  1. So its everyones fault apart from Boyds? What is WS to do? Try different formations, different players, different strips until we eventually win a game that Boyd scores so some can say, see told, if we get everything right, Boyds the man????? Simply don't understand what you are saying. WS had a plan and formation that turned us from being easy beat to being hard to beat - ultimately, it wasn't good enough to win us the league. We've been 2nd and 3rd best for 3 years now, 2 of which Boyd played the majority of games. Cammy F

The blame is shared - defence not mean enough, especially at the end of the season - the midfield depleted by injuries so we had no width, and the strikers, Botd included who couldn't put the games out or reach, or score that important goal to win us games. So, not soley the fault of Botd, but he can't escape his share of the blame and people are allowed to believe (rightly or wrongly) that he isn't a great player. Cammy F
  3. We tried playing 4-4-2 and it didn't work - we left ourselves open to fast paced attacking SPL teams. IMO if we'd played 4-4-2 in the SPL we would have ended up further behind than we did. I have said on the other thread that we need vast improvement and that doesn't just relate to Botd, we need improvement throughout the team. Cammy F

Even if his 'goals' aren't enough to win us the league? I'd prefer to have a player scoring less goals that won us games than a player who'll score for fun when we are winning but can't get us the important goals that turn 1 point into 3. Serious question, if Celtc win the league for the next 4-5 seasons (GOD FORBID) and Boyd was to score say 30 goals each season, would you still be happy? Second best isn't an option for Rangers and currently we don't have the players to make us champions, that has to change. Cammy F
  5. That I would agree on - McDonald isn't far behind him on that front tho.... Not if playing to his strengths makes us an easier team beat. Cammy F
  6. So you believe that Boyd can hold up the ball, can run in behind defenders, can score from all areas of the pitch, has the fitness to harrass defenders, chase back, keeps himself onside more often than not, can control the ball and turn on a sixpence? If you do, you've been watching a different Rangers team from me in the last 3 seasons. Cammy F

If his overall game didn't improve, I'd be saying the same as I am now.... What would you say if Boyd was sold to Cardiff, spent most of the time on their bench and seen out his career in the 2nd or 3rd tier of English football? Would you still claim he is a great player? I make no apologies for saying that Boyd isn't and doesn't look like developing into a 'great player'. He is a dencent, run of the mill SPL centre forward - nothing more, nothing less. There are 100's of better players out there and 100's of worse players. Cammy F
  8. Jon, it isn't anti-Boyd rubbish - some have an opinion that can be backed up that Boyd isn't and never has been the best striker in Scotland - I would agree with Pete, at this moment in time, McDonald is a BETTER player than Boyd. Cammy F

Don't think that I have ever claimed that Boyd is 'pish', but he is not a great player either - he can't be mentioned in the same breath as past greats like Colin Stein, Derek Parlane, Derek Johnstone, Gordon Smith, Ally McCoist, Mark Hateley, Rod Wallace etc. In fact, he'd be behind players like Drinkell, Negri, JJ, MoJo, Darche, Prso et al Cammy F

What Boyd lacks is the ability to control the ball, keep hold of it, buy some time, gain free-kicks, pace to get in behind defenders, the ability to turn and shoot (and score) from angles and outside the box. He lacks the ability to defend from the front, he can't hunt down defenders forcing them into errors, he can't remain onside when playing the lone strikers role, he can't jump and gain the ball without conceeding free kicks and he doesn't have the fitness to chase back. Apart from that, he's got all that it takes to make the grade. Cammy F
  11. IMO, Boyd has been nowhere near the 'best' striker in Scotland - and he's as far away from being the best striker as he's ever been. Cammy F
  12. NAh, like the vast majority of players that leave Rangers, Boyd's career will go 'down-hill' - he'll end up alongside Stevie Thomspon at Cardiff or somewhere similar. Cammy F
  13. To be fair to RUN DMB, it was a horrific injury and one sustained whilst he was cementing a staring place in the team. I was impressed with what I saw from Beasley last season, especially in Europe - he offered genuine pace and could keep the ball, create chances and get set-pieces in our favour. He also, IMO put in a MOTM performance in the Scottish Cup Final where he once again looked fast and created and scored a goal. I hope / think that he'll be a big player for us next season. Cammy F

