  1. I like the sound of Mohanad Ali Kadhim: young striker, who's scored a good amount. There are questions marks about the level, but he looks a good unit for 18. (Al-Shorta, his current club, look to be a top club in Iraq; they're currently 1st in their league.)

Woodburn doesn't interest me. He's a wonderful talent, but he's not really played much, at any level. He may be a useful creative presence off the bench.

    I would recall Docherty.

  2. He had an ankle / achilles injury prior to the Old Firm game, took an injection to get through it -- because he really wanted to play -- with the knowledge he had the winter break after it. I suppose he's now recovering.

I was going to post this. Disastrous week for Kilmarnock with their main man Stewart gone and Jones all but gone. I don't think they can replace Stewart and although I'd be shocked if Clarke didn't want to keep Jones for now, the poor relationship with the fans won't help his form. Interestingly Stewart is also available on a bosman. A former Rangers youth player, I think he's good enough to be a squad player. However I don't see that happening.

    Sign him for the LOLZ.

If we can do a deal for Kent, I'd be over the moon with the outcome of this transfer window.  I was hoping for a number 10, but if the boss thinks Davis can compete with Arfield for that spot, I trust him.  For me, Kent is the future star of our team and we must get him sorted out now before his value rises.  I know he can be frustrating sometimes, but every time he's on the ball I feel he can do something.  He's the standard that guys like Middleton need to reach if they're going to make it.

Really? Because he skinned Lustig? Everyone can skin Lustig.

I think that's going too far. Kent's a good player, with good skills, but his final product is average. I'd certainly like to get him permanently, for a modest fee, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's the future star of our team.

Four strikers in the squad now with Morelos, Lafferty, Defoe & Hardie. All would very much expect to be in the matchday squad. Either Morelos is away or we're going 4-4-2/3-5-2, and we've already said Morelos is going nowhere.

3-5-2 would be mean Kent, Candeias, Grezda and Middleton wouldn't have a natural position in the team. 4-4-2 would leave only two central midfield positions despite having a lot of players in that position and having added one more. I think 3-5-2 looks very likely although I'm surprised given Kent is rated so highly by the manager.

A very interesting development which I really didn't see coming.

    Perhaps.

It's just great to have options; we can now make many more changes in a game.

He did play 3-4-2-1 / 3-4-1-2 with Liverpool reserves -- something along the lines of what Southampton are implementing under Hasenhuttl just now, which I've been very impressed by.

Despite all the rumours and insider knowledge, media "confirmation" etc, there is still no official word on any players (Defoe, Davis, 2 x USA guys) signing for the club. Just the 2 pre-contract guys announced yesterday.

Are there issues still to be resolved, medical or financial, or are we just waiting till we do an official presser prior to going to Tenerife for training? Perhaps SG is having a few days off with his family and isnt available to do the official unveiling yet?

Not worried (actually not worried if they even sign or not) just wondering why there has been nothing official on this yet despite being "done" for several days now?

I don't think they've been "done" for several days. There is that usual tabloid tripe that gets bandied about, as you know, but nothing's been completed.

Defoe was expected to take his medical over the weekend, and join up before the Tenerife trip.

The Davis stuff is just rumour, I think? Southampton announced they'd let him go, and I think we're interested, but that's it. Hopefully, we're in talks.

The USA guys seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. But again, all we know is that they had a trial, or were on trial.

Then you will have noticed that he's a good tackler and passer but he does tend to play deep. He's described on 'transfermarket' or somesuch as a 'defensive right-footed midfielder.'

Considering that our strongest need is for a no. 10 type I'm unsure how he will fit in. He's essentially competing with Jack, McCrorie and Rossiter. Unless SG thinks he can play further forward.

    Rossiter is done, IMO.

I suspect he's a replacement for Coulibaly; the destroyer type that can play deep or as an 8. At the very least, he's one of the most promising youngsters in the league, so to tie him up for us is a great piece of business.

It's certainly not 4 players vying for 1 position like you're suggesting.

  8. I've liked Kamara for a while now. He always looked like one of the best young players in the league. From the videos, he looks like a pre-dip Coulibaly, but with more technical skill and composure. Along with Docherty, Kamara was always very high in the stat charts -- I still think Docherty has a future with us, going by what Gerrard said; two players very much for the future.

Jones is a good squad player to get. He's been one of the top performing players in the league. He adds depth to our forward line.

Defoe excites me; simply for his name and career. I'm not sure where he'll play, but having his quality to add to our squad will be invaluable; at the very least just being around the players, helping the strikers -- top class striker in his day -- and he could help Morelos too. His general fitness and approach to training is allegedly second to none.

And, Davis is exactly the type of player we've been crying out for.

Superb start to the transfer window. Not much outlay, if any, good quality added, and squad players and options for the future.
