McCrorie could fit in to a back 3 at a pinch. And what about the young lad Bradley? Ok I know he looked shaky in the friendly but he must have potential. If we keep Tav. he would be an ideal wing back.

That is an option, but I think SG stated he doesn't see McCrorie as a CB.

Think you could add a * to Dorrans too though it pains me to say it. I fear injury has taken its toll of a player I always liked. Oh, and has Holt gone yet?

    Possibly.

Holt is away on loan to Fleetwood.

Very much depends on the positioning of the midfield 3.  They have to be aware enough to cover wide areas without giving up all the central space.  All about shifting as a unit.

Yes, which they've looked able to do thus far. I think Jack, Coulibaly and Arfield are extremely disciplined.

I does also give the option of a back three, as you suggested.

Given he just got captaincy you may be right. But Barisic’s delivery is better and not sure you want both full backs bombing forward.

coukd very well be a change in formation instead, to a 3-5-2 with Goldson, Katic and Flanagan as the “3” whilst Tav and Barisic play as wing backs

Or one just stays back a tad while the other goes forward.

I don't think having both Full-backs bombing forward is an issue if the midfield-three is organised.

  5. GK: McGregor | Alnwick | Foderingham*

    RB: Tavernier | Flanagan

CB: Katic | Goldson | Bradley

    LB: John | Barasic

RCM: Coulibaly | Halliday* | Dorrans

DM: Jack | McCrorie | Rossiter

LCM: Arfield | Ejaria | Docherty*

    RW: Candeias | Windass

    ST: Morelos | Sadiq

LW: Murphy | Middleton | Kent

    * Possibly on their way out

  6. We're maybe not as overloaded at LB as it appears. Halliday is a stand-in, Wallace will be off, John is not quite good enough and Flanagan is technically a RB.

In that case it'll be: John and Barasic at LB, with Tavernier and Flanagan at RB. Flanagan is better than John at LB, though.

4 players for two positions is not bad.

    We do need forwards now.

Edit: @Darthter beat me to it...

I was certain I had put Tav for first goal, and I got Tav in the first goalscorer sweep on the bus yesterday on route to Dollyville, and I was at least compensated a little by the fact I would get some points for my correct prediction. Check on here now and I got no points? So I go back and check my posting and there it is in black and white "Morelos FGS". How the F did that happen!!!!

    Even more gutted now!

I actually looked through several times, because I was certain someone had Tavernier as FGS.

  8. I thought the 4-3-2 worked very well, mainly because of an extremely organised and workman-like midfield-three of Coulibaly, Jack and Arfield.

Murphy and Windass run themselves into the ground.

It was a really pleasing performance, if a tad gutting because of the way it ended, as other have mentioned. However, I did say to myself after the Red Card that I'd take a draw.

Was literally about to post about this. If Goldson stands up he would have blocked it. No idea what was going through his head

I agree Morelos gave the Referee a decision to make. I have no idea how the linesman missed the 2 barges on Morelos though. A stern warning was enough here but Clancy couldn't get his card out quick enough. I doubt we will contest the red card to be honest.

Further I have no idea what Goldson was doing at the goal he had time to make a tackle with his foot but decided to dive like a penguin. I honestly believe that Katic is our best defender and covers up for Goldson on many occasions. Katic and Jack were immense. McCrorie may have been a better option than Mccrorie for Jack but I think Gerrard wanted to keep us dangerous and not sit on the 18 yard box.

I think that's unfair. When a ball is about to be blasted towards your goal, you're first reaction should not be to stay still. Yes, in hindsight staying still would've blocked it, but he couldn't know that. He tried to block it, and failed.

Methinks Ejaria was ready to come on anyway, probably not for Jack though. McCrorie was readied soon after, but it did not come to pass.

I see May did not even receive a yellow for taking Jack out ...

Like I said above, I was surprised Jack didn't get booked for it.

    Solid performance against adversity.

Shouldn't have had both Ejaria and Windass on the park for the last 10 minutes. Goal against became much more probable when Jack went off for the Liverpool youngster.

Neither did anything wrong to be fair, but I agree, I would've preferred McCrorie to come on instead of Ejaria.
