I think that's a bit unfair. If you watch the interview with a champagne-soaked Gerrard with Emma Dodds after we collected the SPL trophy, Gerrard showed a determination to drive the team even further and spoke about the "promises" he'd received from the board. We missed out on CL qualifiers against a Malmo team we should have beaten. However domestically we were top of the league and had defeated Celtic 1-0 at Ibrox with a Covid ravaged team. The team that Gio took to the EL Final was basically Gerrards team (still a brilliant achievement by Gio). As for taking him back? I wouldn't but can understand why some would. It could turn out as well as Walter taking over from PLG, who knows (at least we might beat Celtic).

Whilst the landscape has changed, the consequences of "winning" and "losing" remain the same. Let's not forget, we managed to get to a EL final not so long ago. I'd go as far to say, if we had won that evening, it would have been the greatest achievement in our clubs history (given how the landscape has changed). It's gotten to a stage where our only legitimate hope is for Celtic to "feck up", that is totally unacceptable and unsustainable.

Agreed, but the "status quo" isn't an option unless we are willing to accept finishing 2nd (at best) for the foreseeable future. One or two more defeats (domestically) this month and attendances will fall off a cliff (not a major financial impact as 43,000 tickets have been paid in advance) but not good optically. All you state in your 2nd sentence above, was true pre Holmes / Souness. Football has changed significantly since those days, but the challenge is for the board to employ the correct people to move us forward both off and on the pitch. Their record in doing so thus far, doesn't give much confidence.
-
Whilst I agree with moat of what you say, there are also alarming similarities to the pre-Souness days. I just hope (that word again) and pray that there is a David Holmes like figure lurking somewhere within Ibrox, or waiting in the wings. However, even if there is, don't think / trust the board to find / promote / employ them.
-
Speaking with an old pal yesterday and they suggested we are back to the pre-Souness days both on and off the pitch. Initially I thought that this was a little overreaction but on reflection they may have a point. Just like in those bleak days we are HOPING for any improvement but with no real reason to believe itll happen and certainly no expectation that it will.

2nd top scorer this season and top assist suggest otherwise. -

Matondo out for 6-8 weeks. Glad we've gotten on top of these injuries....... -

Sweepstakes to see when Danilo really returns and when do we expect Dessers to keel over (having to play 3 games in a week for rhe foreseeable) -

Last season was £120 for 3 games, so I'm expecting £225-£250 this season. On a side-note, noticed CCCS has made a remarkable recovery now we're back at Ibrox! -
Does moving the St Johnstone game to a 8:PM Sunday Night kickoff count as a "fresh approach"?

People forget just how good McCoist and Hateley were as footballers and not just goalscorers. As I said above, fans have short memories. Both were fantastic football players as well as fantastic goal scorers
-
I rather like them, cuddly wee rascles that they are......
-
I wasn't comparing him to McCoist - he couldn't lace Allys boots. I gave MCoist as an example of how scoring 1 goal per OF game is unrealistic. In my time supporting Rangers, McCoist was the player I knew I could rely on to score against them and he did - but not at a goal a game. Dessers is what we have, comparing him to anyone is pointless - listing his strengths and weaknesses is pointless.
-
Did I say it was acceptable? 1 in 2 is exceptional, Dessers has played 1 full season. McCoist was ridiculed for years at Rangers, fans chanting for him to get to "fcuk". Fans have short memories.

Notice the B Team are playing Luton tonight - thought Igamane would benefit from some minutes but not in the team. Last I heard it was 3-2 to Luton after 70+ minutes.
-
Or not allowing a winger to get to bye-line, or not tracking his runner? I'm getting swayed here, useless bugger does f'all when you think about it.
-
Like not saving weakly hit shots from 30 yards out?
-
He'll not be the only striker in the world who is / was wasteful though, that's the point. He needs someone who'll supplement his 16, 18, 20 goals, like the example I gave relating to the season we won 55 - Morelos, DeFoe, Roofe, Kent, Hagi, Tav, Aribo, Arfield all chipped in.
-
A goal a game v Celtic? You do know McCoist "only" scored 28 in 54 games against them? You're asking the impossible there. Dessers goals have mostly been opening goals, equalisers and winners, he's scored in OF, EL and CL qualifiers. Scored 2 in a Scottish Cup Semi Final. He has only been here 1 full season. In that season he was 1st Rangers striker to score 20 league goals since Boyd and Miller. Maybe, just maybe if other players showed the same attitude and / or chipped in with their share of goals, then we'd be better off (remember McCoist had Hateley, Boyd had Miller etc)
-
So did Kenny Miller and a few others.
-
What's so confusing? Dessers scores goals end of debate.
-
I repeat myself due to old age 😀
-
Really, first I've seen you post that.
-
Exactly - typical of the Rangers support that when discussing lack of goals, the player(s) to blame are those who actually score the goals and not those who don't 😀
