According to oddschecker, 1/5 with Wm.Hill...= market still uncertain ie. level/weight of current speculation would seem to correspond with bookies not taking further bets....but they haven't all closed the book. So, maybe it isn't as cut and dry as some seem to think. For this game, it's important what the Aberdeen players know/think. They've not done well since speculation started. My guess is that regardless of speculation, their pride will have been hurt. One positive stat for them is that they have won the match immediately after their last 12 defeats.......13 unlucky ?

I happen to share DK's view on this. You have to manage risk in difficult circumstances and I don't think that allows us to take a punt on an unknown from abroad that could be termed as 'viable'. It would be fair to say that it was down to the previous bad appointment (here DK/the board should own up to a major F-up) that now the risk factor is higher.....but if nothing else, learn from it and don't repeat the same mistake. There are certainly managers out there that would be better, but they aren't viable.
-
IF we get a second win, there would be a good argument to suggest that the long managment chase and ensuing speculation has produced a net gain.
-
I think it's the consistency of results that have brought the sheep several consectutive second places that make McInnes a better fit. That and the fact he already has hands-on experience of the demands that a Rangers player faces. Wright has done a great job in Perth and I'd prefer him to some of the 'sexier names' that have been mentioned. --------------- We have to realise where we are at present and how the manager market will perceive the Rangers job. Until we stabilize, re-build further and put ourselves in a position where we can actually challenge, rather than just expect to....then that will remain the case.
-
There don't appear to be many and the obvious concern is if we were to approach Aberdeen/McInnes, that he said no.
-
As you say, the need for stability and re-building means Advocaat would be very unlikely. Re. Stability: One of the positives about McInnes is that if he were to sign a contract, he'd more than likely, fully intend to see it out.......rather than be willing from the outset to use us as a stepping stone. He spent 4 years at St.Johnstone, got the team promoted to the top tier (something Owen Coyle hadn't been able to do). At Bristol City, he joined (in the October) with them bottom of league and kept them up. Following season went badly and he was sacked. People talk of mitigating circumstances re. state of club but I don't know to what extent they apply. He's been 4 years at Aberdeen and has built an effective sqaud on relatively little money, which is capable of a consistency that brings 2nd place. (Best win % since Alex Ferguson). Only one League Cup win. 10 years of management and only one sacking.
-
For all those who don't fancy McInnes,...... name a viable candidate with extensive knowledge of the British/Scottish game that you would prefer.
-
Express Journalist seems to be the latest https://twitter.com/Bruce_Archer89 Rangers set to make an approach for Derek McInnes after Sunday's match #RangersFC --------------------- If we do, be prepared to pay the compo up front (as the sheep would almost certainly insist upon),.... McInnes had better say yes.
-
If the rumours have a solid base then how can the sheep allow him to take charge of the team on Sunday ?
-
Some very positive percentages. Perhaps some of the 'Easdale Block' didn't bother voting on all the resolutions.
-
Caution:...Let the lad have some air. Jamie Ness played an OF game at Ibrox where he reminded me of Baxter and then.......... edit ( footage of Baxter)

McInnes in the Ibrox dug-out and 3 points to Rangers ! What's not to like ?

The Scotsman - Why Weren’t Aberdeen Awarded A Penalty?
buster. replied to StuGers's topic in Rangers Chat
It's the M.O. of a lot of newspapers+ to court controversy for their own commercial benefit. That means more often than not, centering attention on issues that concern us or them. Thereafter, people can judge if there is a consistency of a one-sided opinion/selection of issues to feature. eg. IMO, the DR and BBC Scotland go out of their way to show Rangers and certain individuals at the club in a bad light. ------------------------- What has happened in the last few years is that many of the 'diddy clubs' fans have become more anti-Rangers, opposed to previously view both big clubs with fairly equal disdain. This means that when newspapers think about (potential) customers that if they were to pick a side for commercial reasons, it wouldn't be us. -
The McCrorie v Pena sprint was a one-sided contest ..... but Pena eventually arrived at the right time, so as to be able to recycle the ball and pass it to a blue shirt. That one incident illustrated that Pena will do a job IF others bust a gut. If a new manager has good man-management skills and can communicate with the Mexican and persuade Carlos to buy into a project, become fitter and want to be involved (Derek: I'm available for hire as translator/ very reasonable rates ) ,....then we have a Mexican Internationalist on our hands. Thereafter, the problem may switch to him having to take long flights to play for Mexico on International breaks..... ....mibbes thats a tad optimistic for a cycnical bastard like me.

When DK talked about "available candidates" he was referring to managers not currently in a job. He said that when initially looking at such a list, it was only when Mark Allen had discounted so many names because of them not matching the current criteria required that he saw it to be a list that wasn't as strong as he had at first envisaged it would be. ie. He wasn't referring to McInnes but somebody like McLeish can consider himself not to meet 'the criteria'. ---------------------------- Listen carefully to the interview (relevant section starts at 4 minutes 50 seconds) https://rangers.co.uk/news/rangers-tv/video-chairman-interview-4/
-
If the rest of the team work as hard as they did last night then you can afford to have Pena in the side and hope for him to do something in and around the box. If they don't, you can't. Could do with the team playing well and him getting games. The more match-fit he is, the less we should need 'to carry' him.
-
A pointless fact from the League 2016/17 If you take Warburton's Home record and Pedros Away record, we only lost one league match.
-
When we score goals, we aren't shy and often get a few. In the league, we've scored 3 or more........ in 7 out of 15 matches (for celtic, it's 5 out of 14). Last season it was 1 out of the first 15 league games. Our problem has been 3 zeros and twice scoring 1 goal......In all five matches dropping points. Problem is inconsistency Other thing is a lack of clean sheets (4).....celtic (8)

IIRC Kevin Kyle said on radio shortbread that negotiations were literaly Rangers coming in with an offer way over what he was prepared to accept. # Bainesque
-
You'd have to have a very long memory as to when we last got value for money for the clubs players collective salaries/contracts. It's usually more a matter of mitigating the damage. ---------- That's why given circumstances and projections, a different approach isn't only to be talked about (as far as we usually get), but needs to be implemented.
-
Is that John Redwood sitting beside the winner of the female Andy Cameron lookalike contest ?
-
I know as much as the next man, nowt....but McInnes would be my preference from the viable options that I can see. But without knowing who is on the short-list, it's a moot point.
