Walter Smith Says SPL Cannot extend the season - SSN
stewarty replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Memo to Walter: I'm sure we can rely on the SPL to honour the integrity of the league so please proceed in making arrangements for a fictional post-season tour to the far east.- 10 replies

Takeover latest: Ellis & Whyte in Scotland for MIH talks
stewarty replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I have a mixture of scepticism and optimism about the deal and the possible motives of those involved. However, right now, the prospect of being freed from Murray's reign, of getting rid of the debt and having some money to invest in the squad in January leaves with feeling pretty good. Mind you, the way we negotiate these days, it wouldn't surprise me for things to stall over some stumbling block or other.- 74 replies

Would he be welcomed back?

Interesting that he has not stated that the takeover proposals are not being taken seriously like last time. Not that I am suggesting this is some sort of conclusive proof or anything.

My laptop's playing up so if anyone fancies taking the Hearts preview for the weekend I would appreciate it. Quite happy to swap for another game.

That's a pretty fair article from Gordon Waddell.

On SSN as well

The idea of creating a fighting fund on its own is not a bad one - particularly if it was to help the likes of Nithsdale Loyal, I just think we ought not to go down the road of including a religious element to it. I am contemptuous of the Catholic Church and its influences (and of other religions too!) but I would be very wary of any fighting fund being set up with one of its main motives to fight against it. We are tarred with the sectarian brush enough without resorting to this - it would be used as a stick to beat us with.

Sorry mate. Firstly, whilst it suits the serially offended mindset to conflate this as a religious and footballing issue, it most certainly is not. Secondly, this is not our fight. Yes, we are involved by virtue of the refusal of certain officials and members of the press to outline the specific club(s) they have a problem with and thus implicate all clubs; and yes we have an interest in its outcome, but it most certainly is not about Rangers. We need to pick our fights carefully - there are those who seek to attack us for many other things. Thirdly, there is an old adage about not interrupting your opponent when he is making mistakes. We should sit back and see how things unfold.

Tannadice Pitch Inspection Planned
stewarty replied to Rangers Football Club's topic in Rangers Chat
I heard on the radio that the putch was playable but the condition of the surrounding area and walkways was the reason for calling off. Unless they planned in advance to have the place ploughed and gritted, surely they should have known this last night? Yet again fans are being treated pretty shabbily. -
It was an encouraging performance from the lad. Once he got over the big match nerves his performance improved. Good experience for him and given that he's now played at CL level, no reason at all why he should not be starting regularly in domestic fixtures, if for no other reason than to rest the first picks.

Rangers 0 - 1 Manchester Utd - Player Ratings and MoM Poll

Broadfoot gets my vote too. I was worried about Broadfoot facing Berbatov and Rooney when the team was announced but he played very well indeed. -
You can listen again to sportsound on the BBC website. I'm on my iPod at the minute so maybe someone else can provide the links. There was 2 hours of it and yes, the clown from CQN was surprisingly moderate compared to the views, paranoia and conspiracyhe peddles from his blog. Gordon Smith took him to task a couple of times, as did Kenny Clark and Stuart Dougal iirc.

Good work Barry. Been mooching around a couple of other fora in the last few days during the down time but glad to be back!

My initial reaction.... here we go again! Until pen is on paper, I am not going to get overly excited about this. I would expect some digging around this guy Whyte, his background and possible intentions to come forth in the next 24 hours once the initial euphoria dies down.

Scotland squad - Whittaker, Naisy selected
stewarty replied to Rangers Football Club's topic in Rangers Chat
If McGregor continues with recent form, there is no way Gordon should get the numbe -
Hopefully this is a signal that finally Walter will starting rotating the squad more regularly. That means more game time for the likes of Hutton, Fleck, Wylde, and possibly even McMillan, Loy and Perry. Its not going to be easy and we shall need to be patient with these lads instead of shouting at them when they make mistakes. As Walter said earlier in the week, it can take 2-3 seasons before younger players start to live up to their potential

Not had much chance to peruse the new upgrade. I can see it will take time to customise it to everyone's taste but its looking good so far. One feature I am missing though is the 'New Posts' tab. Maybe I've missed it though.

Only reason he is hurting is that he couldn't get his name on the 'og' column to make it 10!

Some strange decisions from the ref but none of them affecting the overall result. 3 points in the bag - ideal considering its following a CL fixture.
