Woah there horsey! Nothing about what I said was to say everything is fine, quite the opposite. When Bennett took over as Chair, and even prior to that as Vice-Chair, he was waxing lyrical about the player trading model being fundamental to our sustainability financially. That culminated in this summer's transfer window with millions of potential transfer revenue walking away when their contracts ended. Thats just one example of ineffective leadership within the club that has cost us significant sums of money unnecessarily.

Disagree. Leadership, judgement, professionalism, good governance, performance management. There are lots of things that happen in football clubs that don't cost money. Or at least, are more about the people we employ and how effective they are. For the financial year 2023, our wages to turnover ratio in terms of playing budget was 51%, calculated approximately as £42-43m. Compared to 2021 when we won the league under Gerrard, it was £33.5m. For me thats a pretty stark evaluation of how effective the likes of Robertson, Bisgrove and Wilson have been, at least since Gerrard left. Throwing money at the problem is no longer the solution, its about using the money we have much much better. Just look at Man United. They've a billionaire owner and they throw money around like confetti, but you wont find too many of their fans who are happy with recent performances.

Match Thread [FT] Malmo 0 - 2 Rangers (Bajrami 1; McCausland 76)

Some real positives for the manager manager last night, who has had to front up for the club in recent weeks more than he ought to. He's slowly coaching this group into a decent team; looking forward to building on this momentum. Agree with a lot of the positive comments about various players - Bejrami, Souttar, Diomande, etc; but the centre half union obliges me to comment on Propper who I thought was really steady and excellent on the ball. There were quite a few times where he pinged balls quickly between the lines as it broke to him, and it really put Malmo on the back foot just at moments where they were trying to press forward. -

Barron for me too. Was our best player in that opening 25 mins or so where we were dominant. Exactly the sort of energy we've missed of late.

Ouch. Thats a sore one, not least given the relatively soft draw that the other half of the old firm got last night. -

I might update my CV but one thing Rangers need is a strong internal audit function. I wrote a piece for Gersnet in our then regular column in the Seventy2 magazine about 10 years ago making this point. I'm sad to say that it is never more relevant. Ironically around 2 years after that, I got approached by a recruiter for the position as Head of Audit for Celtic! I politely declined, for obvious reasons, but it simply underlined just how far behind we were a decade ago in terms of good governance. As a for example, one thing I heard about the Copland Rd project is that at least one significant and local contractor, who are known club supporters, declined to tender for the work because the timescales that were required were unachievable. It seems the club/project team went and found a contractor who promised otherwise. A good internal auditor involved in monitoring the project would have challenged the decisions made by management and at the very least, shone a light on what was happening to the Board to enable the likes of Bennett to properly scrutinise what was going on, well before we got to the situation we are in now.

I'd say two, in fairness. 😁

It is, but there's not a lot to be optimistic about.
