  1. Great memory of a joke about Docherty it was the year that he compared Carthorse Forsyth to thoroughbred Channon, never forget Tam's tackle.

Was in old Rangers Club and Andy Cameron was on,he started a sing-song of Scottish tunes then said he had an anouncement that Scotland were appointing a new coach in Docherty they were taking his teeth out and putting in seats, only Andy could get away with that one.

I don't think Channon was the "thouroughbred" Mac. If I remember correctly Docherty was talking about Martin Buchan who'd been left out the team . Big Tam made one of the best tackles I've ever seen during that match.

  2. If he was sitting in the hall getting waitresses to serve him then I would not have seen what he was drinking but he used to stand at the bar in the corner regularly when alone and drank a half-pint of lager and a vodka and orange. I worked there for about 6-8 months probably around 1975. I had to stop because my wife got jealous of all the attention i was getting from other females. It was great being a barman there.:D

My mates and I must've worn out your shoe leather getting us drinks.

  3. I used to work in the Normandy at that time but I can't remember him drinking Champagne. it was mostly lager and vodka and orange that i served him. He also drank in the Renfrew Ferry bar and the story goes that he used to participate in vodka drinking competitions. I can't substantiate that though. Craig Davis the Normandy DJ used to drink a Sarsaparilla. He used to come to the bar and in his poofy voice would say" Can I have a Sarsaparilla please." Derek did often stand at the bar on a Friday night before a Saturday game having a drink.

My wife was a waitress at the Normandy at that time and I drank in the place. Champagne was a regular order for him and whatever crowd of lassies he had with him. His favourite record was Belfast by Boney M.

  4. Tommy Docherty said he would build the Scotland team around big Derek at CH, Docherty left to manage Manu pretty quickly though so I am not sure how many games big D actually played there.

Docherty was a dumpling Pete. Anybody who knew anything about Derek Johnstone knew , good centre half that he turned out to prove, the only reason he wanted to play there was because he was lazy and saw that all those nights in the Normandy Hotel guzzling champagne with fat sluts meant he could no longer hack it as a forward. Docherty is the last person I'd look to if I was evaluating a Rangers player. He detested us.

  5. Haha good point. Wish I had been with ya

It's probably the brain defence mechanism kicking in wanting me to forget last season. I must've seen the guy play but honestly can't even recall the name or anything about him. The only 2 games I clearly recall are the play-off matches and that's because I was on holiday at the time , got asked to leave a bar first game and had serious words with a couple of dirtybums second one.

  6. Their website says 6250 members. That's roughly 3 times the pre Administration level.

Obviously, if you're collecting subs from members of the public, your systems and processes have to be able to cope with routine requests like SBS', so his experience is very disappointing. However, we should never lose sight of the outstanding work the RST did to galvanise the wider support and help force regime change.

IMHO, if any Rangers related organisation deserves a bit of patience and understanding, it's the Trust.

The Trust receives my full patience and understanding MB. More power to their elbow as far as I'm concerned. But that doesn't change the fact that their communications are rubbish. In estimating the number of members I completely forgot the effect of the last 18 months. The Rangers support stepped forward and should be praised for digging into their pockets. When I mentioned member numbers dropping I meant pre-admin.

  7. We actually changed the website about a year ago and paid a lot of money for it. I agree with you though, it's crap. We were promised something that was all singing, all dancing. It's really disappointing and included an e-mail address that was going to nobody. We would do something about it but with the new fans group proposal it's probably not worth it. BTW our membership number haven't gone down.

Obviously I am not going to take an opposite position to yourself PLG's. You are in the perfect position to know about membership numbers. One thing I will say though, of the dozen or so close friends who joined along me with me I am the only one still standing.

  8. For God sake don't listen to Clyde phone - in then boabie. I chucked it years ago bro, the amount of so called gers fans who phone that and moan about us is unbelievable .....

