When one of the issues is mentality, you have a fundamental problem When some don't appear as they want to be there, you are restricted in choice When too many are chronically injured or old, you are further restricted in choice When you repeatedly come out of transfer windows without improving starting XI, you are going backwards When the average of your team is touching 30, you lack vibrance and energy When you have a manager who isn't a strong leader added to the above, it is only going one way.
-
The GVB question centres on if he is capable of winning a league title. I think we need really strong leadership from a manager and I don't see it with GVB. Who comes in ? Finances ? Difficult questions that will probably see Gio stay on, but we know where this movie is heading.
-
He might for about 6 or 7 games or until the winter break. I don't even think the question of blame is........... manager/coach or squad. Substitute the or for and. The squad is patently not good enough other than when occasional motivation kicks in. The manager doesn't convince me either but when the recruitment is as poor as it has been (in short term regards recent summer window) then he hasn't a functional paddle.
-
Probably having treatment again. If so, it was right not to send him out and have him standing around.
-
Our squad management has been poor. We have hung on to too many players for too long. We have recruited poorly for several windows, with the odd exception. We have too many players who need managed due to chronic injury problems/age. The way this season is going was predictable and in some ways resembles Celtic of two seasons ago. We are capable of the odd performance, but you know too many in this squad just can't do consistency and that is why the League is already gone, IMO.

The CL group is just way above the level this group of players can get to and will provide further heavy setbacks. It is getting to the stage where it is pretty much a write off. Last game at home to Ajax will probably be our best chance of getting close to points. Gio did exactly that with Feyenoord in the CL, 5 losses, then a win on MD6. Dropping points domestically is what would hurt him more.

We have had a team/squad who over a few years have grown in European football with the pinnacle coming last May and the EL Final. However many of that team/squad are past their sell by date for this club and that has coincided with upping the level to the CL (probably our most difficult European group ever). A double whammy, the numbers get embarrassing and it won't change at Anfield. The CL is now a higher level than it was 10-15 years or so ago. Extreme capitalism at work

Not as bad as the scoreline suggested or at least it didn't sound that way on radio. At least we were in the game before the Sands red card.
-
You are whistling in the wind because thems the roolz.
-
No they didn't. McGregor saved the second.
-
Encroachment comes before penalty is kicked
-
Not able to see this so you'll be glad to know I can't say much about what has happened thus far. HT Scoreline is very acceptable Sounds as we are at least up for it which was the fundamental ask for tonight.
-
National Anthem came over well on the radio. Fine for late KO Fine for political statement or whatever it is called Sounds like it should be 1-1 all ready.

Old Guard or Home Guard ?

Has Jack recovered some sharpness or is Gio a gluten for punishment ?

gpl predictions (image) Bluebear54's GPL 2022/23: Rangers vs Napoli
buster. replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Rangers 1 - 3 Napoli Morelos -
I wouldn't go that far. Womens beach volleyball league and a cool drink, played a couple of stones throw from my house would have to do for me. If it wasn't for Rangers, I would have given up football long ago.
-
All stitched up, agreed. But I won't be taking the option of tuning into the big leagues but I guess I'm in the age bracket that they ain't very concerned about.
-
McGregor Tav............Goldson........King................Barisic .....Sands................Kamara Lundstram .............................................................Kent ....Morelos............................. ...Colak Safe to say, that won't be the team. Arfield on for Lundstram, who will or should be knackered covering the whole pitch, after 60/65 minutes. Tav to defend against the Georgian Maradona by attacking on one leg.

It is the biggest stage of club football in the world. Not the place to put down the tools or not bother your arse. You'd think they'd bust a gut, even if only for their own ego or after the call from their agent. Make a fcuking name for yourself gentlemen. That covers effort but leaves set piece organisation to Gio. Still, the same as above applies to a degree. Surely players will be receptive to extra coaching that may prevent them from looking like complete haddies, again.

No, @JohnMc is right. Had it only been the European Cup era, London wouldn't have been included as only Spurs had reached a EC semi-final. I missed the most obvious of the lot in Manchester 👎 Need to get the man who really knows about European football on the case in the future @Fat Eck

A stat following on from above post. Younger readers will be amazed to read that BOTH Dundee clubs have not only played in the European Cup (once each). Sit down, but have BOTH reached the semi final of said European Cup. BOTH beaten by Italians (AC Milan & Roma) We got to one old EC semi-final in about 13 attempts (Eintracht, 1960). Not good enough. So does that mean Scotland have more cities than England that have two clubs who reached a EC semi-final ? Glasgow, Dundee London

Goalscorers that night Duncan, Quinn, Cormack, Stanton and Colin Stein. Stein had scored their solitary goal in Italy. He would also score their only goal in a 2-1 aggregate defeat to an excellent Leeds team. Leeds would then knock us out in the Quarters, 2-0 agg. Dundee in the semi's, 2-1 agg. Before lifting the Inter Cities Fairs Cup against Ferencvaros. Not much in the way of air miles for Leeds to win that trophy.

Could do with a more motivational tune for this game. The French and the Welsh home crowd knock out belters prior to the six Nations games.
