Dementia is not selective as it affects many who played and many who did not play football.

What I have noticed in the majority of those having played football all too often the old leather football which soaked up moisture is a common denominator.

Jimmy Miller and many others of his age suffering this affliction played for much of their later careers with a "Thomson T Ball" Mac, which in no way could be described as an old bladder with laces.

As a kid I got a bladder for Christmas, etc and understand what you are saying. Maybe Jimmy spent his youth and early career heading the dubbin covered bag of sand but I'm certain that had gone later before he retired.

I personally put it down to folk living longer but of course am open to proven medical opinion.

The solution to that is play league cup games on the weekends but revamp it so the 'group stages (stop laughing at the back) isnt just for lower tier teams.

 

But increase it to 18 teams then its 34 games although they would still come up with a baffling split.

The split isn't the problem Gribz. The clubs have their own income sewn up. Tv money is what keeps the whole fiasco running at the moment. The league bodies and the SFA have their own nests to feather. That's why we get 7pm on a Friday and 12 noon kick offs which have successfully put more fans off paying to see Scottish football than Mutton has to view in their own homes.

If I won the raffle at my church fete I'd probably be in a position to outbid BT Sport, Sky and the BBC too.

I could have went to the game at Hampden, hospitality included, but no way I could have sat there watching 2 teams I detest.

My mother in law suffered 10 years of dementia before her death. I think I can say with some certainty that she didn't spend her free time heading a bladder.

Some day they will hopefully diagnose exactly what causes this most terrible disease.

I am rather fussy about what I put over my neck, nothing by McEwan's for a start.

I'm always astounded by folk paying well over the odds for wee bottles of "fancy" beers like Italian or Mexican lagers. Be as well dropping an Alka Seltzer into a glass of water.

Oh, and McEwans Export was an excellent heavy back in the 70's.

I make my own beers so am very rarely in pubs.

I seemed to be the lone Arsenal fan in my local last night. I'll never understand the Rangers/Chelsea thing - our history with Arsenal goes back many more years.

For his height it was amazing how many big centre halfs Jimmy outjumped to score with the head.

I knew that there was somebody, somewhere who drank Tartan Special.

I didn't even know they still sold the stuff until I wandered into that pub. I was convinced they'd taken it off the market. You just don't seem to see it sold anywhere these days mate.

It's a smashing pint too for 3 quid.

My daughters partner runs a pub which is about 50/50 when it comes to the manks and us. I was down the town attending to business [the first time I've been able to wear shoes since our forum do btw] so popped in for a pint of Tartan just at kick off. Within the first few minutes sellik quite correctly had an offside decision given against them and some tramp shouted out, " Ach, that's it started already. This what we're up against. Cheating bassas."

Knowing I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut I guzzled my pint and left.

As it turned out the next pub was selling pints of Red McGregor at £2 and provided a seemingly endless supply of pies and sausage rolls free.

I couldn't care less who won the match. I was hoping they'd both get beat.

I know it is almost 30 degrees outside, some have swallowed almost 5 litres of cider, currently have wives nagging them, dugs needing fed, grass needing cut and people are a little hot under the collar. Miscommunication is the biggest cause of fall outs and arguments.

I couldn't give a monkeys how many tv screens there are or the quality of the picture they show.

I pay to watch what's on show on the pitch.

The bottom line is that pundits and personal columns in the press get round any accusations by saying it is personal opinion & not that of the broadcaster/publisher - case closed.

 

Ban them & they talk/write about it anyway, possibly with a more bitter slant.

 

Include them MORE??? Feed them exclusives etc & hope that they take a more favourable view - it may work, but it will pi55 of the fans.

 

I hear a lot of moaning about the press, but so far NO ideas on how to effectively tackle it.

We ban them and tell the world WHY they are banned. They write and broadcast what they want anyhow so there's nothing lost there.

As said earlier, we also dig up what dirt they have themselves and go on the attack by officially stating we won't take lessons from maggots such as Spiers and Sutton.

We refuse club contact to any outlet employing them.

It may come as a shock to some Rangers fans but the rest of Scottish football despise us. That state of affairs came about because of the rubbish put out by our media.

The club becoming pro-active would be a beginning.

I would suggest a more appropriate action would be for 1872 to work with the club, compile evidence and have a meeting with the executives of those organisations to explain exactly what the problem is ,

The problem with that one as I see it Walter is, the club simply don't seem to want to work with anyone at addressing the issue. It's going on and on and the only time we hear from King and the rest is when the media are aiming at them personally. As I see it they couldn't give a monkeys about what is being said about the club or its fans.

Deleting the Record and others doesn't work. Those papers already know that Rangers fans have stopped buying it and now feel they have free rein to spout any nonsense they want to - it's not as if they will lose many more customers anyway. I don't have a single friend who buys the Record. It'll be out of business and printed from England soon. Personally I quit buying the Herald years ago when stinky started his garbage.

Mackay is subject to an FA probe, investigating texts and emails of a racist, sexist and homophobic nature.

The anti-discriminatory bodies didn’t miss Whelan who could now find himself in the dock alongside his manager.

Football Against Racism in Europe were among the many campaign groups who, quite rightly, took the pair to task.

Yet where was the outcry from bodies such as FARE when this month Aleksandar Tonev was hit with a seven-game ban by the SFA for racist conduct?

The Celtic midfielder was found guilty by an independent tribunal of abusing Aberdeen’s Shay Logan, reportedly calling him a “f*****g black c***.’

What happened to showing racism the red card?

There was not so much as a yellow from their executive director Piara Powar who is also on FIFA’s anti-racism task force.

Surely if you are the head of an organisation which vows to fight all forms of racism you cannot pick and choose which abhorrent acts to condemn.

And while not for one minute playing down the severity of Mackay and Whelan referring to Chinese people as “Chinks” surely, on a sliding scale, calling a fellow professional a “black c***” is far more offensive?

When John Terry and Luis Suarez were found guilty of similar racist offences Powar and his colleagues couldn’t have been any more critical.

Yet not a word when Tonev was found guilty of “excessive misconduct by the use of offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature”.

Regardless of the fact no hard evidence was presented – it was one Aberdeen’s word against Celtic’s – the case against Tonev was proved.

Last year former Rangers chief executive Charles Green was fined by the SFA for “offensive and racist comments” in an interview that referred to former Ibrox commercial director Imran Ahmad.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths also has a racism charge hanging over his head after being caught on camera singing inappropriate songs along with fellow Hibs supporters.

Again this seems unworthy of FARE’s intervention.

Powar’s name may be familiar to Rangers fans as his organisation was forced to deny claims of a “deliberate and targeted campaign” against the Ibrox club three years ago.

Rangers were disciplined, and correctly so, by UEFA after it emerged supporters sang sectarian songs during the home and away Europa League clashes with PSV Eindhoven.

On both occasions they were reported on the basis of submissions from FARE, rather than the UEFA match delegate.

At the time Powar said: “There are explicit suggestions emanating from Rangers FC of ‘a deliberate and targeted campaign against the club’.

“The FARE network is focused only on our core mission of tackling discrimination in football and encouraging social inclusion through the game. We have no axe to grind with any club.”

In 1999 Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso racially abused Nigerian striker Victor Ipkeba during a European clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Again the incident was not included in the UEFA delegate’s report but Powar, then with anti-racism group Kick it Out, demanded it be investigated.

Fast forward to 2013 and former Celtic player Paul Elliot had to resign from his positions within the FA and Kick it Out after he branded ex-Charlton defender Richard Rufus a “n****r” in a text conversation.

Powar was quick to ElliotÂ’s defence insisting: “I can understand the concern over the use of the n-word, whoever uses it, in whichever context.

“However, I cannot accept it is racist to use it between two friends and business colleagues in a private text.

“Racism and other forms of discrimination are not simply about words. It may be difficult for some to accept the difference between those words used with discriminatory intent and those that are not.”

But when the League Managers Association misguidedly dismissed Mackay’s comments, which were also sent by text and email, as friendly banter Powar’s private text argument suddenly didn’t hold water.

He tweeted: “Wow! The LMA defending the indefensible. Why would you put out something so utterly ridiculous? Because you haven’t a clue.”

Now this is not about Rangers and Celtic but about what is fair and what isn’t.

And when it comes to removing the ugly stain of racism it would seem FARE is not always FAIR. "

You made a lot of money for doing a good job with Rangers Richard. You are one of the ones we did not waste money on and for that we thank you.

But, when was the last time you paid to go to a Rangers match ? Is a Rangers forum the first thing you look at each morning ?

We know that Dave is one of your pals. We understand where you're coming from. But ffs, don't make it sound like a lecture. The manager will be judged by his own performance.

The above is what I would probably have written had I only read the headline and not then double read the text.

Gough is talking about his favourite subject - himself, and the story has been twisted by another probable hater.

To what end? It isn't going to stop anything only encourage it. The whole point of this style of shock journalism is to garner reactions by being provocative. Pasting it on sites that it is aimed at annoying is playing into their hands. In fact the only way it works is if we react the way they hope. It's as useless a tactic as staying completely quiet.

 

We need to stop them not get one up, the only way to do that is to prove without a shadow of a doubt it's on purpose and is aimed at encouraging potentially dangers reactions to make monetary gains for a struggling industry.

 

We need a clear strategic plan to mitigate the reaction therefore minimising the gains for them. Get the proof down on paper show how often these lies are being used to push paper sales then take the info too their advertisers and explain to them how their company is being seen as part of the problem by a huge section of their potential customers and their continued support will be reported to these potential customers as collusion . Attack the money and the circulation by using the their words and the consistency of their words against them. It will not work though without a professional and calm approach. Simply put we need to box smart not just counter box even as satisfying as that can be. That's not to say we shouldn't counter these lies ,of course we should, but it should always be in the persuit of highlighting their behaviour and ultimately stopping it from happening.

TB , I remember years ago what you have suggested there being proposed on another Rangers forum.

We got regular updates from members stating who they'd contacted, what they'd said, and whatever response they'd received.

It changed the square root of hee-haw. In fact things have got worse, much worse since that time.

We need somebody to stand up next time Mutton opens his mouth and remind the wider public about his comments after the Kilmarnock match when we won the league.

Every one of those maggots has something hiding in their cupboard - fire straight into them until embarrassment takes effect.

The double standards are blatant. Diella had his Ronny roar which was a real riddy EVERY SINGLE MATCH. Caixinha celebrates one match at the end of the season and he is attacked for it. It's disgraceful.

Boabie we've a million things to fix. Mudslinging with these cretins isn't one of them. It's just more bad publicity. It reflects and magnifies their stupid comments. Their employers will now think they're doing a good job because they are getting attention. That's their game. everythimg comes down to getting results on the pitch and every minute spent on activities that doesn't help that goal is a waste of time and effort. Rather than spend hours writing and agreeing and publishing this it would be better if they challenged the club on how to improve revenue streams from our own media channels or how to expand our fan base with positive interaction with kids or whatever. This is just negative. These emotive statements have to stop. Challenge in fact, libel, slander but ffs rolling around in the gutter with Sutton and Jackson is mental.

Walter, my point is - nothing - is being done. C1872 made a statement and are being criticised by some for it.

The Club have said nothing.

Maybe the Club think that because they've sold more season tickets the fans think they're doing a good job ? I suspect the Club are wrong and it won't be too long before the fans let them know that in no uncertain terms.

When the new lot came in I thought things would change. How wrong was I, eh ?

all that does is circulate the story and play into the Records hands. They are not trying to encourage us to read the paper they are aiming for the Rangers haters

 

We need a structured and well thought out plan. Playground name calling will achieve nothing. Pick a newspaper give it the full backing of the Rangers support by letting it become an official partner of the fans group on the condition it helps named members write positive pieces that when mutually agreed can be printed. That's a small first step in fighting the hatred out there

Mate, papers are dying on their erse. No paper is going to commit suicide by becoming a Rangers partner, even if we could find one willing to do that - other fans would simply refuse to buy it.

The statement from C1872 was long overdue. If it was up to me I'd put some foul-mouthed guy with a loud voice in charge of answering some of the bigots currently running our side down.

Give them back what they've been doing to us.
