I wonder how much money Rangers spends in a year, on a week by week basis, on the salaries of player who are injured or otherwise not available?

Ofoborh, Helander, Hagi, Roofe, Jack, Goldson, Souttar, Morelos, etc, etc.

And how is this trending over time?

I've no idea how you would access this sort of information but I imagine the sums are eyewatering.

Somewhat unfair to lump Goldson into that list Bill. He's hardly missed a game for Rangers in 4 years until now. I get your point though. Eyewatering is an understatement.

  2. I can't be too critical about tonight TBH. IMO we are playing a potential CL favourite and after 4 games of utter capitulation in the CL, we were braver on the ball and showed more endeavour. That's all I wanted tbh. We were still miles off the pace but let's be honest, even during our EL run our away performances were dire (Dortmund aside), so this comes as no surprise.

    Positives for me...

Young King getting valuable game time in the CL versus a quality team.

    Yilmaz looking positive and energetic.

  3. Good to see an improvement in overall effort and being brave on the ball. We're still miles off it but they've had 3/4 attacks of note and scored 2. They are a class team and we need to keep going. Subs will be crucial. Take note Gio. Use them wisely.

Ah, we're wearing orange.  That changes everything - I fancy us to win tonight.

Oh for an away strip with actual Rangers colours....

Sets up a potential headline...Oranges Squashed?

I liked Balogun but was he any more than useful?

He was often injured, struggled to play 2-3 games in a week and wasn't entirely reliable in a defensive sense. I'm happy enough we moved him on and have decided to develop King instead.

A wee bit harsh on big Leon Frankie. I think he was definitely more than useful IMO. We could be doing with his telescopic legs tonight.

What exactly would we go out swinging with ?

We struggled to break down Dundee and Livi at home .

For this Rangers team at the moment, going out swinging would be an increase in effort, desire, bravery and forward intent.

Only the most goals ever conceded in the Champions league .

But yes, you're right we should do something different, ...defend.

Who cares at this stage? Whether it's 20 goals or 25 goals, we're out of our depth. At least go out swinging.

  8. I can't see anything other than a good old fashioned going over on Wednesday. With that in mind, surely this is a free hit for Gio? Change the dull and predictable set up and go with 2 up top? Maybe a 3-5-2? At this stage, we basically have nothing to lose. At least show the fans that you're trying something different.

If Kemar Roofe is fit then he must start tomorrow, even if we only get an hour out of him.

Roofe is one player we have with a football brain in his head who can see the game in front of him. His decision-making in the final third is better than anyone else we have which is a major failing for us at the moment.
Could he play the wide right role not properly filled since Candaeis left? Colak playing thro the middle

Would like to see us shuffle the pack and try a 4-4-2. It may be unfashionable but the current set up looks stale in my opinion.

4-4-2 with full backs providing width plus middle diamond. Kent playing deeper as an inside left with the box in front of him as opposed to being stuck on the wing.

    -------King------Davies------

    Tav---------------------Borna

    -----------Lundstram---------

    -----Tillman----------Kent----

    --------------Arfield----------

    ---------Roofe-----Colak-----

  10. I'm hoping the WC will derail any momentum the Tims have and in turn will give us time to reset and get viable options back in the squad. A fit Goldson, Hagi, Roofe and Lawrence will undoubtedly make a difference to our options for the 2nd half of the season. This however is dependent on being within touching distance to them.

It's not that old. It's skewed by two players around 40.

A team out of form is his fault.

The injury record is partly chance, but it's also down to the fitness/conditioning coaches.

In short, I maintain that another manager would be able to get more out of this team.

With regards to injuries, Jack, Roofe, Helander and Souttar all had pretty poor injury records prior to joining Rangers.

2 points off the leaders after 10 games, qualification to CL secured and now into semi-final of the League Cup. Have we sacked a manager previously who could claim the above?

We often say that player wise, you build from a position of strength, but with managers it's the opposite.

Gio has the look and sound of a beaten man, but what are the alternatives?

Would any other manager be able to get any better out of an aging, out of form and injury ravaged squad?

We missed the boat after 55 and appear to be unable to release the funds required to add genuine quality to the squad and changing manager won't solve that issue.

I have to agree. As long as we stay within touching distance with the tims up until the WC break, we won't be changing managers.

  13. Nothing will change at the moment if we are only 2 points behind (regardless of performances). If we stumble to WC break (a very big IF) with full points, we are effectively one game from going top. My hope is that we could regroup during the break and get players back. Use it as a reset and start again.

Last night's match almost bored me to death.

To be honest the League Cup is a tedious distraction and it's low key, zero intensity nature has always bored me to death. No excuses though. We seem to adopt this mindset in League games to.
