  1. Things you might not have known about the Youdan Trophy... The Youdan Cup was an association football competition played in Sheffield. Predating the FA Cup by four years, it was the first ever competition in the sports history. The competition took its name from a local theatre owner, Thomas Youdan, who sponsored the competition and provided the trophy. The format of the competition was drawn up by a committee and played under Sheffield Rules. The competition used the concept of 'rouges'. A rouge was scored when an attempt at goal (using a goal only 4 yards wide) missed, but would have gone into a 12 yard wide goal: rouges were only considered in the case of a drawn match. The first round was competed by twelve teams on 16 February 1867, with the six winners entering into the second round. Of the three second round winners, Hallam and Mackenzie met in a semi-final, while Norfolk were awarded a bye to the final. The final took place on 5 March 1867 and attracted 3,000 spectators, each paying 3d admission. Hallam defeated Norfolk by two rouges to win the competition. The trophy was subsequently lost and did not resurface again until 1997, when a Scottish antiques collector contacted Hallam F.C. to tell them that he was in possession of it - they subsequently bought it back for £1,600. Since then it has been valued to be worth at least £100,000 by silver specialist Alastair Dickenson of the BBC programme Antiques Roadshow, although the owners have insisted it is not for sale.
  2. Got to agree with that mate, it even had cup holders
  3. Vuckic will go to QPR in part exchange for Charlie Austin unfortunately for us.
  4. It's not their team compo, it's ours.
  5. That Bruce's team bus that got torched was a gem...reg plate was clever too R1 WTP, do rangers own that plate?
  6. With Rangers growing by the minute and Wee Strach having an impact as things stand maybe England will find Scotland more than just cannon fodder forthcoming. Things change look at Wales for example even Greece have hit the depths then there's NI who no longer look like whipping boys. Scotland the minnows with Baxter and Law showed the way in the past, nothing suggests England with Rooney or Sterling can guarantee easy qualification far from it. England have an excellent opportunity of qualification by finishing second. Then there's Slovenia and Slovakia...DRAT!!!
  7. The poster Gribz must be floating on air tonight, first Rangers score six then his favoured English team do likewise in the Emirates Cup. Six different goal scorers into the bargain, Giroud 29, Oxlade-Chamberlain 34, Iwobi 35, Ramsey 38, Ozil 62 and Cazorla 85. Rangers look a good bet to win the Title and Arsenal fans will be thinking the same of their team. Granted Arsenal have a tough ask, but that result today sends out a message. Wonder how Man U will get on against Barca tonight after Man C's emphatic 1-4 defeat against Real the other day?
  8. Next weeks predictions should be very interesting

  10. How does the European draw work? Russia have already qualified as hosts, and the other 52 member nations have been split into six pots based on Fifa's July rankings. Gibraltar are not involved as they are not a member of Fifa, despite being a Uefa member. The nine top seeds in Europe - including Wales and England - will first be drawn into a group. For TV rights purposes, England, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands will be drawn into groups of six teams, as will Italy and France from pot two.

  12. This is on the STV site... “It was further alleged that the breach was an “Aggravated Breach” as defined by Rule E3(2). “Broadfoot was also fined £7500 and ordered to complete an education programme.” A breach of Rule E3(1) is an “Aggravated Breach” where it includes a reference, whether express or implied, to any one or more of the following :- ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, religion or belief, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation or disability. Asked by STV which element of the Aggravated Breach rule applied in Broadfoot’s case, the FA declined to comment. http://sport.stv.tv/football/1325264-kirk-broadfoot-hit-with-10-game-ban-by-fa-for-aggravated-verbal-abuse/?
  13. That's incorrect Pete, Rangers paid Coventry £80,000 at the beginning of March to stop 10 in a row - it worked
  14. Yeah, Young was actually brought in to replace 'Bud' Johnston who was serving a 9 WEEK ban and was getting sold anyway. Stein's replacement 4 days later was an ageing Joe Mason, signed from Morton All this just 5 months after winning the '72 CWC Final.
  15. £90,000 + Quinton Young
  16. ...and worth every penny. Not forgetting the £1 million for 'The Goalie' also worth every penny.
  17. ...co-efficient takes another battering. Vectra 0-0 ICT F-T
  18. I'm sure I read somewhere that reaching the cup final won't be enough, the higher placed league club gets favour over the runners-up, we'll need to win it I think.
  19. H-T Astra 0-0 ICT....(1-0 Agg)
  20. Neither can I... surprised the Record would print something like that?
  21. I sadly found that entertaining
  22. It's just as well Scottish football's TV deal is crap, if it had been double what it is now our 1.60% share would have given us just over half a million with C*ltics 13.40% share earning almost £5M!
  23. What does that mean? What needs to happen to make him have to serve these other 2 games?
