Frankie, we did think about that, but its the sheer bloody size of the thing that is putting us off - trying to find an enclosed space (wind free!) to lay the banner out is going to be hard and the lettering is going to be huge..... In saying that, if we can't get a printer, it'll need to be the paint-brushes! Anyone got Rolf Harris' phone number! Cammy F

Obviously aimed at me - I only printed what was in another newspaper - maybe its them that have the agends Cammy F

I can you name 6 areas in Glasgow / Edinburgh that locals would tell you to avoid at night. What does this prove? I have been to New York, New Jersey, San Fran, Los Angeles, Vegas and all over Florida and off course there are areas that are best avoided, just like there are areas of ALL countries that are best avoided. Very true but if someone said to you - 'Ive just been up to that shithole called Scotland. I was mugged 3 times, received a 'Glasgow kiss' and was racially abused'. Would that change your opinons of Scotland and the Scottish people? When it comes to people, I always see the best in them. I judge people on how they treat me, how the act, how the behave on an individual basis. There is no other way to live your life unless you want to generalise entire nations on SOMEONE elses opinion. IMHO, that is very narrow-minded. Very interesting point - Chick Young did a piece from the WC last night for Reporting Scotland and was basically saying that the German authorities were standing down Police officers as there had been very little trouble. He interviewed a female Police Officer and asked her about the 'English treoublemakers'. She replied that only 2 English fans had been detained and they were both for drink related offences. So, I would say that the English reputation that you are potraying isn't being seen by the German Authorities. Why should I if it goes against all the evidence I have seen for myself in my life? You obviously doen't listen to mine (on this topic), yet I've to listen to yours???? As for jumping to conclusions, I haven't - you have said that the English fans are more violent than the Scots and the fact that 15 people have been MURDERED at OF games doesn't changed your opinion implies that you have an agenda and that no matter THE FACTS, your opinion won't change (oh, and what exactly is a 'Glasgow Kiss' and why is it called a 'Glasgow Kiss'.). Did you watch the Lee Sharpe program prior to the World Cup about violence? If you did, you will see that a factual program displelled myth that England fans are anywhere near the worst for violence. But like you say, why let the TRUTH and FACTS get in the way of a rant. Everyone is opinionated on certain topics, especailly when it is about personal experiences. I can only go on the people I have met and I will say it again, I have met as many arses from Scotland as I have from other countries and nothing anyone says will change that opinion. Now, if I meet a group of English arseholes on this years break, then off course that will alter my perception. I too have had my opinion changed by you and many other posters on certain topics. When have I ever said we were the worst? Where have I ever indicated that we are worse than anyone else? All I have continually said, and will continue to say is that we have as mant arseholes as anyone else. And that includeds football fans... So 15 murders doesn't register on your scale of offensiveness and violence at football? Scotland casuals getting refused entry into France doesn't show that we have fans looking for trouble? The organised fights at the last Scotland v England internationals was all down to the English? The Scottish casuals wrecking a pub prior to the WC was all Englands fault? Ask people who follow Scotland Calscot and they will confirm that the Hibs, Aberdeen, Hearts, Dundee Unity etc casuals are all present at the BIG games - and I'll bet they aren't there for a picnic. Is it? Why then do Spurs, Chelsea, Man U, Man City, Millwall, Wrexham, Swansea and other English hooligan firms regularly travel up to Scotland to team up with Rangers, Craptic, Aberdeen, Hibs, Motherwell,Hearts etc for some action? Why to these English and Welsh firms now follow Scottish clubs in Europe? Why doen't you read Cass Tennents excellent ICF and 'Top Boys' book and see how violent the casual scene is up here. Now, this is the ICF's top lad who has travelled the world with West Ham and England and cites his encounters with Scotland (well, it was Rangers really) as his most violent. Why don't you read about him being invited to Bradford with Rangers and his experiences and tales of that day - these were printed in GQ. Now, he states that there was no trouble and that he had a brilliant day - but I don't want to cloud your judgement - read the article and see what you think. Another Englsih top boy tells of being invited to an OF game at Parkhead and he spent the day at The Louden (next street up from Parkhead) and stated it was worse than a Millwall Chelsea game. Watch Lee Sharpes program on world hooligans then you'll understand that the English and the Scottish are amateurs when compared to the Italians, Dutch, German, Turkish, Balkan and South American 'firms'. These guys are based on race, religion, drug cartels and are usually armed with guns at games. In the late 60's and early 70's Scottish fans were feared the world over. Rangers are still the only team to 'take' the Stretford End at Old Trafford and do I really need to go into the Birmingham and Chesterfield stories? And that is just Rangers, other top scottish teams have the same list of shame. As do the Scotland international fans - every 2 years they would wreck England at the Home Internationals. In the 80's Aberdeen and Hibs casuals regularly took on English firms, in their own back yard and would 'win'. Both still have a huge casual following and both still have major rucks at domestic and international games. The last OF game saw Rangers see off Craptic and Wrexham casuals before and after the game. This is been a 4 * yearly event now for the last 2 or 3 years. They will either meet on the outskirts of town, or they will meet in the city centre. IIRC, last year, the Merchant City was wrecked and brought to a standstill thanks to rioting OF fans. There is now a growing number of casuals in Scotland and Rangers have their 'boys' as well. Just because the violence rarely errupt at the ground doesn't mean that it doesn't happen Cammy F