Clyde phone in got binned more years ago than I care to remember mate. I also took great delight in cancelling my Glasgow Herald one day when the smelly one was still working for a living. Harbouring a grudge is something dear to me. There are radio shows I don't listen to, papers I don't read and football stadiums I will never see the inside of again simply because of what they have said about me and my friends. The hotline in the topic came about via Newsnow Rangers. Somewhere I'd expect to read articles about my club .

  9. I happened upon the Daily Record sports hotline earlier where Rangers, the only show in town were again the main topic of discussion.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sports-hotline-warburton-says-wont-7186596?

Having read it I began to wonder who, apart from Rangers fans could possibly be annoyed enough to pick up a telephone and waste time talking about a team he obviously doesn't support and probably more to the point, why the Daily Record would print what they had to say.

Lance Little from Erskine who wrote, “Once again we have total disrespect shown by Rangers to a player, his club and even their fans. Bidding outrageously low is insulting to both player and club and must be embarrassing to all associated to Rangers. If they really want a player, then as most people do when they cannot afford something, they must start to save up their pennies for him.” is no stranger to the hotline. Here he is previously, “Pot and Kettle stuff from Rangers who are looking for player protection as over the years it has been their players other teams needed protection from. Remember Lee “Elbows” McCulloch, Graeme Souness, Terry Hurlock, etc. If you dish it out you must be prepared to take it back and stop bleating. Poor little overpaid players getting bullied.” or earlier, “How refreshing to see a fair decision by the SFA in the Griffiths case. It’s obvious he is just a silly young boy who got caught up in the moment while out with his mates. Give him a break.”

Eddie Eason from Balingry who said, “The Breadman says he won’t be held to ransom. Get in the real world Warbs, your chairman said he was going to spend £30million. From this statement clubs will always want top dollar for their players.” also has previous. “The Scarlet Pimpernel arrives from South Africa and the hot air and sound bites start flowing. The gullible will fall for it again. Rangers owe Mike Ashley £5 million so just pay the man or are they going to try and dodge that like they did with the rest of their creditors?” Interestigly Lance also makes another appearance the same day on the hotline.

What is it with these guys ? Do they not have enough to worry about with their own club ? If you supported an under-achieving team, playing crap football and with a poor manager would you even take a second to consider the minutiae of what's happening at another team ?

  10. would have loved to have seen George melly dinging , the billy boys now there's a thought for any who saw the great man

I saw George playing in the Schlacthof [sp ?] jazz club in Frankfurt around 1980. Kenny Ball played there around the same time.

edit, he didn't play the Billy Boys.

  11. If that action had been taken at the beginning I'm sure everything would have been sorted out.

Being a newbie here Bear I had no idea that poster had any connection to RST. However, fans joining shouldn't have to also sign up to a Rangers forum to be able to make contact with the RST.

  12. No I am no asserting anything BH. I am basing what I have posted on the simple fact that given all we've gone through over the past few years I do not believe our current board want to get dragged into court for anything whatsoever, no matter how minor. The negative publicity alone would put the board and club up to scrutiny with the obvious effects as most of the scrutiny would come from the usual financial experts who hammer away on their keyboards while wearing green and grey. As you've maintained throughout the thread, the contracts will be there for examination and all will out eventually. The court hearing as I understand it is not to demand payment from Rangers but to attempt to ring-fence money in the event the company win their case. As said, all will out. I have faith that we are in the right here.

  13. I joined the RST more or less right at the start. Everything went fine at first but then went steadily downhill. While appreciating that some put in many many hours of work into the organisation their website is an absolute shambles and has been the same for years now. Despite assurances that work to improve things was ongoing nothing has changed. Their communications, apart from the circulars is a disgrace. I have no doubt that is the reason for the fall in membership numbers.

  14. I received an Email from Glasgow Pavillion;

"Celtic – The Musical is a brand new stage show that has been created by Alterean Media with the official backing and support of Celtic Football Club.

The story of the proud history of Celtic Football Club unfolds through the eyes of two families, united by their shared passion."

Featuring the songs that have rung round Celtic Park over the years Celtic "

I believe there are laws against glorifying terrorism so can we look for mass arrests taking place ? :whistling:
