Why is it always great or disastrous? I'd be happy to see us cement second place. That's both disastrous and great depending on one's point of view.

Southampton go for Managers that suit their culture; famously they have a black box on all potential managers and players. I thought De Boer would fit, but maybe not. You've never heard of Hughes?! He's one of the most talented midfielders in the Championship - I'm astonished Derby are letting him go! And 8m seems a tad cheap.

I like Anita. Came through the Ajax set-up, so is technically excellent and can play several positions (Full-back and DM). However, he is similar to Zelalem (good technically but not too physical). I'm a big fan but maybe not physical enough for a defensive role, and perhaps too expensive for a squad role.

I know these games are for the most part meaningless, but I am displeased that we are not scoring goals. I suppose it is difficult when we're chopping and changing every 20 minutes. It does seem like we've got a settled 4-2-3-1, with Jack a mainstay at DM and Kranjcar/Windass as a No.10. I'm liking what I'm seeing but I'd like us to score some goals!

I'm not too fussed about Walker when McKay is better, IMO, and especially since we can get him for nothing in a year. I'd like to get Dorrans, although I'm not sure he's the top quality player most seem to think he is -- at least he is a step up on what we have.

We're not playing Apollon Limassol - we're playing AEL Limassol. However, your point stands: Cypriot sides are no push-overs; APOEL have done very well over the last few years.
