Former Rangers gaffer Alex McLeish tells Ronny Deila:
Bearman replied to Bearman's topic in General Football Chat
Liewell may well be under pressure now...seems he's missed the boat which is staggering considering how far he put himself and his club ahead of his main rival - 'The Only Show in Town! Now that Rangers are almost sure of coming back up this year he's caught with his pants down rather embarrassingly! What will he do to confront this unforeseen problem? Too late bud -
That must be a 21'st Century thing ? Mr Struth lived in the 20th Century a Scottish only Poppy didn't exist surely ? I stand to be corrected.

Stunning pics...hat's off to who done that!!

...and Scottish Football itself has escaped such criticism, it's a dead duck bringing in how bad Rangers have been run without looking at the whole picture.

Even a domestic treble might not save you if Celtic crash out of Europe THE ex-Scotland boss thinks with Rangers out of the top flight that Celtic's record in Europe is paramount when judging success for the Scottish champions. Alex McLeish insists even a treble won’t be deemed a success for Ronny Deila if he fails to deliver in Europe for Celtic. The former Rangers boss was the last man to achieve the domestic clean sweep with the Ibrox club back in 2002. But McLeish doesn’t believe that in itself is enough for Hoops boss Deila with their Old Firm rivals out of the top flight. And that is why he says the Norwegian has to perform in continental competition to prove his worth in the Celtic hot-seat. Deila stayed on course for the Treble after booking a place in the League Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win at Hearts on Wednesday night. But the 40-year-old former Stromsgodset boss has failed in three attempts to reach the Champions League group stages and are currently bottom of their Europa League group after three games. And McLeish - the first manager to lead a Scottish club to the Champions League knockout stages - said: “When Celtic and Rangers were in the league together winning the treble would have compensated if things hadn’t gone to plan in Europe. “Maybe now what is much more important to Celtic is Europe. Europe is the big expectation and winning domestically is a bit taken for granted. They should be winning the three trophies domestically but I understand it’s easier said than done. “Even if you win domestically just now it might not be enough. The Treble should be within Celtic’s grasp because they are by far the biggest spenders in the league and have by far the strongest squad but for one reason or another they haven’t been able to do it.” McLeish came through a Champions League group with Inter Milan while Deila’s Hoops predecessors Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon masterminded Euro wins over AC Milan and Barcelona respectively. And former Scotland boss McLeish believes the calibre of opposition Deila has lost to - Maribor in last season’s Champions League play-off and Malmo this season - counts against him. The 56-year-old said: “I’m not going to speculate on Ronny’s future but he has got to beat these teams. At Celtic your spending power is probably bigger than theirs. “So is it then an indictment on the Scottish league that the Swedish league is better? That it is more competitive for Malmo. Is it more competitive in Norway for Molde? “These are the hurdles Celtic have to get over, starting in the next home game. I think Ronny has to be beating these teams. I’m not trying to put pressure on him. I just know, having been there as a manager, that would be the same expectation for me. “I’m sure Ronny would appreciate that coming from someone else who has been through that kind of situation. I know the expectation levels. In Scotland, domestic success is taken as read for Celtic at the moment. “That’s why everyone with Celtic in their hearts, and for Scottish football, needs Celtic to succeed in Europe and that’s the pressure that’s on them. It’s like down south if Arsene Wenger wins the League Cup, most Arsenal fans wouldn’t be happy with that. That wouldn’t be success in their eyes.” http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-rangers-gaffer-alex-mcleish-6731364

...sticking with Jim Forrest: He had a love affair with the League Cup, scored 50 goals from 37 appearances... 63/64: 16 from 10 (inc. 4 in the Final against Morton) 64/65: 18 from 10 (scored both goals in 2-1 win vs Celtic in the Final) 65/66: 10 from 10 (he did miss two gilt-edged chances though - before Celtic ran out 2-1 winners, both goals coming from penalty kicks 66/67: 6 from 7...Forrest got injured 11 days before the Semi Final against Aberdeen which was being played just 10 days before the Final, the game finished 2-2. 5 days later he missed out on the replay too, but Rangers won that 2-0. Forrest never recovered from his injury for the Final where we lost 0-1, again to Celtic. Nowadays, if you read the above about a player, you would probably be reading about Messi or Ronaldo.

