I mentioned that there are many examples of us getting it wrong. What that points to is the club not having the correct people in charge of recruitment (historically and currently). All our issues lead back to those in charge of the club.

I don't think he would, but that's just a matter of opinion. You are correct that it would fit into the downsizing model the club is implementing.

Maybe so, but it shows players are out there. We also got "lucky" with Kamara, Sakala, Aribo and Bassey........

We unearthed Morelos for £1M - good scouting, great value for money and turned into our top goalscorer in European compitions.

It means he's not suited to holding play up or link-up play. What he can do is score goals when ball is in the box and he takes Hearts penalties. Other than taking penalties, it's Dessers mark 2 (on a lesser wage). Dessers was scoring goals when Clement first took over and this was down to us getting the ball into the area from wide positions. We now play the long-ball far too often which means we lose possession. In our current system Shankland would be as ineffective as Dessers.

I'll try and dig the stats out, but Shankland was the player who lost possession the most in the SPL last season (whilst being top scorer a d player of the year). I posted a few weeks ago Shankland isn't happy with / at Hearts and it was noticeable that he wasn't being selected earlier in the season. I said last season, neither Dessers or Shankland are what we require, neither good enough I my opinion. Dessers is what we have so it's up to the manager to create a system that gets the best our of him and the rest of the squad. His current system clearly isn't working and hasn't been since March. He changed something in March that resulted in our form falling off a cliff and he's been unable or unwilling to change it back.

Sakala was a win 100% agree.

But Shankland loses the ball MORE than Dessers. So if its not all about goals or retaining possession, why is Shankland a better option than Dessers? Simply lower wages and low transfer fee?

I thought we were getting somewhere under Gerrard and early Gio. Patterson, Aribo, Bassey and Kamara are 4 great examples of us getting it 100% right. There are obviously many others we got wrong, but the 4 mentioned above raised circa £40M-£50M for very minimal outlay. However, outwith those 4 there are very limited examples of success. Clement has signed 11 players and only 6 of those signings started Sunday's game.

Henry Smith used to drink in the Hewlett Packard Social Club in South Queensferry (think in lived in The Ferry) and once left the club in disgust when a sharp-tounged punter said to him "mind not drop that tray of drinks" as he walked away from the bar! He and Hamish McAlpine also appeared for one of the HP sports days for a "beat the goalie" compition. A younger, fitter Cammy F managed to beat Smith but not McAlpine. So you are correct, McAlpine was better than Smith 😉😄

So in summary our recruitment is at fault?

That's exactly it. Remove Dessrs and Lawrence and replace them with who? Dessers isn't a player who can play as a loan striker, yet the manager plays him as a loan striker and we expect it just to work or surprised and shocked it doesn't? The system needs changed to attempt to get the best out of the players we have.

And lost the ball more than any other player in the SPL list season. The very thing we slate Dessers for.

Two currently injured and one described on here as the baldy Capucho. Only one number 9 in that list and no number 10. So on Thursday we replace Dessers with an injured Danilo or Igamane who hasn't even registered a shot on target in Rangers shirt. We then replace Lawrence with an injured Matondo or move Cerny to number 10. Alternatively we could move Bajrami to his favoured 10, play Jefte wide left, Fraser at left back or play the perma-injured Roberto Carlos-esque Ridvan Yilmaz. I'm sure that'll solve all our goal creation / scoring problems.

So not creating as well as not scoring?
