Match Thread [FT] Motherwell 1 - 2 Rangers (Dessers 40; Bajrami 81)
CammyF replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Scotlands a bit cold for him apparently 😳 😃 -
I always liked Redford and he always scored important goals for us. It was a rough time being a Rangers fan in those days, somethings never change 😃
-
I always remember the 1984 League Cup Semi-Final V Dundee United. Lost the 1st leg 1-0 at Tannidice but won 2-0 at Ibrox in 2nd leg. Sandy Clark scored the first goal to bring the tie level then Ian Redford chipped McAlpine for the winner. 26min highlight package ;

But that's untrue - Clement has started Igamane twice, at home to Hibs and at home to St Mirren. He hasn't lasted past 45mins and looked miles off it in both games. He has shown some flashes in some games and scored in the EL but he looks what he is, a young, raw, inexperienced player. He isn't ready to lead our line. Dessers isn't ideal, but neither him nor Igamane are target men, so we need to adapt our tactics / style of play to play their strengths. Having both on may help and may throw some defences off. Clement has shown that he isn't going to change, so we are stuck with this until he's sacked or we get players in suited to this style of play. -

But Clement has tried Igamane but had to replace him at halftime (IIRC) in both games he's started. I'd start both Dessers and Igamane as neither can play as a loan striker. If it wasn't for Lawrence's goals away to DUFC and at home to Hibs we'd be 4 points worse off, that would have us below Motherwell in the league. Clement needs to try something new as neither of his fit strikers can play as a loan 9, so that points to a change of formation not just a change of personnel. However I have the feeling is too stubborn to change and we'll see the same players playing the same system on Sunday. As I said above, it just shows how poor out squad is -

Dessers won't sit this out as there is simply no other option. Danilo is no where near fit enough and Igamane is ineffectual when starting games (Hibs and St Mirren - he was withdrawn). Lawrence is a strange one as he offers a goal threat but little else. With no credible wide left options, Bajrami will continue there and Lawrence will continue at 10 unless Hagi is thrown in. The lack of quality / options shows just how poor our squad is (with current injuries). Welcome to downsizing (note that Aberdeen had 5 attacking options on Wednesday). -

Changes? We've nobody at the top to change! But you're right, we need the vacant roles filled before we sack Clement. -

I think the problem is that when the manager has changed things up, it hasn't worked and he's had to change it at halftime (Sunday and Wednesday are prime examples). This leads to the notion that whilst the starting 11 aren't great, we have very little depth to the squad. Given that, a change of formation may be the way forward. Get Dessers and Igamane in a 4-4-2 with Cerny and Bajrami wide / playing in and around the front 2. Current Motherwell will be looking at this game 99.9% sure how we will set-up and what our starting 11 will be and will play their game around this. The manager has nothing to lose, he's a dead man walking in the eyes of a growing number of fans. He needs to do something different and do it soon, for all our sakes and sanity 😃 -

When Pedro was our manager, he managed us for a mere 20 league games but managed to secure more points in these 20 games than Clement has in his last 20. That's with a squad that had Declan Joh, Jordan Rossiter, Josh Windass, etc. -

The lack of ambition or notion from the fanbase and the acceptance that we can't compete in this backwater is baffling. We had turnover of nearly £90M but have a board who've continually spent and recruited unwisely. Get the correct people running the club, get a manager who can motivate players, get a team that's capable of winning the majority of 30/34 games and we'll challenge every year. The team sitting in 2nd, who deservedly beat us and drew with Celtic at Parkhead cost less to assemble than we paid for Diomande. -

IIRC Beale was sacked for being 7 points adrift and Gio for being 9 points adrift (or vice versa). Gio was sacked in the run up to a League Cup semi final where we lost 3-1 to Hibs. PCs domestic record since Feb / March is horrific. -

I think Barron has done well for us but has struggled in the big games ; Parkheid, Lyon at Ibrox and now Pittodrie. He is young so hopefully he will progress (with better players around him, or better tactics). Jefte is another who is impressed and was "dropped" last night (I'm not believing the Sports Science stories) and a more "physical" player played in his place - this backfired. It was another questionable team selection from Clement and as Frankie mentioned, hos removing McCausland at halftime (and his record / habit of changing it at halftime) tells its own story. His subs were also questionable, as we ended up with 4 full backs on the pitch. Compare that to Sunday where he again started the.wrong team, but his changes (Dessers and Tav) changed the game and hugely contributed to our (narrow) win. I find it inconceivable that after 13 months in charge, or manager still doesn't know his best starting 11. -

He also said the correct people would be employed to take us forward - still waiting. If Bennent's "vision" was lost on fan media, then it isn't surprising it was lost on the support in general. It's glaring obvious that the current incumbents are clueless, dithering and continuing to hurt the club. However if you are willing to sit for another 2, 3, 5, 10 years and watch the cutting cloth and pain continue, fair play. Just don't be surprised if others don't and that's not entitlement or unrealistic expectations. -

We are at the stage that our best chance of finishing 2nd is if some club from the lower leagues in England have noticed what he's doing at Aberdeen and take him away. We have absolutely no chance of finishing 1st unless Celtic suddenly ceased to exist or moved away from this league. -

It shouldn't stop us challenging- we play in a backwater league, it doesn't require £20M to be sitting in 3rd 9 points adrift. You can manage to be 9 points clear of us by signing players from the likes of Livingston, coaching them well, getting a style of play that suits your players and getting them to buy into t. But your tight, stick with the current exec/leaders and the current manager and I'm sure we'll mount a credible challenge in the next decade or so. Apologies if that's self entitlement or unrealistic expectations. -

So this is now the Rangers standards? 4 titles in 18 years and regressing at an alarming rate? I don't think Rangers fans have unrealistic expectations, t self entitlement, I think the majority just want to see progression, an ability to challenge, young fresh players, a playing style we can get behind, a forward thinking board and exec who'll use the limited resources better, encourage and develop new investment etc. At the moment we have nothing. That's not self entitlement and expecting a expensive assemble team to be closer to the top of the table than to the bottom 6 isn't really unrealistic expectations. -

You can add Igamane at £1.7M to that list as well. Before anyone jumps in, not an attack on Igamane but the signing. When it was obvious we needed a striker to replace / supplement Dessers, we spent the best part of £2M on a player who is still miles away from being a 1st team regular. The board continually make the wrong appointments whether it be at "executive" level, managerial and recruitment. Or as it currently stands, leave these crucial positions unfilled. -

100% - he's spent circa £20M since arriving and doesn't play his own players. Propper cost more than the entire Aberdeen squad yet was sitting on the bench (same with Diomande). We are badly coached, have no playing style, weak, passive, slow and devoid of ideas. That's down to coaching and tactics. The manager said we needed to clear out the squad yet seems to trust players he's inherited over players he / Koppen signed. We ended up with 4 full backs on the pitch last night whilst trying to chase the game. Unreal.
