Gerrard brands Daniel Candeias' red card an 'embarrassment'
Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I agree, this wasn't really about having the decision overturned, it was more about exposing it. However, now that it has been exposed, what will be done? Nothing! -
Isn't it strange how we can watch the same matches and yet have completely differing opinions?! For me, Kent and Morelos are our two best players, and by some distance. Kent is such an attacking threat, and is an excellent role model for Middleton, because he is disciplined at defending and varies his attack. Middleton is a very good prospect, but I don't rate him anywhere near Kent at the moment. His movement is too one-dimensional for me. He is fast and if given the opportunity he will exploit that pace down the wing, but against better quality players he just won't get that opportunity. I obviously hope he plays a blinder tonight and then gives the manager some tough decisions, but for me Middleton still has a long way to go before he dislodges Kent from the team.

I agree with most of that, but Celtic's financial health is far more precarious/serious than is being discussed or acknowledged. It really is crunch time for both clubs at the moment. The current levels of availabl funding in our game cannot sustain two clubs competing seriously in Europe. Either both clubs have to agree to accept a minor role in European competitions, or fight til the death of one of us. Given that the clubs no longer have that desire to work together (as we did throughout most of the 20th century), I fear we are in a race to the death. At the moment, Rangers can convert the debt to equity and achieve a sustainable businessman model by reducing costs. We won't accept that as fans so there's little or no chance of that happening, despite it being my preference. Celtic on the other hand have almost bet the future of their business on them achieving regular European funds. They failed this year and this will impact them. If they'd fail next year it will be very severe. I suspect King and the board recognises that and are waiting to pounce. It's all very risky though.

Yet another attack by the Anti-Rangers Party (SNP)
Gaffer replied to Bluedell's topic in Rangers Chat
I suspect you are right about the simplicity as far as the MSPs are concerned, but I don't think it's a simple box for the voters. I think it's very presumptive to say that those who vote SNP are voting based on a single policy to achieve independence. I wonder if others can shed some light on that because I'm only going by what some friends/family members tell me their reasons are. Not only do I think that people DO vote based on their families, job, health, and wealth, but it actually astonishes me that you doubt that. I think you really believe they'd vote independence at all costs. Maybe you're right, but I'd be surprised if that's the case. Again, maybe an appropriate person can comment. I do know though that if I was certain that a particular party could do wonders for my family, but at the expense of my football team, I'd vote for them. Like you though, I don't think any of these parties really have the desire and ability to make the sort of changes that could really make a difference. Buster's earlier observation may be correct that it's a race to the bottom. I don't believe that politicians start off life in that sphere to screw things up, so is their inability to make things better just a result of their incompetence? I'd prefer more people outside of politics to get involved, even to resolve single issues. I can't blame those that don't though. I wouldn't. I like to base decisions on facts, and all the misinformation would just frustrate me. I understand the economics of Scotland, UK, and the EU and it amazes me how all sides blatantly manipulate the same facts to support their arguments. And since we are on the subject of facts, we are just 4 points behind Celtic, and with their inability to continue at the same level of funding in their team in 2019, it's only a matter of time before they implode. So, unless much of our debt is converted to equity (as has been suggested), maybe the old firm clubs are also in a race to the bottom too. As long as we get 55 before that happens, I'll be happy. -

I don't agree with you assessment of class. If the opposition kicked me at every opportunity, or abused me on the pitch, I would NOT shake hands, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to either. In fact, I think this is all wrong in football. Why should that sort of abuse be left on the pitch with a handshake? No chance. By shaking hands it's almost like an acknowledgement that it's ok to do that. As for shushing other players or fans, I pod t particularly like that, but don't really see the problem with it. Equally, it didn't bother me when Griffiths was tying their scarf to our post. -
Yet another attack by the Anti-Rangers Party (SNP)
Gaffer replied to Bluedell's topic in Rangers Chat
I find a lot of this thread very interesting, and it just shows the various assumptions that some of us can make about people based on their voting preferences. Even when I did vote for any party (many many years ago), I don't know what anyone could really take from it, unless they knew which specific policy drove me to vote for them. Are people so entrenched in a particular party that these assumptions are reasonable? I've seen statements on here saying that the SNP supporters are anti unionist, and that they are republicans, etc. Really? I understand a lot of people are, but it's too much to assume that the majority are. I've voted SNP (along with many other parties) in the past but it was for very specific policies that were important to me at the time. So what would you call me? I could be regarded as unionist because I prefer being part of a United Kingdom. But I could be anti union since I want to leave the EU (but please don't get me started on that can of worms). I have to say though that if I thought an independent Scotland would be better, I'd vote for that in a referendum. I don't, so I don't. Having had such a landslide victory at the polls for the SNP a few years ago, those that believe that all SNP supporters are pro independence would have expected a clear victory in that regard at the referendum. That didn't happen, so why do we persist with this desire to lump people together in simple boxes? That doesn't make sense to me. My point is that it is surely almost impossible to know much about someone based on a box they tick at the polls. Having said that, I create my own box which reads "None of the above" so I agree that tells you a bit about how I think, but let's leave that aside. What I can tell you is that I am not thinking about my role as a Rangers fan when I'm at the polls and doubt many people are. Instead they'll be thinking about their families, job, health, wealth, and other such issues. Equally however, I think people DO think about how trustworthy (or not) certain politicians have proven to be, and vote accordingly. It's for that reason, and that reason alone that I think many voters will turn against these moronic politicians who spout such open bias or lies. The problem (as I've found) is who to then vote for. Maybe the reason so many people turn out for referendums and yet so few for general elections demonstrates that people ARE politically minded, but they just dislike career politicians. Its funny how quick so many people are to condemn others (especially fellow fans) for voting SNP. If you consider the injustices perpetrated by Labour and the Tories, are any of their voters able to take a moral high ground? I wouldn't think so. -

