A truly gifted but majorly flawed individual. One only wonders what havoc he would wreak in today's no tackling version of football.

After the extended international break, it is possible that our momentum maybe somewhat halted, so any kind of win is paramount today. Don't care how it happens as long as we go out the door with all 3 pts to keep the pressure on them. Regardless of their games in hand, a potential 11 pt lead at this stage of the season would be amazing. Playing catch up with an 11pt deficit is a lot more pressured than doing it with a 2/3 pt difference. Bring it on!

In a tight 2 horse race, draws are as good as defeats IMO. We just need to make it count tomorrow now and keep applying pressure. Our fate is firmly in our own hands.

You're probably on the money Syntax. I recall a quote from Cruyff about not wanting to play football metres away from torture chambers? Maybe it was just a smokescreen to keep the kidnapping plot quite? As you say though, you can imagine Cruyff being quite political. The other story from 78 is Scotland beating Netherlands 3-2. Is there not also doubt about this game as the Netherlands did not want to top the group as that meant playing Argentina in the next group phase. One other memory was France wearing a green and white striped jersey (donated by a local club) due to strip mix up?

I did say one of the reasons. He did express his opposition to the regime in Argentina before 78
-
I'm sure this was one of the reasons Cruyff did not take part in the tournament and ultimately retired from International football

The format of the 78 world cup was very different to the current tournaments. There essentially were no knockout phases or semi finals as the teams went into another group of 4, with the 2 group winners heading to the final. In Argentinas group, they were required to beat a decent Peru side by 4 goals to overtake Brazil. The final score was 6-0 with some truly awful "defending" by the Peruvians. Peruvians officials have subseuntly stated that the match was indeed fixed.

Sellik "legend" Chris Sutton now effectively calling for Lennon to go. Oh dear. 4 away games on the bounce and Lennon openly admitting he needs a victory tomorrow. Let's see what unravels. Maybe Dave King had a point?... -
And don't forget how corrupt their 1978 win was...

Not MOTM but I thought Jack had his best game in ages last night. He was more dynamic than usual

Ok, the draw kind of felt like a defeat but let's get real here. 3 years ago we were getting beat by a team from Luxemburg. Last night we were a whisker away from beating a CL quality team who have never lost a Europa Cup match at home. Take away the two defensive blips, I thought it was one of the most accomplished performances I've ever seen from a Rangers team in Europe. Oh and what about the Tims? Is it true that Sparta hadn't played any form of football for a while out with the EL?

Not to look too far ahead but are they not away to Hibs after that? -

I have to agree. 2nd half was odd tactically IMO -

Great win and vital 3 pts but I didn't really get the tactics in the 2nd half. I thought Aribo was looking lively and bringing on Balugan almost sent out a message that we were happy to sit back. Saying all that, if Kent had his shooting boots on we should have won that by at least 3 -

Been quite impressed by Ittens play (when involved). His hold up and set up play have been decent. The chance he set up for Kent being the perfect example of that -

Need Tav and Borna to get in behind and hit the byline. Too many speculative balls into the box for me -

IMO, this our biggest test of the season. We now know we can get the better of and beat the bheasts but this is where we have failed in the past few years. We have a lead at the top, the other lot are not on league duty but we face a test on the plastic pitch against a team that will be dogged.
