  1. This is who told them.

Trial by facebook? Which sort of smacks of their previous claims of emails from unknowns and alleged claims by unknown police about Rangers fans preventing reinforcements getting into Hampden.

It's only trial by facebook if it turns out to be the guy named in the report. Given his replies in the report I'd doubt he was sitting at home watching the match on tv though.

  2. Depends what he saw and was reacting to. A Rangers' player lying prone with danger all around him would move most into some action or another, I'd have thought. I realise it may have been someone just fancying a punch up on the pitch but we don't really know yet, do we? Also, and again without wishing to condone something that may (only may thus far) be out of order, I grew up going to games in the 70s and the idea of any fans, far less Rangers' lads, not reacting to a mob of pitch invaders giving it wanker signs etc. is hard for me to imagine. The Irish chap, Barry Glendenning, reporting on it on the Guardian podcast, said that we only reacted after the most severe provocation.

I did my time in the trenches home, away and in Europe in the 70's too mate. Those were far different days. Provocation is no defence in a court case. But one thing I would say is, the authorities should be striking an award to the Rangers fans for the constraint they showed that day rather than subjecting them to enquiry and trial by prejudiced madia.

  3. The Daily Rhebels choice of words could have legal ramifications that may well benefit this guy.

I don't think so coop. He hasn't been charged with anything so his case as far as I'm aware, isn't "live". Also, reading the DR article I don't see anything which would affect his trial if it happens in the future.

As to who told the DR - there are thousands of them, all no doubt wearing green and grey while hammering out their bile to the internet.

  4. The signing of Barton had 'RISK' written all over it. I was in favour of it only because of our previous 'RISKY' signing - Paul Gascoigne - he turned out ok.

Before people 'jump' on me in my comparison of JB to Gazza...they were the same circumstances, though on a different scale.

We need to remember where we have been.:)

Trying to be honest Bearman, until I read the reports here I had never even heard of Barton. Hardly surprising though since I don't take any interest of English football.

But the whole world knew who Gazza was. Yes he was flawed and we all knew that. My main concern at the time was he was coming from Italy because his legs had gave out again and we were the only mugs willing to pay him the wage he thought he was worth. I'm in no way ashamed to say I was wrong.

Gazza proved me wrong in a very short time. I've seen nothing from Barton yet suggesting that so-called damaged goods are worth taking the risk on him.

Naturally I'll be delighted to put my hands up if proven to be a diddy yet again.

  5. There can't be any other room in the world with more than this room...:D

I remember going to their midden in the 60's and being totally startled by the fact their "saltire", flown as league winners, was green rather than blue. I asked my dad why they were not flying the flag of the country they played in. Later the green, white and orange flags raised other questions.

  6. Hasn't Whyte already been found guilty of fraudulently obtaining money from ticketus in England ?

And a trustee appointed to try & recover the money? As well as a 15 year directorship ban by the DTI

How are these charges different from the ones in England?

That was a civil case as far as I'm aware Rab. He hasn't faced any criminal trial yet.

  7. It's a bad symbol to use in my opinion. Salty old seadogs know of the negative connotations that it carries. Hope that the club never uses it again. In fact I'll email them later on and warn them not to use it.

Also perhaps admin can consider banning use of the Saltire in here.

I'm an old salty seadog RS. At sea it is not being used as a national flag, rather as a signal flag.

I used to have the signal flags for my initials embroidered onto my dress shirts. :seal:

  8. Honestly can't see any complaints being made regards flying the Saltire at Ibrox?

Maybe someone took it home with them after the QOTS game and forgot to bring it back? ;)3

Saltires were waved in the majority at Ibrox before the trouble started in Ireland. The Union Flag took over after that time. Probably the rise of the SNP sees it perceived by some as being somewhat toxic at our stadium - certainly I got criticised by a couple of fellow bears for taking one to a euro match a few years ago.

I waved a saltire with "Rangers FC" across it at Ibrox from 1961 onwards. It also went to Wembley with me 4 internationals in a row.

  9. Just a throw in the air. Would the club not need to get permission to show the saltire. I have no idea what this was about to be honest. Was it a planned show by the club? To show Royal colours you need to get permission as an organisation.

I think you're maybe confusing the Saltire with the Royal Standard Pete. I believe permission is required for the monarchs flag to be flown.

  10. Not sure why common sense should be trolling. It's got bugger all to do with a football game between Rangers and Partick Thistle. Anyway, speaking of satires, I was watching the Champions League "follow all games" station in midweek and one night they kept cutting to them v. City and I thought I saw a large saltire at one point. Was I mistaken? I thought saltires were despised, if not banned, there.

You did indeed see a Saltire being waved at their match. I noticed it myself. It's probably allowed now due to the manks being the standard bearers for every "persecuted minority". Protest against Westminster will be reason enough for that mob.

  11. It's not really when you consider that the turnout of eligible voters in the Fans Board elections was circa 5%.

I think the gap between eligible voters and votes cast will be huge.

Becasue I know so little about some of the candidates and absolutely nothing about most [with one exception who would definitely NOT be getting my vote] I've left my votes to my son in law who'll do them at the same time he does his own.

  12. Doesn't matter if they are nothing more than an extension of the Club :ninja:

In all seriousness, I couldn't possibly say one way or another as I don't really know any of them, hence why I never voted in the Gersnet poll. Rather than being voting apathy it was because of a complete lack of knowledge of those vying for election.

Either way, I wish all successful candidates well and hope that Club 1872 can become the vehicle that we all wish it to be.

    I didn't vote either.

  13. Allardyce is a plonker for doing this. Why would they even put any trust into agents in the first place.

I think the FA want Wenger badly and may wait for him next year.

I think they will go for Wenger. It'll cost them plenty though. But let's face it, a very large pay packet goes with that job no matter who takes it.

  14. Have or will club 1872 said anything about this ? This is exactly what I support them for so expect some sort of statement.

Similarly, because there are some amongst its members who lost out during the Whyte, Green, etc capers I think they have an ideal opportunity to call for updates from the Crown office about the ongoing court case shambles. I'd guarantee that if it was the manks in our position they wouldn't have it off the front pages of the press.

  15. I'm reading via the newsnow link that sellik fans are "reacting furiously" at the SFA's double standards where "Warburton s offered a one match ban while Lennon got a 6 match ban."

    http://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-fans-react-twitter-mark-warburton-ban-recall-neil-lennons-suspension/?

Why do these foools continue to rewrite history ? Lennon got offered a 2 match ban but choose to fight his case. He lost and got a 6 match ban later reduced to 4 on appeal. Also conveniently forgotten are the other two reports where he escaped with no punishment at all. The afrementioned also says nothing about events leading up to the referees going out on strike.

  16. Said "with strict liability, clubs can't be held responsible for the actions of their fans". Ok then, so it's fill your boots time as fans, including Rangers fans, can do whatever they want without fear of the club being punished. Curiosly this is reported on a CL night!. Hoping it would fall under the radar me thinks!!

Most definitely, should Man City hand out the horsing I expect. :seal:
