff (whether true or fabricated) as any newspaper can provide. These rags have already started to decline and I hope I'm alive long enough to see the end for them. In the meantime, there's no point in going anywhere other than the Rangers forums (and Gersnet in particular) to get the real news about all things to do with our club. Most of these lazy writers get their real stories from here anyway. -

You think your posts aren't insulting? You think this post isn't insulting? You've made no accusations? I obviously don't get this humour then. Having said that, if you're trying to be divisive, you've won. Congratulations. -

Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Bill, you're now being insulting and there is no need for that. This is exactly what happens when you divide a support and you should stop this. My friends voted YES because they wanted Scotland to have more devolved powers, not to break up the UK. That's not the point though. You are being insulting to your own support. Why?!? As for me suggesting that around 50% of Rangers fans voted for the SNP, or YES, I say that because I think our fans are pretty much representative of the wider electorate so it seems a sensible assumption to make. As for criticising the SNP, again I don't know why you put words in my mouth. I don't know what the SNP or any other party is doing to our club but if you point that out, then certainly that party deserves criticism. I repeat this, you are being insulting and divisive for some reason. It seems inconceivable to you that our support don't share your politics. That's naive. Let's get back to the topic and stop this segregation. We have enough enemies without you creating more division within the support. -

Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Isn't it naive to think you can tell people why they voted a certain way. Just because you can't think of it, there are other reasons. Everytime you try to associate SNP or the YES voters with the enemy, you segregate 50% of our supporters. That's what I'm asking you to stop. It isn't helpful. By all means attack idiotic politicians like Dornan and Humza for their blatant twisting of facts, but don't criticise your own fellow supporters for the decisions they take. -

Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I'm afraid that it's you that's twisting words with that statement. Just because someone votes YES doesn't mean they hate the UK. People will vote YES for all sorts of reasons. You always want to bring politics into football. I wish you'd stop it. It's counter productive and only segregates the support. We are all Rangers fans. Some of us will vote for parties that others don't like. That's politics. We all support Rangers. That's football. Let's not mix them up. -
You've done a great job my friend. You've consistently pointed out the extreme bias that goes on at PQ. It's so obvious these days that they just don't care how obvious it is. I am glad for your own sanity that you turned it off. Next season, just leave it off. You're correct in saying that you (we) deserve a decent service but we won't - not for a while yet. I know many of us just think about how sweet 55 will be. These morons will be left out in the cold while Stevie G starts the Rangers revolution. And when we take the league (which we will at some point in the not on distant future), I'll enjoy not hearing or seeing any of them.
-
I'll give you all 4 weeks of no football and you'll be wishing the season was still going. Even the upcoming World Cup isn't enough to satisfy the need to watch the gers. I hate the close season. It's too long, and the speculation on transfers this year especially with drive us all crazy. I reflect on the fact that if I had been born to different parents, or in a different part of the world, I might have ended up supporting another team. So, no matter how bad things are at our club, at least I wake up every morning a bear. I thank my lucky stars for that!

Pena in false story shocker! Who comes up with these ridiculous stories? The poor guy is having a tough time and yet feels he has to come out with a clarification like this while with his family.

PRESS CONFERENCE | Jason Cummings & Jimmy Nicholl 11 May 2018
Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
A few fans had suggested that JN would have been the better manager. Going by the press conferences I can't imagine he'd be a good manager or assistant. And he's certainly not the person you'd want in front of the press very often. It's hard work listening to him. He was a fine player though.
