Goalkeeper doesn't have to handle the ball he can use his feet and his brain .

The ball has to keep the ball moving though and that can cause problems. Look at Loris in the the WC final. Back in the day the keeper could hold it for a time, drop it and slow the whole game down. Removing this has been one of the best changes in football over the last 20 years

Our manager is steeped in the Liverpool traditions so let's play like the reds of the 70s soak up the pressure and hit them on the break .

That can't be replicated due to the back pass rule. The Liverpool team of the 70's and 80's were masters of killing time away from home with back passes to the keeper.

I think it is great for us - raises our profile once again and inflates his price.

It also shows other South Americans that you can get a call up for your country whilst playing for Rangers.

Fair points but I was thinking purely from a playing perspective

Fantastic for the lad.  And vindicates the work the management team have done to get his head back in the game.

    Thoroughly deserved Alfredo!

Fantastic for him but is it good for us? If he is a regular he will be required to travel on a regular basis to South America for their forthcoming fixtures/competitions. That has an adverse effect on players (look at the EPL)

  5. I don't want to get into this tbh but I had to laugh at the idea of Frank McCaveety fighting our corner? Are you having a laugh? If he was still at GCC he would hace tossed this application in the bin with his lunch wrappers then pissed on it. He's only doing this to ruffle the feathers of the SNP council as Labour are still smarting as losing their "jobs for lives" position at GCC.

This is a big part of what I find annoying about it. It's just a fact that no team had to play 3 away games in 4, we should all be playing home-away-home-away.

But even hypothetically if any team had to, why on earth should it be 1 of the 4 teams representing Scotland in Europe during this period? As you've said, brings back memories of 2008, other countries do whatever they can to help the teams representing them in Europe but in Scotland, if anything, they make it as hard as they can for us.

And do you think we'd have been clinging on to 1 goal leads in those games if we were at Ibrox? I don't think so. If we were given home-away-home-away like everyone else we would have been facing Aberden at Ibrox.

I still don't see your point? If we are to be successful or even have a chance of winning the league we need to win as many games as possible. If we had 4/5 away games at the start of the season, I would be raging but we don't. And do all fixtures have a home/away even spread? For example, we play 2 consecutive home games in Sept. (Dundee, St. Johnstone) It's never home/away/home/away.

I enjoyed the Physicality of it yesterday,  however we got caught up in it, thus playing into Murderwells hands. Coming out for the second half we lost most of our shape and played far to deep, ultimately paying the consequences for that. Yes try and handle the physical side to an opposing team tactics, but never forget the beautiful side of the game to, we forgot that yesterday, but i'm positive we'll learn from it.

I don't mind a bit of physicality but IMO Motherwell took it too far (hand round Lafferty's throat for example). I had to laugh when I heard Radio Scotland saying it was a "good advert" for Scottish football. The tactics deployed by Motherwell (5/6 brutes chasing 1st and 2nd balls) were positively prehistoric and should be consigned to the past. If that was a good advert for Scottish Football, no wonder we are in the mire as a footballing nation. I would also like to see their reaction if it was us that deployed such obvious physical tactics. I'm quite sure Mr English and Mr Gordon would have been less complimentary

    Remember Helicopter Sunday?

I don't see the relevance Pete? You may as well cite Aberdeen being up for games and beating Celtic in the 80's and call that relevant. Different players and managers (and clubs tbh)

I doubt if Motherwell will be up for any game like they were yesterday. Despite Celtic winning the leagues over the last few years, Rangers will always be these teams cup final. Add SG to the mix and I think they will be even more determined to take a scalp. They celebrated like they won the World Cup yesterday (as did Aberdeen). We just have to make sure we are not in a position were late goals mean anything. We should have gone for the 4th goal as soon as the 2nd half started and put the game to bed. While there is a goal in it, the other team will always have hope.

Nope, most teams come to Ibrox to dig in and counter. A back-3 will free up someone for MF to dominate possession in their half. We could actually drop Tav and play Candeias (tracks back a lot), Barisic going forward is almost equally as effective. Keep them in their half and let the back-3 and one DM cover our defence.

    Fair points dude
