Champions League Play-off round Draw: USG/Rangers v Monaco/PSV
buster. replied to buster.'s topic in Rangers Chat
Yes, especially if the tie was to be played next week. But the games will be played in August. Probably without some our European stalwarts and with some new faces trying to get up to speed. This increases uncertainty. Time will tell. Coming off the back of 55,.... Malmo looked very beatable. After our 92/93 exploits, we got dumped by a very beatable Levski Sofia and that was that. After Manchester 2008, we got dumped by an exceptionally beatable Kaunas and that was that. The positive this time is that we are guarranteed Group Stage football for the fifth consectutive year regardless of how we do in the qualifiers. Hopefully, the progress will continue and it will be Champions League. -

As Thinker says above, ELGS. Didn't want to elaborate too much regards Play Off Round until we get there #bad juju ps. yes, it is the same for both. -
We enter in the 3rd round of qualifiers (non-champions path) and the draw is on the 18th of July. We are seeded Seeds Benfica Rangers Dinamo Kiev PSV Eindhoven Non-Seeds Monaco Midtjylland Sturm Graz Union Saint-Gilloise https://kassiesa.net/uefa/seedcl2022.html Of the 7 other teams involved, I can remember playing them all other than Union St.G. Of the 4 possible opponents, we drew both Sturm Graz and Monaco in the same CL group back in 2000. Despite aggregate wins against both, we were eliminated from the group. In fact, probably our best ever first two games in a group were a 5-0 home win against the Austrians, followed up by a 0-1 away win in Monaco (I think Gio scored the goal). For older Bears, PSV (1978) and Kiev (1987) were both notable victories. Benfica (2 draws) and Midtjylland (7-3 agg.win) were more recent encounters with SG in charge. Qualifying for CL Play-off round would ensure somewhere in the region of at least 7M Euros. - 5M pay-out for losers of play off round - Other benefits (including home gate) Losing CL3Q would put us straight into the EL Group stage First leg will be August 2 or 3 Second leg August 9 Draw for CL Play-Off Round will be on August 2 https://kassiesa.net/uefa/calendar2022.html .

Those on the Pedantic Smarty Pants Content Double Team have put in a long shift today. They were also busy on the Pacific Quay thread first thing this morning. Remind me of a couple of those wee yappy dugs, who seem to exist to annoy folk.

Gonzo, old boy.......don't take things so personally and let the thread breath.

Spare a thought for the work 'R1-0' puts into the predictor league....and he must have spent ages looking for a way of presenting a table that had him at the top. 😉😁

One of the best threads on here, ever IMO. 26th, you either inspired the team to a European Final or your timing is spookily good 😁

I don't know if I have ever heard Cosgrove in his Off the ball slot, to be so transparently bitter, contrived ('Barack Obama running a bus' involved) and desperate to push a customary narrative,......and that is saying something. After nineteen years, the batteries of the Suville calculator have finally run out. Yesterday, Cosgrove said the Suville calculator "...is dead, no-one cares about it anymore...". Apparently he is sick of over-exaggeration and it took 19 years until the threshold was reached, so he had to comment and call time on such a device. Obviously, he didn't send this memo to Jane Dougall and her line about 250,000 rioting in Manchester. They seem to want it both ways. For those who would like to hear exactly what was said (not compulsory and please don't bore the world with the repetitive 'why would anyone want to listen to that' line) it comes up at 1hr 44min 45sec into the link below) https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0017l2q

Lowry to score and a 4-0 FT would do nicely. Sakala usually gets a late goal in the Scottish Cup. -

Rangers 3 Hearts 1 FGS: Derek Johnstone

Aye, but you mentioned other Bears. To give his insights, 26th has to listen to it.
-
You can't have it both ways.

Cowan's dig about throwing chairs was bad enough and badly received by Catriona Shearer but Cosgrove took it to a new level of trying to squeeze blood from a stone. I think all the usual suspects were so geared up to have a go at the Rangers support after Sevilla, that they couldn't properly digest and register the good behaviour and clean sheet of arrests, zero.
-
Cosgrove has just outdone himself trying to cast a slur on the Rangers support in Sevilla. The link below is the live feed. To listen to the slur scroll back to 1245 Catriona Shearer is the guest https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_radio_scotland_fm

I'd have thought Chelsea will either extend his contract or look to move him on this summer. Gilmour really needs to be playing regular first team football, so he might be happy to move on, if he can find the right club. 15M, not sure, but he wouldn't come cheap. If he were to go on loan, then yes, would be an excellent signing.

Won't be until somewhere between team lines and KO that I'll get up for this. A team featuring Alex Lowry would help me get there. 3-1 seems to be a popular score in the predictor. Back in 1976, Derek Johnstone scored from the preverbial Tommy McLean cross after 44 seconds, in a 3-1 victory. DJ was only 22 years old but a full six years prior to this, he had scored the winner in a national cup final. If you are good enough, you are old enough. Alex Lowry merits a start. -
Would that be Skullduggery ? 😁

I get the point you make but in the case of Ryan Jack, he has a contract and where would he pass a medical and be given a similar wage ? As far as I see it, if he is contributing positively, in say 50% of games, that is better value than paying him off. Come the end of his contract, there is obviously no extension. What bugs me is bringing players to the club who are heavily 'injury prone'. In the last window, we signed Souttar on a Bosman and Ramsey on loan. Ramsey has hardly contributed (I point the finger at our recruitment, not Ramsey). With Souttar, time will tell. But you can't reasonably expect or depend on him to stay fit for long periods and hence management of his ankles/hip will more likely follow. I'd expect better from what won't be a cheap recruitment set-up. They might argue that their hands have been tied by relatively small budgets and while that will obviously limit options, I don't think bringing in several players who have a bad injury record will ever give a net positive. For every Goldson, you get more who are out as much as they are in, eg. Roofe, Helander, A more general point is that after several poor transfer windows, our recruitment has to up it's game considerably this summer. You would imagine that Gio will be supported as he will need to begin a re-build. We need to get that right or a bumpy ride will follow.

The European Conference League gives teams at our level an increased chance of winning something in Europe. Basically doubles the possibility. -

Money gives you an opportunity to improve. If spent badly and/or kept in the biscuit tin it won't improve you on-field. You speak of 12 seasons. I count only four CLGS participations for them in that timeframe. None since 2018 and recently the money has increased. I think they have made more money (gross) from player trading.
