Do we really know that Alnwick is ahead of Wes ?  Or has Gerrard said "McGregor is my #1 and you two fight it out for back-up" to which Wes may have very well said thanks but no thanks.

That said, I think that Alnwick commands his box better than Wes.  There isn't a great deal in it between the two of them for me.  McGregor considerably better than both IMO.

I wouldn't have been happy to see Wes stay as he always gave his best - but we certainly don't need 3 keepers - and it could also be that Gerrard sees Wes as more marketable in terms of getting money in the door to bolster the squad elsewhere.  If there isn't much between Wes & Alnwick then get rid of the one that brings the most money in, and who is on the higher salary - makes sense.

I was just going by that article and I have read it a few times, but I agree I don't think there's anything concrete there.

For me Wes is better all-round -- perhaps Alnwick just shades it in commanding his box, but there's not as much as is perceived to be IMO.

Shagger should be #1. I'd like to see McCrorie make that step up, although I'm not sure if he's actually ready.

That's a good point about marketability; he should command a better fee -- does that not also suggest Wes is the better 'keeper...

  2. Strange game; poor game.

Uruguay looked to defend hard, then nick a goal from a counter or set-piece.

France had to score first to scupper that, and they did. Once that goal went in, the game was over.

France didn't do much, Uruguay huffed and puffed but couldn't do anything. Missing Cavani was a big loss.

Not sure how you can say "it looks increasingly unlikely he'll reproduce that one good season at Burnley" when he has been injured.  Being injured is no guarantee that he won't still find his shooting boots.  He hasn't really had a chance at Liverpool due to his injuries.  But that isn't really an indicator of how likely he is to find his form.  We only need to look across the city for an example.... we rejected Hartson due to a failed medical - and he scored for fun for Celtic.

I think Ings would shine in Scotland.  However, I do agree that it is a moot point - I just can't see us getting him.  EPL teams will be willing to part with cash for a guy who has proven he can score at that level and they will pay him far more than we can.

Whether we like it or not we also need to realise that we have literally ONE striker on the books right now - we need numbers and I think that Solanke and/or Ings would add something different to Morelos.  Sadiq looks like he could be on his way, and he too would offer something different.  We need variability and all 3 of those would provide that, and provide proper competition for Morelos.  Which I think is much needed.

Yes, you're right: he's been really unfortunate with injury. But it is taking longer and longer for him to return -- a Rossiter situation?  I was mostly thinking of this last season, where I think he has been 'fit', or free from injury, since January time. Of course, it's impossible to get in front of Mane, Firmino and Salah, but from what I saw, he's didn't really do much. I think he got his first goal in the last game of the season.

Perhaps. He has got a knack for findings space in the box, so perhaps that will shine through if he were to get a good run in a team. Yes, I think it's unlikely.

We certainly need more options up front, and I'm not suggesting we don't sign these guys, just that they don't excite me; I don't see the lure -- apart from Wilson.

It's  funny how we all see different things in players we like, but as you have said in the past, it depends what system he'll play and who he needs to do those jobs the best.  There's no doubt that Wilson is a cracking player and I'd love him at Rangers.  Ings and Solanke would both be a big step up from what we have and I'd like either of them.  I hope we get a better picture of his system and style tonight.  It may then become clearer the type of playe that will best suit our new system.  I can't wait for the game.  The result is irrelevant, but I do want to see a marked difference in the attitude of the players.  And of course I really want to see an excitingly attacking approach.  Let's go.

    In what way?

They are on Liverpool's books, but I see both as average -- Ings is not bad, but he's unlikely to join us and has had his injury problems and it looks increasingly unlikely that he'll reproduce that one good season at Burnley.

I am looking forward to seeing how we play against Bury tonight; hopefully we see hints of his style.

  5. What is it people see in these guys?

The only one I'd be interested in is Wilson; he's played sparsely for Hull, but contributed a decent amount of goals in the few starts he had, for an attacking midfielder.

Woodburn is a talent, but he's 18; he can't really be expected to walk into our team, or at least not play regularly. He'll not be consistent.

Ings is unlikely because of wage demands, and has not been in great form -- albeit due to injury. He's only really had one good season at Burnley, where he hit a goal every two games.

Solanke is a good worker, but nothing else; not a great player, IMO.

Having now had a proper look at the strips.  I really like the home one - classy.  The away strip is decent enough, although a re-hash of an old top.  The orange strip is quite rubbish - just looks like they've put no effort in at all.

My wee lad fancies himself as a goalie, so hopefully I can get one if the keeper strips in the right size for him (I'm too old to wear football tops).

    Never!

With these beauties I'm going Full Kit W*nker! :D

Had a wee look on the main Celtc forum (not a member?), their in complete meltdown for some reason. It’s all about the Rangers.

I hope you had a shower afterwards... :ninja:

Liverpool have Salah, Firmino and Mane up front.

We have...erm, Morelos.  So I'm keeping cool on the Liverpool comparison.

Yes, it's unlikely we could recreate that quality, but I hope to see the principles behind it.

    Interesting line ups:

First-half XI: Alnwick, Hodson, Bradley, Katic, John, Halliday, Docherty, Jack, Middleton, Rudden, Atakayi

Second-half XI: Alnwick (McCrorie 75’), Tavernier, Goldson, Wilson, Flanagan, McCrorie, Arfield, Murphy, Candeias, Morelos, Windass.

    They look like 4-3-3s.

  11. Couple of good scores in this one.

onevision, compo, Craig, Gaffer, r_s, johnnyk, UKCrazyhorse and Coop gain 1 point for the Correct Result.

Barebear, Malangsob and BEARGER gain 3 points for the Correct Score.
