Push may come to shove, but it's a bit of a red herring, for me. There are wider financial causes of our problems, with hints of plans in place to solve them. The squad has been dismantled, with more still to come, and isn't good enough. I'm content to let Koppen cook over the next couple of windows. I had already written off the season as a rebuild; these dropped points don't change that.

I don't think you understand my point. It would have been an act of absolute stupidity in our financial situation to sign more CBs when we already had 7 serviceable options - especially when our defence has not been an issue.

We had 7 CBs going into this season. You can argue about the quality, but it would have been a mistake to spend even more on the defence when we had cover; especially when the attacking area was the main problem.

Bassey was powerful and quick but flawed as a CB. They're - not Katic - better than what we have now, but I don't think we've had a real quality CB since the Cuellar, Boumsong periods. I might have overlooked some.

You're conflating quality and quantity. We've not had quality for decades. Quantity has not been an issue.