You wonder how many Jim Forrest would have ended up with if he hadn't been blamed along with George McLean for that Berwick defeat. Forrest with 145 from 163 in just 3 and a half seasons kicked his last ball for Rangers at the ripe old age of 22. 4 months later Rangers played Bayern Munich in the CWC Final with defenders Roger Hynd and Dave Smith up front, losing 0-1 aet...Forrest's scoring record in European competition was excellent also - 6 (all in the European Cup in season 64/65) from 9 appearances (7 EC, 2 CWC)

The club with the highest audience should receive the largest cut, it's an SPFL deal, so what league they play in shouldn't come in to it.

Rangers warned they are unlikely to strike a compromise deal with Mike Ashley and Sports Direct RANGERS were today warned they have no chance of reaching an amicable agreement with Mike Ashley and Sports Direct over their “onerous” seven-year merchandising contract. An almost identical situation to Rangers exists at Newcastle United, the struggling English Premier League club which Ashley owns. Toon fans are deeply unhappy with the terms of a commercial deal about which few details are known and are refusing to endorse official club merchandise in in the same high numbers as they did in the past. But Michael Martin, a board member at the Newcastle United Supporters Trust and the editor of the True Faith fanzine, doubts Ashley will blink in his war with Rangers and Ibrox chairman Dave King. “I desperately hope that Rangers supporters get a hold of their club and get to run it the way they want to run it,” said Martin. “But I would be staggered if Rangers made any headway in changing those deals." He spoke out after King issued a strongly-worded statement following a board meeting at Ibrox on Tuesday accusing Sports Direct of “poor business practices” and “corporate governance failures”. King, who assumed control at the Championship club following the EGM he requisitioned back in March, also promised that the sports goods company will be “held accountable legally and financially”. The previous regime at Ibrox agreed to a deal which the Rangers Supporters Trust has calculated nets the Glasgow club only 75p for every £10 which is spent. That situation has led to widespread unhappiness among the Rangers support and to large numbers of disgruntled fans refusing to buy replica jerseys and official club products. King and his associates have been unable to arrive at a compromise with Sports Direct – despite vowing to greatly increase the number of strips the nationwide chain of stores sells if they do – at a series of meetings since seizing power. But Martin is highly doubtful Rangers will be able to negotiate with the enigmatic billionaire in the future. He added: “You would think that he (Ashley) would want to keep supporters onside so they buy his products, but that is not really his character. "He isn’t even interested in keeping his own shareholders at Sports Direct onside. That is his character. His policy seems to be ‘my way or the highway’. “I think it will come down to whoever blinks first with the legal bills, Sports Direct or Rangers. "But he has got unlimited funds to fight those actions whereas Rangers are desperate for commercial income so they can compete with Celtic again. “The thing is, for the amount of money involved at Rangers, it is quite small in the scale of his fortune. This guy is making his money out of sport, but seems to hate the nature of it.” Martin added: “In terms of the merchandising, Newcastle has an online deal with a company which has been set up called NUFCDirect.com. "That is run from Shirebrook where Sports Direct’s headquarters are and because Newcastle United isn’t a public limited company we can’t really find out who gets what. “We are shy of detail on that. The managing director, Lee Charnley, has said that it’s a great deal for Newcastle. But he would say that wouldn’t he?” “We are banging our heads against a brick wall. The Newcastle United Supporters Trust is one of the few members-only fans’ groups. It is unsurprisingly banned from attending the fans’ forum with the club."

