The speed and intensity of the game now creates its own challenges. @Bluedell's point stands however. -

There have always been players that seem to be unable to get out of bed without tweaking a hammy. eg. Darren "Sicknote" Anderton from the 90s. But in any case, look at the number of playing careers that can continue post knee op. We probably would have had wee Durranty back in the first team in 6 months if he had the Simpson tackle happened tomorrow. -
I thought it was an encouraging performance from Dowelll considering he hasn't played for a while. A welcome boost to our midfield options. So he gets my vote this time
-
Went Sterling too, but as much for his impact in recent weeks when we've needed someone to step up. Good timing young man!
-
Hard not to agree with Sakala's view that he could at least have been allowed the chance to say goodbye and to train with the squad, even if he wasn't part of the manager's plans. Its a harsh environment though, and freezing players out is probably more common than we realise, otherwise players might not be incentivised to direct their agents to get them a move and could well sit there running down their contract but with little chance of getting regular minutes.
-
Butland for me. His saves weren't spectacular per se, but he was in the right places at the right times to help us see the game out.
-
I got those, but I didn't understand what you meant about increasing our financial superiority over Celtic...
-
I think we can all understand that finances are tight but scepticism is understandable, especially given we have been told for 2 x AGM's in a row that this is being worked on and is a priority.
-
Good news. Now to kick on, young man!
-
What did I miss?
-
Wouldn't be surprise if this is his agents trying to work a better deal...

Nor has it been since Advocaat… which underlines your point in fairness. A good manager can get the best from the available resources. Arguably another Dutchman in Gio did that with the UEL final run.
-
Not an uncommon trait in Managers though.
-
Fair enough. I just wouldn't rule out a Dutch Manager, is all. Nor would I go looking for one specifically.
-
Reading a couple of posters saying that Dutch Managers don't tend to travel well outside of Holland. Off the top of my head, i can think of the following who all had more than reasonable levels of success out with their home nation. - Rijkaard - Koeman - Cruyff - Advocaat - Van Gaal - Hiddink Not suggesting that this is the level we are shopping for, and for every Cruyff there's a Martin Jol, but I'm not sure I'm buying this argument. @Sutton_blows_goats @Rousseau

Missed the game yesterday and given the reaction, it seems my blood pressure is the better for it. Domestic games after a European midweeks have always been tougher than they would otherwise be. We got the result, but reading this thread, my concern is growing. I haven't supported sacking Beale to this point, but I'm struggling to see if he's able to inspire/motivate players to run through brick walls. This soft underbelly just isn't going away, right at the time when we need to show a nasty streak. -

Potentially. Suspect we wont drop Goldson but if any of them drop out, it may well be Davies who I think may still need to be managed in terms of his previous injury record. -
There are a few candidates for me: - Butland: made several good saves and was assured; a second half flap was his only negative - Davies: rarely troubled and tidied up well - Goldson: dominant in the air and covered well - Lundstrum: more second half than anything, but he was crucial to getting the ball moving from the back, which we struggled to do for 35 mins first half - Matondo: a constant threat with his pace But for me it goes to Roofe, who led the line well and was a constant threat. He makes such a difference when we can keep him fit.
