  1. There are a few candidates for me: - Butland: made several good saves and was assured; a second half flap was his only negative - Davies: rarely troubled and tidied up well - Goldson: dominant in the air and covered well - Lundstrum: more second half than anything, but he was crucial to getting the ball moving from the back, which we struggled to do for 35 mins first half - Matondo: a constant threat with his pace But for me it goes to Roofe, who led the line well and was a constant threat. He makes such a difference when we can keep him fit.
  2. Sounded to me like he may start on Sunday
  3. First half we looked disjointed trying to draw them out but couldn’t seem to get any consistent balls into the midfield. They were on top of us and seemed to be waiting to trap us so many times. However we grew into it though and I thought second half we were much better positionally, which helped create more pressure and ultimately chances. They showed some nice touches but otherwise I thought we more or less contained them in the final third.

  5. Regardless, you can make a case for the fine margins of the game going against us at crucial moments vs Celtic... had they gone the other way, we would be having a very different set of discussions on here. That isn't a reason to keep him on its own, but if you're a Board member and you've backed the manager to overhaul the squad over the summer...although you'd be seeing some worrying trends and patchy early season form, I would be surprised if their view would be formed on just 4 league games. The league is far from gone and although there is a sea-change of opinion from the stands, its not irrecoverable. If we don't get 3 point tomorrow though, get him chased!
  6. I dont think any of the no voters are doing so because of any weirdly optimistic takes that he will 100% turn it around... my confidence level has taken a helluva dent and I can see the arguments for letting him go now... I just think its a little too soon. Its a gut feel, no more. The reflection seems to be that Beale may be a good coach, but is he a good manager and able to motivate a squad to deliver results consistently, and particularly in big games? Tomorrow's game will reveal a lot. A big performance is needed as well as the result. And the players need to show that they are pulling in the same direction.

  8. Yeah that’s fair but I think their overall structure is more solid and professional, to the point where the things you’ve highlighted were issues they were able to work through without it translating to negatives on the pitch. An anecdotal example I would cite was when I was approached by a recruiter to a role with Celtic’s internal audit team. It was probably 10 years ago now, and of course I knocked back the opportunity, but it’s just a small glimpse into how they have been operating on a more professional level for quite some time.
  9. For my take, I think he's approaching last chance saloon but not quite there yet. He wont be able to sustain any more big hits, so really its a big challenge for his managerial nous to get some fire into the squad's belly and to go a run of wins. 4 points behind after 4 domestic games is poor, but there is still time to turn things around. I have less confidence, but sometimes when you persevere and come out of the end of a bad spell that can be the making of a manager.
  10. I think one of the factors in our impatience was seeing the success Postecoglu had in turning round their squad to wiping the floor domestically. Much as that hurt, it set the standard. So when we see Beale's big turnaround stuttering, and with little credit in the bank generally, we saw the tide turning almost full circle during the course of the first half. Postecoglu though had the benefit of a much more stable club off the pitch. As does Rodgers, but he's also likely to get that team playing better than they are just now, so we might not have had a better chance to beat them this season - another factor that added to the ire raining down on Beale on Sunday.
  11. No but it’s getting close to squeaky bum time.
  12. My initial reaction from the Club Deck was that I was confused why the VAR goal check was taking so long. I was then baffled by the decision to disallow, and having then seen a clip on a phone, I couldn't see what the clear and obvious error was. It mostly looked like a coming together, Dessers had himself in between the man and the ball and won it. But it doesn't change the fact that we conceded a soft goal and failed to show enough quality in the final third. These are the key trends since last year that we were meant to be addressing with the squad revamp. And much as I like Beale, thats on him. Its too early, for me, to get rid... but he's moving towards 'last chance' territory.

  14. As soon as his pals Calvin and Joe got their moves, that was it I think... And it showed in his performances, aside from the PSV second leg last year where he was very good.
  15. Still feeling numb after that performance. I thought there were signs that Beale's side was slowly taking shape, but we've come up against a team that just had too much for us to handle on the night. Sunday is huge. There's pressure on both managers and sets of players. We simply have to make home advantage count. Keep believing!

  17. I suspect he wants to be somewhere in the south of England so that he can be closer to his pals Calvin and Joe.

We shall see, though I didn't watch. Suspect you will be right though.

He played really well on Saturday, albeit vs Partick Thistle. Lets see how he's going at the end of the season. If he can play 35-40 games and hopefully some group stage european games, I think he'll kick on nicely and be an option for next season.

  21. To be fair, I was convinced looking down from the club deck that it was a second yellow. I was very relieved when the ref decided to have a word instead, but I think a high proportion of UEFA refs would have carded him without a moment's thought.
  22. It was a toss-up between Souttar and Goldson, but big Connor edged it. Cantwell was close after that. The big thing was how much we relied upon the centre half pairing to bail out the full backs when they were regularly caught in behind/ out of position. Absolutely loved Souttar's darting run in the second half to break the lines from a goal kick, playing the ball down the line for Matondo. Another sign that the work Beale is doing in training is starting to show on the pitch
  23. We can only speculate about his intentions. It will be interesting to see if he declares his motivations publicly.
