  1. I have now reconfirmed with the restaurant so I can confirm that The Fifth (formerly Semi-Annual) Official Gersnet Dinner will be held at La Fiorentina Ristorante, 2 Paisley Rd W, Glasgow G51 1LE, following our last home league match vs Hearts on Saturday the 13th May 2017, 2.30pm for 3.00pm.

There will be a 3-course Italian Menu.

I am pleased to say that I have been able to restrict the price to £17.50 per head.

It would be helpful if folk could pay in one lump sum; but if that causes anyone any difficulty I will be happy to accept a £10 deposit with the balance payable by Saturday 6th of May 2017.

For those who have attended in the past, the bank details remain the same. Newbies please PM me for details. All confirmed payments will be posted here.

Maximum seating is 36; first come first served.

BH, could you clear some space in your inbox. I'm unable to PM you as it's full.

    Thanks.

  2. As a small aside, I remember a game Thirds played against I think Dunfermline where the ball was up at the Crosshill end and the referee stopped play. He then made his way to the Toryglen end where he sent off the Thirds keeper. It turned out the keeper had kicked the ball upfield but had then stuck one on an opposing forward. Being a youngster I didn't know something like that could happen.

  3. I come from that area and have been listening to the same story since shortly after they went out of business . All this talk of 2000 stands , etc is just a fairy tale. It won't happen imo. I got the chance to play for the amateur club myself in the late 70's but honestly thought the guys telling me to get myself down for a trial the following weekend were a couple of pervs. :bouncy2:

As to the Hi Hi - "nickname was rumoured to have started during a match in the late 1890s, when a defender kicked the ball so high out of the ground that the crowd started screaming "High High High" and that nickname stayed with the club ever since."

  4. The new guy will not blast CW with thunderbolts. He'll completely undermine him without Finlay knowing it. CW's going down.

Findlay is the last guy I'd want defending me if I was facing serious charges. In saying that, I think he has the baws to push Murray into a corner to demand answers into how Whyte got control despite having no money. It will also be interesting to see if the Ticketus agreement really does have Whyte and Murrays signature on it.

  5. I dont think DK is much of a fan of Red tape etc.Hes probably had years of practise riding roughshod over it. Sometimes you get away with it----sometimes you dont.

At least hes not stealing from us. Only thing i dont understand is,why he is reluctant to hoover up as many 20 pence shares as he can?

I've seen figures mentioned up to a million just to allow him to offer. My suspicion is he wouldn't get a single taker at 20p. That's a million down the drain.

The alternative isn't worth thinking about though.

  6. My memory isn't up to it, I'm afraid, think I was just about to turn 16, so the following is not reliable. We hit the bar but I don't remember it being twice and I wouldn't have remembered Jardine until you said it. I remember a summer's day, for me an unbelievably small crowd for an OF game - far fewer than previously, an action packed game non-stop end to end due to the amended offside rule experiment. I remember that I was sure we deserved to win (I always was) and glaring late misses that should have won the game and then the penalty debacle. They missed, then Parlane missed with a shocker, Tam McLean consoled him as he was beside himself and then McLean - almost as though in sympathy - missed with an even weaker effort.

I remember everyone I was with and the scarves we wore.

McLean's was one of the poorest penalty kicks I've ever seen. It was taken into the Toryglen end but even from 150 yards away I could see it being saved. If the keeper hadn't touched it I don't think it had the strength to cross the line.

  7. Meanwhile, over on Kiddyfiddler Street -

" We should hire a retired referee with top level experience to analyse every match we play and then produce a report on the refereeing performance of the ref and his assistants after every match. If these reports show either ineptitude or corruption we should then take the matter to UEFA. " :laugh2:

Er, two retired referees gave opinions on the last Rangers v Celtic match and you lot didn't accept them simply because they didn't give the opinions you wanted. :bouncy2:

  8. " Scott Brown will be available for Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Rangers next week, according to a report.

The Brechin Advertiser claims that the Bhoys will lodge an appeal against the key midfielder’s red card against Ross County.

Because of the Bank Holiday weekend, the Scottish Football Association will not be able to hold a hearing until April 27 – five days after the Old Firm fixture.

That will leave Brown to play in the crucial game against Rangers. "

  9. BH, " I would venture a comment at this stage that letting sleeping dogs lie (however unpalatable) and perhaps simply relying on the required 7 years's notice of termination, which was given at the beginning of 2016 was the only real solution to the problem. "

If the cyber babble from those who claim to have the ears of those involved is to be believed then Ashley simply isn't interested in burying any hatchets. He wants to cost King dearly and will do so in the full knowledge that no matter what the Rangers board do he has a contract with years still to run. He wins both ways.

  10. Actually, I wouldn't put it past him to excel in England or even Germany. The footie there will be different to the constant "parked bus" and solid defending he faces in Scotland, which might suit his style.

A look at the past couple of matches when despite 30 odd corners he couldn't deliver one single meaningful delivery says all there needs to be known about McKay.

He is a luxury very few teams in world football would be willing to put up with.

Unless a winger can give a forward the ball to do something with then he's nothing more than the waste of a clean jersey.

I like McKay. I was brought up in the days of tanner-baw players. McKay fails at what Henderson, etc regarded as bread and butter.

  11. " Dave King will be taken to court after he flouted an order to make a mandatory £11m buyout offer for shares in Rangers' holding company.

Record Sport told how the Ibrox chief was facing another high-profile battle against the authorities after defying the Takeover Panel.

That body has now confirmed they have opened proceedings at the Court of Session against King. "

  12. From PC's presser, MOH will not be part of the squad on Saturday but we wont be adding anything further about it. Clearly an internal disciplinary matter, so it would seem MOH has not done what was asked of him and his story wasnt accepted by PC.

It makes for a more sensational headline for the press to say he's being sacked or whatever rather than it just being an internal matter.

To be fair, I think it was his last outing where I thought there might just be a player in there somewhere.

  13. I see the mank sites are now pushing the line that because King cannot now have a share issue Rangers will not be able to get a licence to play in Europe should we qualify. Apparently the "experts" have decided that the soft loans do not mean there has been financial fair play. The tarred one says paperwork submitted by Rangers to the SFA was sent back to us last week marked "incomplete" and requesting clarification.

Needless to say they are now bombarding the SFA and UEFA with complaints, all in the interest of sporting integrity of course.

  14. Rangers v Celtic, Apr 29, 12:00 – Live on Sky Sports

Partick Thistle v Rangers, May 7, 12:15, Live on BT Sport

Rangers v Hearts, May 13, 12:15, Live on Sky Sports

    Rangers v Aberdeen, May 17, 19:45

    St Johnstone v Rangers, May 21, 12:30

It's the fans who are important right enough, eh ?

That's enough to see me quit going to matches.

3pm on a Saturday is what should have been announced. It's not as if they collect a fortune for screening matches at silly times.

  15. "Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is offering to give away a pair of FREE Old Firm tickets - if someone will strip his wallpaper for him.

The footballer has been inundated with volunteers willing to come forward to take him up on his offer after he posted an appeal online.

Wes wrote: “So stripping Wallpaper isn’t one of my strengths.... any professionals that fancy stripping a small bedroom of that horrible woodchip wallpaper and a small hall with a couple layers of regular wallpaper in exchange for a couple tickets for the semi final at hampden give me a shout.”