If anyone from GersNet is using the Gers Forums (or if Frankie and or Stu are speaking to the guys) can you ask them where they got their banner printed? We are still looking for a printer for the new GersNet banner so any help these guys can offer will be most appreciated. Cammy F

Aye, pretty expensive for a friendly given the fact that the gaffer hasn't received much of the money we've pumped in via season ticket sales and the 'promised' CL and 'other' money for transfer. Caught in two minds here - really want to go and see the gaffer and new players but really not willing to pay £17 pounds for a meaningless friendly played in a half-empty (or half-full!) Ibrox. Where did I say I didn't like it? I have visited Canada and US on many occassions and would say that they have an equal reputation. The vast majority of both nationalities have been decent people. I have met many decent Germans as well as Czechs. Oh, and I don't go around the world baing my opinions of others on some 'mysterious reputation'. I treat everyone equally and base my opinions on each individual no matter their nationality. Why would I let someone elses opinion change my viewpoint? Is your opinion any better than mine? Just because I have a differing opinion, I must be wrong? Maybe Rab C was right and maybe, you are wrong - or maybe we both are entitled to our opinions? Does it? Here is your romantic Scottish image coming thro again. This wee country is a cesspit of racism. Ask the muslims, the jews, the english, the pakis (sic) and the chinks (sic) etc if we are friendly and respectful nation. If we are, why are the BNP on the rise up here? Why did the NF have its headquarters in Dundee? Why is the BNP trying to open offices in towns like Falkirk and Livingston? And why is racist crime rising 11% per year in Scotland? We, as a country are ravaged by sectarianism and racism - you might not realise it, but denying it doesn't mean its not evident to others. Cammy F

The English disease and who exactly calls it that Calscot? Do you watch European and world football? There are more arrests, more violence, more murders etc at games involving Scottish, Italian, Turkish, 'Balkan', South American, German, Dutch etc than English fans (certainly in the last 10 years). Will I? Other posters have experienced this first hand as well. Calscot, the number of 15 deaths in 10 years was a figure given by one of Strathclydes top Policemen at an anti-sectarian event. Why would he make this up? Why would he then go on to say that 8 of those murdered supported Rangers and 7 supported Craptic? Maybe the policeman involved was 'like me' and wanted to disparage this country? Or maybe, just maybe he knows more about this subject than you or me? One pervert? This happens regularly - it was widely reported at France 98 and I seem to remember a report in one of the rags a few years ago saying that this behaviour had to stop. Might be wrong there tho, maybe I just dreamed up reading it. Also, I think MOST if not all of us has seen a Scots fan, wearing a kilt, flashing his 'man-hood' at one point or another. Whether we chose to confirm and condemn this is another matter. Cammy F