I wonder if the SNP's party leaders appreciate the strength of feeling towards some of their MSPs and other members. If they don't, they are out of touch and that demonstrates poor leadership. If they do acknowledge it, they've done nothing to create the perception that they want to do something about it. Either way, they deserve a good hiding in the next elections. I know of quite a few SNP voters that will now vote for an alternative because of their behaviour. The funny thing is that it's the contradictions, double standards, and lies that's caused it. The only problem for me is that some other useless clown of an MSP or councillor will take their place. I'd like to change our political system to a dictatorship, with me as the dictator. I'd certainly make some changes. #VoteForGaffer -

Gaffer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Very true. I know we've discussed this before but maybe as a club we should be more vocal about the poor decisions against us. I don't personally like doing that, but it would appear to have given Celtic and Hibs an advantage so maybe we have to. Do we know yet why that card was given to DC yet? I still can't believe it was for that incident because there is no way the ref could interpret that as being his fault in any way. In fact, I wouldn't have thought Ferdinand deserved a yellow for that either. So, was there something else that we've missed? If it was for that incident, Collum deserves to be punished. We have to set and maintain standards, and allowing him to ref more SPL games after that would be an embarrassment to other refs ..... surely. -

I've never heard of this MSP but how ridiculous of him to make such a statement. Equally ridiculous however is your boring and predictable attack on fellow fans each time an SNP member does something like this. Attack the SNP member, but leave our fans alone please. The shame is on you for that. I can't imagine who you vote for that gives you the moral high ground each time. -
We aren't doing much wrong. We are moving the ball quickly, switching it well, and the movement is good too. We just don't seem to be able to create a chance though. There's not a lot wrong though, and we can't fault their effort.
-
The Aberdeen fans come to Glasgow, watch their team get completely pumped and yet they travel home happy. Football can be a cruel game. I think I'm more bewildered than disappointed.
-
I thought we played well. It's tough to break down teams that defend like that. Utterly sickening to lose but I'm loving the football we are playing. We need to convert it to goals though. When we learn to do that we will be title contenders. Until we do though we will struggle against any team that sits in.
-
I agree with what you guys are saying. We've dominated this and must have had 70% possession. Jack looks so comfortable and it's great to see him back in the team after injury. I'm surprised a time how well Sadiq has played. We need a goal and if we get one this could be an easy victory. I'll be nervous until we do. Having said that, some of the football we are playing here is excellent to watch. It'd be even better when we are a goal up.

