He covered it on MNF. It was individual errors (new 'keeper or players having stage freight, so to speak), or going against his instructions. He tweaked things quite often - like inverting a full-back to help keep the ball against a good pressing side. He believes the best chance of winning is to keep the ball. His teams ranked quite highly in that regard, even in the Premier League. It's funny that we don't criticise teams that park the bus (a Mourinho philosophy, ironically) for refusing to change.

Yes, I get it. Marsch did well at Salzburg, which I would say is a somewhat similar situation to us in our league. He also has a recognisable style of play (Red Bull), and he's American. He's not been wildly successful since - I think Canada are doing well, though. Rydstrom is the Malmo manager. Has won everything - although they are the dominant side in their league. We did pump them, but he has an interesting philosophy, having adopted the relationist style. Nancy has done well in the MLS with a positional style. Rohl has done a good job at Wednesday. He has a high press, German style of play. You'll notice my immediate concern with these names is style of play...

That's not true - Martin just couldn't find / get to a solution. He tweaked things quite often. He has since suggested they got their recruitment wrong in terms of underestimating athleticism of the PL. However, we are talking about So'ton, in the PL: They were outmatched, as are the majority of promoted sides. This doesn't apply to us. Yes, he does have a philosophy, but so does Rodgers, so does Postecoglu. They've won quite a lot up here. IMO, that's what we need - someone that can implement a style of play. I will concede that his possession-based style is not everyone's cup of tea, though. Mourinho is now irrelevant. I wouldn't take notice of his opinions on the modern game. He was just beaten by Barry Ferguson. Your point is not without merit, but, IMO, this general distrust of 'philosophy' is out of date, and is part of the reason why this country is a footballing backwater. (I'm not lumping you in with those.)

I think Martin has built up a good body of work as a coach. I did try to be somewhat realistic. Jaissle is in Saudi so we're not competing with the money but I hope he's looking to return to Europe some time in the future after pocketing as much as he can. Bielsa is unlikely. I'm just a fan of both. Martin and Motta are free agents. Motta was just sacked by Juventus, so maybe too much of a step down. Henriksen (Mainz), Nancy (Columbus Crew, MLS), Marsch (Canada), Rohl (Sheffield Wednesday) and Rystrom (Malmo) could be poached, maybe. McKenna is about to be relegated with Ipswich. He's not getting sacked, but could be poached. Although, he probably has enough credit to get a PL job. Knutsen is at Bodo/Glimt, but seems to be averse to moving as he has a cushy situation. Compo asked the question, I just provided some names that interest me. They're better than the same old names that get bandied about, like Warnock, Dyche and Lampard, surely? Do you have any names?

Only hipsters need apply.

I don't disagree, but not for the money I'm assuming it will take to buy him; we're talking more than what Kent cost.

In no particular order: Henrik Rydstrom Bielsa Thiago Motta Jesse Marsch Russell Martin Marco Rose Danny Rohl Kieran McKenna Wilfried Nancy Christian Ilzer Raffaele Palladino Bo Henriksen Matthias Jaissle Kjetil Knutsen Ralph Hasenhuttl

Cerny has been superb, but I wouldn't burst the bank for him because he'll have very little sell-on value at his age.

Raskin and Igamane called up for Belgium and Morocco

We kept Morelos, Kent, Goldson, Aribo, Kamara, etc. long after their peak value. How much did we win? We're still counting the cost. We need to get the player trading model working. -

Marinakis owns a few clubs, so I don't think that's right. I could be wrong.

My latest creation! It's interesting how few players we have at 'peak' age (red section) that play decent minutes. We do have a few younger players approaching peak age, though, which is good.

Strong connections on the right - over the last few games it has been the left that had the stronger connections with Jefte a major hub. It would be interesting to see Tavernier and Jefte play as WBs. Sterling again showing up well. Tavernier looks quite impressive, finding / found by Raskin and Diomande a lot. Cerny and Dessers a little isolated. I liked Ridvan's positioning, but he was a little isolated, too. I wonder if Celtic allowed the pass from Butland to Balogun? Balogun isn't great on the ball, yet is clearly the outlet for Butland. -

I have argued before that I think we have a decent core of young players with which to build. This summer needs to see the acquisition of first-team quality players to supplement our core. -
Has Barry shown enough to be considered new manager?