A letter published in The Herald - well done to the Bear who submitted this ; I'Nuremberg rally' has no place in football I write this after having read Graham Spiers' diary piece regarding his experiences in Nuremberg - especially in the Zeppelinfield which, as we all know, has notoriety in the annals of history. I am actually quite pleased Mr Spiers wrote an eloquent article describing his personal emotions when gazing out over the awesome arena and the images which must surely have flashed in to his head at that precise time. He wrote: "Zeppelinfield looks exactly the same as it did in the infamous photographs from the period, with the large concrete podium at the top of the arena from where Hitler shrieked, looking out over a 400-metre parade ground where the stormtroopers marched. "It is the most moving, and disturbing, spot in which I have found myself writing about sport." Until this last paragraph, I didn't feel the need to comment. Hopefully now after having visited the Zeppelinfield Mr Spiers will finally appreciate why so many Rangers fans, including those from the Jewish faith, found his light-hearted comments about Ibrox resembling a "Nuremberg rally," not only distasteful but downright insensitive and deeply hurtful. What? I din't start a post about me not being Scottish. I started a post about what it takes to be classed as Scottish. IMO I am much of a Scotsman as anyone on this forum... Oh, btw, that makes 5 threads now... Cammy F

Knicked from another forum, but worth a read... The Scottish Press, right on the button again; " Rangers have turned to France in their search for a successor to Alex McLeish, with former Monaco boss Didier Deschamps high on their list of candidates. On a day when the name of sought-after ex-Lyon manager Paul Le Guen was also optimistically thrown into the mix, World Cup winner Deschamps emerged as a serious contender to take over at Ibrox." Stephen McGowan, Daily Mail, November 12, 2005 "Paul Le Guen's agent last night insisted the French manager would rather continue in his sabbatical role as a television consultant than take up the reins at Ibrox when Alex McLeish is officially relieved of his duties. Frederic Guerra's sneering dismissal of any interest in assuming the Rangers manager's position will come as a blow to the Ibrox club's prestige." - Roddy Thomson, Sunday Herald, November 13, 2005 " The mid to late-1990s was a high watermark in terms of Rangers' international status - everyone knew they had serious money to spend - but they are no longer at that level and even if their aspirations extend to a managerial star such as Paul Le Guen it may be that for practical reasons someone such as George Burley emerges as a more realistic appointment." - Michael Grant, Sunday Herald, November 13, 2005 " If it is to the continent that Murray looks, then Paul Le Guen has obvious attractions. Yet, the recent hefty betting on the Frenchman becoming only Rangers' second foreign manager would appear to be money less than well spent. The former Lyon coach, who speaks little English, has already turned down offers from Lazio, Valencia, Monaco, Benfica and Stuttgart. After winning the title in each of his three seasons at Lyon, he is understood to seek a posting where he can forge a lean and hungry side from a small squad of young players on short contracts. That hardly describes Rangers at present. Le Guen is likely to have little enthusiasm for being tasked with a rebuilding job that would require him to move on a clutch of senior players who may prove resistant to leaving their Ibrox comfort zone." - Andrew Smith, Scotland on Sunday, November 13, 2005 " The chemistry of the current Rangers squad is flawed, but a new Rangers manager will not have pots of money to spend on new players. If Paul Le Guen is fully aware of the Rangers situation, he might find the club a deeply unattractive proposition. It is for this reason that some of us believe [David Murray] will unveil an unspectacular name as McLeish's successor." - Graham Spiers, The Herald, December 3, 2005 " Personally, I believe Le Guen's coming to Rangers would be a coup for the club, for David Murray and for Scottish football . . . of that there is no doubt. Some of us, though, will believe it when we see it." - Graham Spiers, The Herald, February 16, 2006 " Eerily, for some Rangers supporters, the name of Paul Le Guen seems to have disappeared from our radars over the past few days. Even Rangers chairman David Murray's favourite media outlets have stopped spouting the Frenchman's name at every turn, which history tells us is usually the first sign that something ominous is afoot. Speaking personally, I am one of many who hope that Le Guen does pitch up at Ibrox, simply for the fascination and drama of having this respected coach around us in Scotland and seeing what he can do. Only a dullard would not feel the thrill of Le Guen coming to Rangers. Yet I am starting to doubt that it will happen. Having watched Murray and his way of doing it at Ibrox for years, there are familiar signs afoot that all might not be well. With every passing day I worry that Le Guen sees better things on his horizon." - Graham Spiers, The Herald, February 21, 2006 " Paul Le Guen's expected move to become manager of Rangers was last night thrown into doubt as it emerged the Frenchman is considering an offer to boss the Cameroon national side. MailSport can reveal the President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, called Le Guen on Friday to make him an attractive proposal to succeed outgoing Lions gaffer Artur Jorge. This latest move appears to be a major threat to Rangers' chances of landing the highly rated Frenchman." - Mark Guidi, Sunday Mail, February 26, 2006 " Rangers' hopes of landing Paul Le Guen could be sunk by a struggle to find a French school for his kids. He had hoped to place them in a Glasgow-based private French school but was stunned to discover the nearest suitable place was in ABERDEEN" - Ewan Smith, Sunday Mail, March 5, 2006 ----------------------------------------------- Cammy F

