The German set-up is quite interesting. They have no striker; Gotze is used as a false-nine, with Ozil also floating around him. It's a standard 4-4-2, but very flexible. It'll be interesting to see how they will approach what will be a compact NIR defense.

I'm pleased we've got more than one game today, but the simultaneous scheduling means more work for me! NIR-Germany could be a good one, although I presume it'll be a packed NIR defense against a dominant German possession game. Tactically interesting, if a bit dull at times. Croatia-Spain will be another good one; two of the better teams thus far. Hopefully the fans behave themselves.

I'm not so sure. It's only an issue if it doesn't work. I think it did work, but they didn't put it in the net; which is something they've struggled to do all tournament. We've seen two line-ups that have struggled to do the same thing. If Hodgson didn't change it and got the same result, would we not be asking why not? However, they were playing against packed defenses, which is always difficult. I agree certain player omissions were unnecessary, like Walker and Rooney. To be fair though, I don't think one could call it a weakened side!

Very true. My point was that team selection shouldn't be an issue. One could argue their defense has not been tested yet, as they've dominated their games against sides that weren't looking to play.

He does a good defensive job, but I think his passing into the final third was excellent -- reminded me of Carrick's pin-point vertical passing.

I'm sad to admit, I've been googling pictures of the three possible players for the last 5-10 minutes and I think it's Mariappa. I know the Nelson rumour has been circulating for a few weeks, but when I saw that Mariappa had been released by Crystal Palace I thought he could be a likely target because of the Watford link.

That synchronised chant from the Iceland fans is quite amazing, and terrifying in its own way. It's like some kind of Viking war chant. Awesome. To be fair, the Hungarian fans have a good rebuttal too, with their synchronised clapping. It's a great to and fro between both sets of fans. I'd love to hear something like either at Ibrox!

Looks a promising game, going by the first few minutes. Both sides are quite expansive in their set-up. The atmosphere is great!

I'm looking forward to a much more 'open' game between Iceland and Hungary. Both were underdogs in their first games, and as a result were defensively orientated; it should be a more even contest today. I'm worried about my Iceland win prediction, though: it looks like it's an Iceland 4-4-2 against a Hungary 4-3-3; It'll be interesting to see how the formations work against each other.
