I don't think it's motivation. I have always though that a big part of the dichotomy is the tactical context of a European game compared to a domestic one. I hadn't thought of the pressure issue, though. The European game is the 'bigger' game on paper but it probably doesn't have the same level of pressure, as there's only so much we can do in Europe. Domestic games are all 'must-win.'