....wish we could go another 234 days without his opinion! -
...to be sent to the Stand to the delight of the Media Wolves! Conspiracy or not? There is a large section getting on top now...do you agree with this? Do you agree with kicking someone who is down...? Rangers get this exclusively in Scotland. Wait until we move back up, then consider it more.

Maybe if the above happens we could bring McCoist back for a cameo appearance in the 1st old firm league game back under the Authority of RFC?

Bolton are bottom under the guidance of Mr Angriest man with teeth...he'll have an eye coming back up here giving the grey hoops are discontented with Delia. Warburton vs World's Angriest Man should be interesting.

'The Special One'? Personally I don't want to see that happen as I like the guy and the EPL wouldn't be the same without him. He has the ability to bring a smile to the peoples faces...even still, when the plot is looking very lost.

Mark Warburton has called on football to adopt the touchline video monitor system utilised during the Rugby World Cup. Unhappy with the lack of protection offered to on-loan winger Nathan Oduwa against Livingston by referee Andrew Dallas in midweek, the Rangers manager attended a meeting of clubs and referees’ chief John Fleming yesterday afternoon. He is of the view that officials need help rather than abuse and favours football following the lead of rugby and tennis by introducing a review system for contentious decisions. The imperfections of rugby’s TMO system were illustrated when under-fire South African Craig Joubert wrecked Scotland’s World Cup quarter-final hopes against Australia and was denied a second look at his erroneous ofiside decision. But a sympathetic Warburton said: ‘You look at the Rugby World Cup and what happened with the incident in the Australia game and the furore that caused and the back-page headlines it created. 'If there are ways to avoid those type of incidents then you’ve got to take them. ‘All sport is getting faster, quicker, stronger. Look how hard it is. You watch an incident in a football match and you watch it a dozen times and still half the panel are saying left and half are saying right. ‘How hard is it for these guys when they have half a second to make a decision? It’s so difficult for them. 'So he or she has got to be given every bit of assistance, it’s as simple as that and we have got to find ways of helping these people.’ FIFA has other issues occupying its time currently. But Warburton believes TMO or video replays are an inevitable part of football’s future at a time when the standard of Scotland’s referees is a fevered topic. I don't agree with Warburton...Rugby may have rules in place but Football should carry on as is and refs being crowded by players adds to the drama where I'm concerned. Hope Rangers develop the 'trend' of all the best teams in Europe and 'challenge' the refs errors. Rugby is only for silly people who have a death wish.

Hope it isn't something bad that's happened in his family.

I'm surprised the SPFL or the SFA haven't intervened in this case...why should I be surprised? OK. I'm angry as opposed to being surprised. Two brutal attacks on our player(s) yet the silence from the organisers in charge is the main focus. Scotland's coefficient has bombed for one reason: Too much concentration on 'how to bury the most successful club' instead of more important issues like...our game is crap, let's sort this out chaps. It's no surprise Scotland's coefficient has dwindled more than any nation in Europe bar two, this country is more concerned with wiping out Rangers and it's all down to bigotry.
-
A lot of folk like to 'up' the game of rugby and try to compare it with football like 'we' should follow their standards? Anyone else see the ref in the recent Scotland/Australia World Cup match where he 'hot footed' from the park? I'm sure you did. Stop comparing Rugby to Football, it isn't the same apart from the referees.
-
Nope! Why allow the officials to 'do their job' if they make a blunder of magnitude proportions? Players surrounding the blundering ref is acceptable in when I watch games...if a ref makes a wrong decision then it's natural for players to 'hound' him...watching as a fan I like it when players 'bicker' at the dumb ref who isn't up to the job. Dallas on Tuesday made many errors yet our players stood by without commitment. Chelsea just moan about everything so there's no point in bringing them into the debate.
-
No pleasing some folk...hit and hope? Clarky was crying for the pass from Wallace which was delivered..he finished it with aplomb. Your view doesn't matter mate...Nicky Clark is a proper striker as is Hardie, but MW doesn't think he's quite ready yet.

Dallas. BH is an ex-referee you know.
