  1. I posted something similar elsewhere. They seem to be the elite level of what Southampton are doing. Getting anywhere close to that will bring benefits. Hopefully we're patient enough to let it develop.

Those Portuguese clubs do have an advantage when it comes to South American players though, no?

Someone that was at the game told me that Dodoo "did ok, but not great" and that he needs "to do more if he wants to play in the first team".

    That's a shame. I can't argue with your contacts...

I really thought -- and still do -- that he had something about him. Maybe a psychological thing?

Dodoo would seem to be quite away from the first team picture, currently around 4,200 miles.

It would appear so. It's a shame, as I think he could do a job -- we're not exactly flush with forwards either!

Hopefully he works hard and perhaps forces his way into contention. He's still young.

I'd like to see Burt get some game time too, if he can push on.

    This.

There's confusion over the winter break. Some pundits laughably think it's to do with avoiding bad weather and have a moan when it snows or freezes in February. It's nothing to do with weather and all to do with giving the players a break. It's meant to allow players who have been playing with injuries to get them addressed, either through an op or through rest. As supporters we're often critical of players commitment without realising that most players play with ongoing injuries. Either playing through the pain barrier which can lead to their performances being compromised or with pain killers which can lead to injuries getting worse.

Hopefully these are nothing too serious and both can get over them within a couple of weeks.

JohnMc agrees with one of my posts?

  5. I suppose that's what the Winter break is all about: giving the players a rest, both physically and mentally -- hopefully with the latter they can get over their Ibrox hoodoo, although I don't want to jinx it!

The most important thing is we get them back to full fitness for the next League game.

  6. Oh well; that lasted long...

Burnley's Scott Arfield considered by Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Ham

Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield is attracting interest from Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Ham, according to Sky sources.

The 29-year-old has less than six months remaining on his contract and would be available on a free transfer in the summer.

Sky Sports News understands Burnley have offered Arfield a new deal, but the Canada international is yet to agree fresh terms to stay at Turf Moor.

The trio of clubs are yet to formalise their interest with an offer.

West Ham manager David Moyes is a long-term admirer of Arfield having previously wanted to sign him during his time at Sunderland.

Moyes revealed in December that he was keen on adding to his squad as he attempts to preserve his side's place in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, like Moyes, is eager to strengthen his ranks having lost Jeffrey Schlupp, Andros Townsend, Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon to injury.

Following the Eagles' 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat to Brighton on Monday, Hodgson admitted he was in the market for six or seven new players, with Arfield understood to be on his shortlist.

Both clubs will also face competition from Brighton.

IMO he was simply a lazy bast**d who couldn't (be bothered to) reach a decent level of fitness or if he did, was world class at hiding it during games.

Some players are so good they can get away with it, Carlos wasn't.

It was nothing to do with where he came from.

A poor professional...... A label that he arrived with from his former club.

I agree he had problems, personally, psychologically, etc., but he wasn't a "lazy bast**d".

    Anyway... agree to disagree.
