The one thing for sure is that your manager shouldn't be announcing that it's impossible to compete. He is prioritizing trying to make excuses for himself, over what remains of CL campaign.

No, we aren't going to beat the really big teams unless all the stars align in our favour BUT we are entitled to see our team give it their best shot. Apparently Lewandowski has scored 32 goals in his last 20 CL group games. Rangers have scored 15 in our last 20.
  3. If you can't see the problems our squad has, you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near tactics. 😄
  4. A new manager might have a bounce but it wouldn't last. The problems run deeper.
  5. On top of money, we lack leadership. Much of the squad is stale. Changing manager might give bounce (as Gio end of 2021) but that wouldn't last. This squad has too many players who have proven themselves to be capable of occasional motivation and a blowout is never far away. The manager seems unable to get basic instructions across and seems to lack inspiration and to a degree, respect. We are becoming a different version of Celtic in Lennon's last season but there are some similarities. The league is gone and we will be out of Europe prior to Xmas. So with that in mind you have to look forward and start planning. The question the board have to ask themselves is How do we win our next league title? Just as it was when they appointed SG. The only viable way forward is to put more faith in our best youths and aim to have a squad made up with around 40 to 50% of our own or others youngsters (eg.Lovelace/Millwall). A suitable manager for this remit is required. The old buy our way out of trouble isn't a realistic option. Good communication with the support is needed. We'd need more patience than usual.
  6. Given circumstances, not so sure it would be seen as a carrot The problems with the squad, time until next window opens and limited finance will mean the job won't be as attractive a proposition as we think. At least for sought after managers They often prefer taking over in the summer. Eg. Murty/Nichol/Gerrard
  7. The malaise is deeper than we thought. It has penetrated the Gersnet predictor 😉
  8. Many clubs do it. The problem is that for whatever reason, we are useless at it and for whatever reason, don't seem to learn and improve.
  9. My correct number of Rangers goals point is missing. Same for MalansG @Rousseau
  10. A lot of column inches about spending more money but this is currently about application, effort, determination, basic defending and desire.
  11. If you don't drop a guy when he plays poorly, why drop him when he does nothing wrong?
  12. Tav was injured and media duties were rightly given to someone else. Plus, the mgmt wouldn't have wanted him being asked for details on playing through his injury. Goldson is the obvious alternative (as Captain) but it is telling that no one is really considering him. Tav remains by default, more than anything else. Although, it remains to be seen how long he is out for. Playing through an injury can often make it worse (ask Morelos). Has Lundstram been doing the same ?
  13. SG arrived in 2018 and was allowed to build his team/squad over several seasons. We did progressively well in Europe and eventually won the League in his third year in charge. We didn't build on that success and develop the team/squad as SG wanted. The budget within a harsh economic enviroment (pandemic) was limited. Could we have made more of an effort to wheel and deal (ie. sell then buy) ? Would it have been cheaper to do so than let it get to this stage ? Hindsight but probably. So the team pretty much stayed the same into a 4th year which should have been a year of consolidation as Champions (given state of Celtic and their bad start) and automatic qualification into CL. Gio was appointed after SG left in the Autumn and started well. The same team blew the league, just as they habitually blow the league, post winter break. They could still get motivated for Europe and got to a European Final. Many assumed a summer of rebuild that Gio would bring in players that suited his way of playing. Freshen things up, time to call a day on some Rangers careers. No, it didn't happen. This isn't hindsight, said it months ago... We have continued with broadly the same team and it has become stale. We have forced this by allowing the squad to become a home for too many old and chronically injured footballers. We have poured fire on it by signing the likes of the injury prone John Souttar, who is injured. Having an unbalanced and semi-effective squad will be a challenge to change, in more ways than one. We also have a manager and coaching team who have shown themselves to be occasionally brilliant but generally, insiped, uninspiring and unable to find solutions. Communication between squad and mgmt doesn't seem to be working as it should. Despite what the manager says about what they do in training, not learning from the mistakes. It has become a pattern and now is accompanied by a lack of desire, hunger and energy. A bad mix, that tends to lead to the manager being changed. Can a new manager come in and do better with the same squad ? In the short term, yes.....not difficult really (see when Gio arrived) But medium to long term, same problems will emerge until the squad is purged and SG's team is moved on. One last point, those in charge of the football operation should have seen this coming and acted accordingly.
  14. Haven't heard it but if what you are saying is accurate..........do you let the wound bleed ? edit Listening to interview on radio Doesn't sound like a beaten man yet but not inspiring.
  15. We need to show determination, desire and fight first.
  16. Too many of the squad have been kept on for too long. Too many need managed due to chronic injury or some other thing. Too many don't look like they want to be here / play for Gio. Pattern : Not learning from mistakes (Not listening to coaching staff/manager ?) Manager doesn't look like he has it in him to turn this around.
  17. Probably carrying an injury that was rumoured last week.
  18. No, choice for the manager is limited. Some players look that they have chucked it / don't want to be there.
  19. Limited options tonight down to injuries and poor squad management
  20. Echos of Celtic's implosion of 2 years ago coming into view.
  21. Wouldn't be very confident of that !! Are players listening to the manager ? They make mistakes and don't learn from them. Too many players who are stale.
  22. We have the shadow of Ryan Jack or an overweight, unprofessional centre forward.
  23. Hysteria Part II coming to a messageboard near you........
  24. Nobody within 2 yards of the goalscorer in a packed area. Quite difficult to manage that.
  25. Pattern forming of repeating mistakes, not learning from them.