Aye, and if Boyd stays he'll benefit from the Kenny Miller factor - i.e Miller will split the fans even MORE than Boyd Cammy F
  15. Thats a very BOLD STATEMENT - I'd settle for Boyd becoming the best striker in the SPL. Cammy F

I'm hoping we are going to play 4-3-3 in domestic games and 4-5-1 in Europe and 'tough' away games. I haven't seen an improvement in Boyd's overall game since the day he signed, in fact, under PLG he looked disinterested and I thought that Ally and Walter would be able to bring more out of Boyd, I don't think they have. In fact, it says something about his overall ability that WS doesn't trust him as a lone stricker and only plays Boyd in limited spells. I don't think Boyd is worth more that £3M in todays transfer market. If Boyd leaves Rangers, he'll join an English Championship side or a newly promoted club like WBA. As I said, I'm not losing sleep over whether he stays or goes - but if his transfer fee can be used to IMPROVE another area, I'd sell him tomorrow. We urgently require 2 creative midfield players, a (fit, expereinced and under 40!!!!!) centre-half and both a right and left back. Cammy F

Jon, with all due respect, the finals were against DUFC and QoS - I don't think Boyd would have scored doubles if both finals were against say Celtc, Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts etc... He hasn't improved his game since he signed for us, he can't play as a lone striker and looks lost in our preferred 4-5-1 system. He looks 'unfit' and there are constant rumours regarding his personal life. If WS changes formation nexy season and plays 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 then Boyd could become a regular. However, with 3 forwards signed already, looks like he isn't going to be a regular started next season. Given that, if we could generate £3M plus from selling him, we could use that money to buy a creative midfield player or a badly need right and left back. Cammy F
  18. If McGeady is sold, the Tims will sign McFadden as his replacement. I would take him, but can't see us getting him - especially at the money B/Ham want and the fact that the tims are also interested - he'd chose them over us. Cammy F