I can't stand 'scetions' of the TA - not ashamed to say as much. IMO they (the section I don't like) are loathsome creatures who do respect anyone else culture (as France 98 showed and the recent arrest in Germany) and who have an anti-English attitude that is racism (pure and simple). I do wear tartan with pride - however, the See You Jimmy wig is an 'insult' to out national dress IMO. also, kilts are for formal occassions, not football and there is a correct way to wear a kilt. I'll bet 99% of the 'TA' wear it wrongly. We've been here before. There is nothing wrong with it - even the Scots who do it. However, a section of the TA think that acting like this makes them MORE Scottish and those who don't do it, LESS Scottish. I bet the Aussies, Swedes, Dutch etc who do this think NO LESS of those who don't. The TA, use it as a measure of Scottishness rather than a fun way to display your support for your country. I don't think it is - IMO Rangers fans who support Scotland leave their domestic team at home when they follow Scotland (as they should). However, the others don't - how else can you explain the booing of Rangers players by the TA and the 'We Hate Rangers More Than You' chants in Dublin? Oh, if any Rangers fans indulged in the above, they are not Rangers fans IMO. That is the exact attitude I was talking about. If being racist makes the TA one of the best supports in the world, I am glad I stopped following Scotland. Cammy F

So as a Scotsman I can't defend England? As a Scotsman I can't state the obvious problems Scotland has in a footballing sense and in a general sense? Sorry if that doesn't make me a Scotsman in your eyes... Cammy F
-
Yes, why? A flasher is a flasher is a pervert no matter where they come from... Cammy F
-
Unbelievable - how do you know this Calscot? Did you question the TA members who boo'ed anthems? The most rediculous thing I've read for a long time Calscot. Thats the 2nd most rediculous thing I have read - I've heard Scots (and English) refer to Spaniards as 'Spicks', Pakistanis as 'Pakis' and Chinese as 'Chinks'. Not to mention the names Scots have for Jews, Muslims and blacks. I have watched Scots (and English) pishing in public abroad, I've seen Scots (and English) abuse locals, I've seen Scots (and English) steal from local shops etc..... In my travels, I have met as many arses from Scotland as I have from England (and other countries). I've also met nice people from all over the world. To say England has a monopoly on idiots is just idiotic. Cammy F Cammy F

I don't make up the German Statute Laws Craig. If flashing your knob is treated as rape in Germany, then maybe the 'fan' should have thought of that before flashing. Neither to be perfectly honest, but if I had me god-sons / god daughter with me, if someone flashed their knob, I'd personally hit them over the head with a fuckin bottle... Cammy F
-
So a charge of rape and assaulting a policeman (he bit him ffs) should just be put down as a 'drunken' incident? Gribz, the nationality of the woman in question wasn't printed, but after France 98, I'd have thought the TA would have learned their lesson. In some cultures, flashin' you knob is possibely the worst thing you can do. But hey, why should we respect other cultures if it means we can not flash our knobs when we want to, eh? As for me being anti-Scottish that is UTTER PISH - I am as proud as anyone to be Scottish and would never question anyones national pride, unlike some. Its just that I don't think you need to dress up as Russ Abbott and flash your knob at people to make you Scottish. Its just that I realise that Scots are as violent as the English (or Irsih, or Welsh, or German, ot Italian, or Turkish,or South Americans) when it comes to football. 15 deaths at OF games in 10 years says it all really. IMO, The TA are the Tims or international football - they believe they are the best when they aren't (look at the support for the Soth Koreans as an example) and they believe that everyone loves them whilst eveyone hates their greatest rivals. Cammy F

Wasn't aimed at you Gribz, but plenty others 'adopted' T&T tho.. Cammy F

Actually, one for flashing his knob at a child / woman - he *may* face rape charges... Cammy F

So where is your loyalty to the T&T's...... Jeez, as changable as the weather so yous are..... Cammy F

Hey, don't shoot the messanger - it's front page news, so I thought that I'd post it...... Cammy F

So surely the TA are 'ever xenophobic' as well then... Cammy F
