  1. Takes one to know one.
  2. Shame on you, Craig. I'd rather my boys were gay!
  3. Cracking wee goal there from Braga. Big looping cross from the wing and the boy Cesar darted in front of the centre half (couldn't quite make out who it was) and a wee looping header past the despairing dive of Holy Goalie Mk2
  4. Yup.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8878719.stm
  5. Or, rather, an indictment on Celtic after getting pumped on Wednesday night. No CL means no reason to up sticks with his family.
  6. When I hear that we are 'trialling' an international player I am both encouraged and worried at the same time. Firstly, we are giving the player an opportunity to see what life is like at the club so that both parties can get a glimpse of how he fits in with the squad; and thus we can get an indication as to whether he will settle and be an effective player. But, on the other hand, what does it say about our scouting network that we can identify a player, yet do not have the confidence to make a bid. Have we not watched him, commissioned background reports, spoken to coaches and other contacts to find out his character and abilities?
  7. Maybe selling Bougherra wouldn't be so bad. His attitude is sometimes questionable and he's nearing the end of his contract so we may not have a better time to cash in. If we could get the readies in from his sale and that could, say, fund Walter to buy in 2-3 additional players of decent quality, that would be a good thing. Bougherra would be a difficult man to replace I would accept, but Walter's not done too badly at finding centre half's since his return so I reckon he could do it again.
  8. Nah, they'll still have the 'its fine, it means we can concentrate on the league' phase to go through first.
  9. He's done a decent job at Yorkshire CC as far as I can tell. He's overseen the redevelopment of Headingly and Yorkshire are playing pretty well at the moment in the county championship (top of Division 1 iirc). He at least appears to have some pedigree. Whether that translates into success running an antiquated organisation such as the SFA remains to be seen.
  10. Loving the fact that Lennon has been blaming the ref. Classy guy so he is!
  11. I tend to agree with Stevanovich on this one. If he's a player we want to have longer term, and we have a chance of getting him, regardless of the possibility of him being ineligble for the CL (rbr's post aside), I say go for it! I take the point about needing a full squad to pick from, but would it really be so bad if we had a striker ready to roll at the weekend having had an enforced rest during the week?

  13. Rangers' predicament parrallels the major economic discussions prior to and after the recent General Election. How much should be cut back to address our debt (deficit), and over what timescale should we be doing it? No-one denies we need to reduce our debt and, therefore, our reliance on Lloyds. But, similar to the economy which relies on growth for recovery, Rangers need investment in the playing squad to secure future income and to stand any chance of maintaining the success to which we have become accustomed.
  14. Think we sold them. Probably at a big loss too.
  15. One thing that stuck out for me, and I may have missed it, if it was stated elsewhere, was Bain's confirmation that we no longer have a deal with Lloyds to reduce our net debt by £1m per year. Was this not something that Johnson was stating unequiviocally around AGM time?
  16. As a general point, and not specific to Harewood per se, I can understand the need to look for experienced pros given the number of young players we are likely to see starting games regularly this season given the lack of depth in the squad.
  17. Steve Davis was an excellent loan deal but I generally agree. We have had so few loan deals that have been a success you have to question the wisdom of them.
  18. Testing out some material for the next Taxi?
  19. There was a formal stock exchange announcement iirc. Maybe the website needs to be updated.
  20. True. But at least they are players who are proven at domestic level and have some experience of European and international football.
  21. It is the speculate to accumulate method that has got us where we were today with Minty's borrowed millions so you can understand the aversion to risk. Trouble is, the same aversion is now eroding our playing staff more quickly than before. The gamble I see is that we are hoping to bring in players with wages at rates which are cheaper and cheaper, whilst hoping we retain the same/similar domestic success. I worry that we have gone too far this time.
  22. Lawwell showing his wheeler-dealer capabilities again. £1.5m for McManus is spectacular!
  23. I had a fleeting bout of optimism there. But then I remembered we still have no new owner and the bank still have too much of a say over our financial matters. I am never going on holiday again.
  24. And that's only looking at things from a domestic perspective. We can kiss goodbye to making any kind of impact on the Champions League. Jesus, pass me the Valium...
  25. I hope you are right Frankie. I guess the only silver lining could be that we will see more youngsters blooded and given a run in the team. It has been a long time coming, but it will likely lead to an inconsistency of performance if we cannot retain a solid core. It is for that reason that Boyd's goals and Thommo's grit, would have been essential for the season ahead.