Boyd does score goals, but they tend to be when we are winning comfortabley - I can't remember too many games where a Boyd goal was the winning goal especially against the Tims, or in Europe. You can not mention McCoist and Boyd in the same breath - McCoist was also a football player as well as a 'goal-getter'. You could also rely on McCoist to score you a winning goal on a consistant basis as well as banging in hatricks against the likes of Falkirk. I don't personally rate Boyd and I am in the 'don't mind if he stays, don't mind if he's sold camp'. Cammy F
  20. We would be a poorer side without Barry Ferguson - as for him standing up and being counted, that is true of not only Barry, but those around him. Football is a team game and we need all 11 delivering consistantly, Cammy F
  21. Wasn't it sung by that lanky bloke from Gregory's Girl? The B side to Ally's TA was the best - I wanna be a punk rocker (but ma mammy willny let me).... Cammy F
  22. Have heard that we are looking at Romanian Nicolae Mitea from Ajax - maybe Pete can give us a low-dwon? Fee in the region of 4mill Euros Cammy F
  23. Everyone will have, and are entitled to their thoughts regarding the return to Rangers of Kenny Miller. Iââ?¬â?¢ve heard Rangers fans claim that they are against this signing for varying reasons : he played for Celtc, the way he ââ?¬Ë?over-celebratedââ?¬â?¢ his goal against Rangers whilst playing for Celtc, and the one I plump for, he just isnââ?¬â?¢t good enough. Now, I hope, for the clubs sake, that Miller proves me, and a whole lot of other Rangers fans wrong. I hope in 12 months time that I am sitting here admitting to eating humble pie, however, I have my reservations. Kenny Miller is a ââ?¬Ë?run-of-the-millââ?¬â?¢ player ââ?¬â?? nothing more or nothing less. Kenny Miller, in my opinion found his level at Hibernian and that isnââ?¬â?¢t meant as a slight on the Edinburgh club, or Miller himself. Miller then found himself in the spot-light when Dick Advocaat bought him and then decided not to play him every often. Walter Smith and his backroom staff obviously rate Miller highly, as we as a club are no longer in the position to pay Ã?£2M for a squad player ââ?¬â?? Kenny Miller has been bought to spearhead our attack next season, of that there is no doubt. So, the question is, is Kenny Miller better than anything we currently have at Ibrox, or any other striker that is within our ââ?¬Ë?budgetââ?¬â?¢? To me, the answer is NO. Is Kenny Miller the player to shoot us to the SPL title? Is Kenny Miller the player that could have nicked us a goal in Eastlands Stadium to clinch the UEFA Cup? Nothing that I have witnessed from the striker tells me he is. In fact, I would argue that Kenny Miller isnââ?¬â?¢t a striker who could have won us 2 domestic cups competitions this year (and regular readers will know my feelings on Kris Boyd). In my opinion, the signing of Miller shows the diluted ambitions of our great club. I read a worrying, but very accurate description of Rangers on another website where a poster described Rangers as ââ?¬Ë?the smallest big club in the worldââ?¬â?¢. It seems that no matter how we do on or off the pitch, our current custodian downsizes our ambitions and chances of success year after year. This season we came tantalizingly close to a historic quadruple and with a little investment and an improvement in our squad, we would have taken significant strides over the close season and hopefully signed the players required to take that extra step in the SPL and UEFA Cup. However, it appears that any player leaving Rangers will no longer be replaces by someone of greater ability (another broken Murray promise). As a club, we made over Ã?£30M from our run in the CL and UEFA Cup and cashed in on Alan Hutton to the tune of Ã?£9M. Not for one moment am I suggesting that all of this money should have been given to the manager, but a significant amount should be released to ensure that next season we can win the SPL and maybe, just maybe, go one better in Europe. Watching Holland last night served as a stark wake-up / reality call for me. Watching Gio reminded me of the players that we once had, players with genuine pace, genuine guile and genuine pace. Players who could win you games and players who are everything we are currently lacking. Van Bronkhurst was never going to spend his entire career at Ibrox, but was an outstanding talent who has developed into a true international class footballer. It is worth remembering that Brian Laudrup cost Rangers Ã?£2.5M, Gazza, Mols, Negri cost in the region of Ã?£4M (each), all of whom are far more exciting than any player we are currently being linked with. We simply canââ?¬â?¢t afford to purchase more ââ?¬Ë?squadââ?¬â?¢ players this summer. We have the basis of a decent squad, but we need genuine prospects / players to supplement these players. However, if SDMââ?¬â?¢s track record is to continue, we are likely to see more Kirk Broadfoots (again, no disrespect to Kirk) than Giovanni Van Bronkhursts. In essence, this is the sorry story that the resigning for Kenny Miller reemphasises to this Rangers supporter and this will never change until the current custodian is removed from his post. As for Kenny Miller, like every Rangers player before him, he will receive nothing less that 100% backing from myslef when ever he pulls on that Rangers jersey but I have a feeling that he, even more that MoJo will split the Rangers support. But that is another topic for another thread. Cammy F ââ?¬â?? Support The Dublin Loyal - We Are The Peopleââ?¬Â¦.

  25. Some rumours I had confirmed or heard over the weekend : Miller and Lovenkrands are done deals McGregor to Spurs for £7M PLUS Robinson (that one I don't believe, especially with the figures quoted) Cousin and Davis in a straight swap deal - but with several EPL clubs sniffing around Davis, this is nowhere near a done deal. Shittu from Watford - we have made contact and this is a goer - will depend on fee + wages Stevenson from Hibs - we are deffo tracking this lad and deal is expected Make of this what you will.....!
