Transfer Deadline Day: Michael O'Halloran signs until 2020
stewarty replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
Measured words as always from the gaffer. Certainly pours cold water over the hyperbole and insinuation from the likes of Boyd and stoked up by the press. -
Aside from the article being slightly preachy, I'm on board with the idea of short corners. Where I feel that fans get frustrated is when it becomes too obvious what we will do, to the point where defenders squeeze the corner and we end up going backwards. Once that happens a few times in succession, you are looking for a bit of variety and a bit of nous on the pitch. That said, I agree with Tannochsidebear - we have shown more variety in recent games and, to be fair to the team, this seems to be reflective of our upturn in form.

Maybe the fact that we haven't gone back with a 3rd bid to St J on M O'H is because we've decided he's not worth what they want for him (or the terms of the deal), and maybe we've got our sights on someone else??? -

Chris McLaughlin's lack of balance apparent again

His report on the Radio Scotland newsdrive programme really irritated me for much of the reasons mentioned above. Mental gymnastics he goes through so as not to annoy Lawwell really is a site to behold. I can't say I'm overly keen on banning journalists, but I would make a few exceptions, and McLaughlin is one of them. -
By far the biggest issue I see is their lack of corporate governance. Its all very well appointing his family and friends - they're hardly likely to challenge his methods. Eventually this stuff catches up on you - as seen by the string of bad business decisions that SD are making. More fool them. Jelly and Ice Cream in the Louden with Sports Direct dies!

I wouldn't be unhappy if he left. Not good enough for what we will need next season, although this season he has a role in a "horses for courses" sense.

Why report on boring answers to boring questions when you can make something up?

You're so judgemental. A journos gotta eat!

Yeah, I've watched it too. I think one or two members of the press are attempting to massage what was said to fit a narrative

So who else was involved in this scheme? Seems an obvious follow up -

Wilson's form is quite a concern though. He's been beaten by his man or caught out of position on several occasions and its led to us conceding goals. His confidence looks shot, and he also looks to me like he wants/needs a marker behind him, to give him confidence to attack the ball in front of him, knowing that he has someone sweeping if he doesn't connect. -

What a farcical prosecution to bring. Does the Crown not assess the strength of evidence and weigh against the likelihood of success? -
A long haul awaits, no doubt. But with the various criminal trials scheduled to begin in January, the next play in the Board's recovery strategy might become apparent. My guess is that this might, in part, hinge on the details on the originations of the Sports Direct deals, along with the relationships between Green, Ashley, Whyte and others will be played out in court. And if it does, this will only serve to strengthen our position. As for the finer details of the contracts, we may well get sight of them depending on the outcome of the confidentiality dispute that will also be heard soon. Whilst this will not be the end of matters, hopefully its the beginning of the end...

Rangers will come to regret letting in Dave King...
stewarty replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I've just listened to Johnny McFarlane's Fitbaw Hacks podcast featuring Roger. What stood out for me was RM's argument that as SPL CEO his job is to enact the wishes of the member clubs. Fair enough, thats still the case for Doncaster. So when we look at past events he was involved in, lets say the rejection of the Sky tv offer and the decision to explore SPL TV; this was the collective decision of the SPL member clubs, and it was Roger's job to deliver the message and try to negotiate on the SPL's behalf. Roger's time in Scottish football was therefore constrained, and the nuance of his argument was interesting and, in my view, a reasonable one, even though I think there was a fair amount of his own view and personality stamped all over some of these decisions made collectively by the SPL at the time. Its therefore even more interesting to see Roger only skim the surface of the facts in relation to Dave King and whether he is fit and proper. This is typical of Scottish football. Quite happy to point out the complexities and arguments for why their own actions were reasonable, but quite willing to boil down said complexities and nuance into easy Rangers-baiting soundbites when it suits. I do wonder why he has popped back up in recent weeks. Its not a coincidence I don't think. -
Agree that it doesn't matter who the thugs are as they are not indicative of either team's wider support; and also that it is also interesting how things are reported.

Average age of the squad may also be a factor. That and the way the Manager has made it clear that everyone in the squad needs to see a pathway to playing games must surely act as additional motivation for many. Whereas in the past we carried players for the sake of it, and would bring them in from cold storage when we picked up the inevitable injuries and suspensions.