Great job again. Pete cracks me up and this time with a particular belter "I've obviously been groping my wife in the wrong place". Great topics, excellent and informed opinions. Love it. -
I agree with you there. He deserves to be kicked out of office for his illiteracy alone. Those were shocking emails for anyone in such a position. So much for successive governments talking about education, education, education. Maybe they should start by improving standards closer to home first. Going back to this matter at hand though, I've not heard or read anything new in a couple of days now. Have I missed anything? I was hoping a resignation or seven would have occurred by now.
-
That was aimed at the Celtic fans who do not have a life outside of Rangers. It wasn't aimed at "us" on this forum. I think you misinterpreted what I said. Either way it shows I failed in my attempt at some humour. ?
-
That's great, and I appreciate you posting that. It's just that sometimes you don't come across that way. We are all bears and want the best for our club. I'm just suggesting that you don't try to "weed out" supporters just because they don't vote the way you'd want them to. p.s. For the avoidance of doubt, and to answer your direct question .... my suspicion was that you are a member of another party and trying to use any opportunity to sway people to vote differently. I'm probably wrong, but it's that behaviour (everything my party does is good, and everything other parties does is bad) that put me off party politicians a long time ago and it's the reason I vote for "none of the above".
-
Thanks Bluedell, because I hadn't noticed that. That appears to be a sinister move so I'd appreciate them explaining the rationale behind that.
-
Gonzo: your attitude towards fellow bears is worse than anything from those outside our club. People like you create unnecessary division and I am suspicious of your motives. I like reading many of your posts and enjoy much of the banter but what you do is deeply damaging. People vote on many issues, most of which are much more important than those that affect our football club. Try to remember that. You know nothing about some of our fellow supporters, and therefore know nothing about the issues that affect their lives and are important to them. Yes, Rangers is very important to everyone here, but it's not the only important part of our lives. I think you should be more respectful, but that's just my opinion. Most of us have a life outside of Rangers (except of course the obsessed ones in green), so let's criticise politicians, parties, or anyone else where merited, but let's stop having a go at our own fans. Please!
-
Well done 26th for having the persistence to point this out. You do a top job and although I've no idea how you ever muster enough energy to keep this up, your efforts are appreciated. As for this disgusting banner, it's yet again an instance of blatant bias.
-
As most of you will know, I've argued against those who attempt to make this a SNP v Rangers issue. Instead, I've argued that this is a group of individuals (who just happen to be in the SNP) who are acting in such a biased manner, rather than a mainstream party acting against our club. I still think this, however at the very least some questions need to be raised, and as someone who has no political bias (other than mistrusting all of them equally) I thought I'd raise them. 1. Given that there was an obvious attempt by councillors to intervene in such a sinister way, what are the leaders within the SNP doing to investigate and address this? 2. Given that a significant proportion of the country is now questioning the motives of a party, why is no one in the party attempting to manage our perceptions? If some of the posters on here were correct (in that few Rangers supporters vote for SNP), then this would be understandable, because they're unlikely to change opinions anyway. However, this is not correct and with around 50% of Rangers fans voting SNP there is a decent number of votes on the line here. 3. With so many overtly bigoted tweets from the SNP representatives, has the SNP leadership taken steps to ensure that this stupidity is addressed? Perception is all that matters in politics, and I find it astonishing that the party is either unaware of this growing concern, or so unconcerned that they choose to do nothing about it. I'll reiterate that I don't believe there is any evidence that the SNP party is anti Rangers, so why allow certain individuals to damage their party without being seen to tackle the issue? It demonstrates either poor leadership, or a level of arrogance that is concerning. Politics and football should not mix, however it is inevitable that politicians (as is the case with any profession) will bring their bias into their workplace. Let's not confuse the two.
-
I appreciate what 26th is doing in bringing their bias and bigotry to light, but for me the BBC has been, is, and will continue to be, an utter irrelevance. Actually, this isn't quite true because I did watch the recent series called "The Bodyguard", which was excellent. However, as far as sports writers are concerned, the only ones I'm interested in are on Gersnet. I'm not kidding. What can anyone possibly get of value anywhere else? There are of course other really great blogs like FourLads, etc, but as far as mainstream media, there is nothing that offers any value or insight. Do yourselves a favour. Don't read about our team elsewhere and your stress levels instantly decrease. If we ignored the irrelevance and the noise (to coin a phrase), would that be such a problem. Maybe we should be holding them to account, but when it's so overrun with morons, why bother. Let them die in a pool of their own hatred because that's where they're headed. Watching Rangers on RTV was also a revelation for me. Gone was the frustration I'd aim at clowns either stating the obvious or having a dig at every opportunity. Now I watch the away games in comfort and enjoy it. Try it, it works.

All Club 1872 had to do here was load the gun. Other politicians will now gladly fire it. I'm sure they sense blood here, and I just can't see how these councillors will survive this, nor should they. They were stupid in the first instance, and then followed that up with the type of open goal dishonesty that proves they're not worthy of their positions. Idiots!!!!

I posted this at the same time as Ian so not sure if you want to close one and move the comments over.

http://club1872.co.uk/news/club-1872-response-to-ibrox-fanzone-foi-release/ I have read through this and believe their assumptions to be correct. Unless someone at GCC can provide a legitimate reason for this, resignations/sackings should follow. As I said at the beginning of this fiasco, it's not the interventions (as distasteful and sinister as they were) that will get you sacked, it's the cover up. There were quite a few involved in this cover up and they must be removed. Great work by Club 1872. Another great example of a role you can fulfil on behalf of our fans. We've had enough of this.
