Winter Training Camp | [FT] Rangers 2 - 2 Copenhagen
Rousseau replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I think it's because players now are moving much faster, putting more stress on their muscles. A slight nick can cause major damage. Amateurs of the past weren't moving as fast. They were basically walking. -
There was no VAR anyway, iirc.

Not really. We have a loan watch thread now and again, but that's not often.

German and World Cup football legend Franz Beckenbauer has died aged 78. In a statement, his family said: "It is with deep sadness that we announce that my husband and our father, Franz Beckenbauer, passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday, Sunday, surrounded by his family," the family said. "We ask that you be able to grieve in silence and refrain from asking any questions." https://news.sky.com/story/franz-beckenbauer-german-football-legend-dies-aged-78-13044240

You can never have enough of those types, possessing real quality, for me. Obviously, you still want a goalscorer. I get the impression PC likes those quick, versatile players. They're raw, athletic players that a good coach can mould (Gelhardt had a good spell under Bielsa, who similarly likes that type of player, for example).
-
Gelhardt's a wonderful player; strong, quick, good dribbler and his build-up play - in the right system (Bielsa) - is superb. He is not a goalscorer, but can play anywhere across the front-three and #10. An option to buy would be superb. He has the potential to go for a lot of money down the line. A straight loan? Nope. We shouldn't be developing players for other teams.

You know you're getting old when your footballing hero's contract is housed in a museum...

We have a Rangers forum for Rangers stuff - your parking post is fine there. We have a General Football forum for world football stuff - your VAR post is covering wider VAR issues in football. We have the Bluenose Lounge for non-football related stuff, politics etc. We have Forum Support for ... forum support issues.

I've moved the thread to the general football forum.

So, basically how it was before VAR.

Did anyone here see Riquelme? I wish I had.

Deliberate or not. Can you say with 100% accuracy that x, y, or z handled the ball accidentally or deliberately. That's an example of a subjective hand ball. For what it's worth, I think Johnstone handled it accidentally. A penalty still should have been awarded (and then rescinded as Sima was offside). You and I are disagreeing on this incident, suggesting that there's a level of subjectivity to it. VAR won't remove subjectivity from the game; there are too many instances where it's up to the subjectivity of the referee. (I don't disagree with your thoughts on the incompetence of our set-up.)

No worries.

This is not the place to discuss politics.

He was given a red circle, not an old-fashioned card. Game's gone. Unwatchable.
