  1. I just hope the WC provides us with some entertaining football. HT is to stretch legs, put the kettle on, go to the fridge, take the dug oot and not to listen to the ramblings of the usual suspects about something you already know. I think back to previous WC's and think of games, not coverage although the one thing that has stuck in my mind was a tune from the BBC coverage of Italia '90..............
  2. I got up this morning hoping that this thread may have been sent to somewhere that the player in question might have been given a ticket for. I'm sure that O'Hallaron would have went to Coventry given that he doesn't seem to bother checking any details on tickets
  3. Three most important phrases in that article ....probably won't be........ ........he may stay at............ ......might focus on........... Quotes supplied are in short supply and are limited to one word...."willing" so context isn't apparent unless you believe the source that can't quote a full sentence. Translated it means..........We don't know but will write this anyway to try and maximise clicks because we know football fans have an insatiable desire to read about transfer speculation.
  4. Good lad and good luck to him .......... He even got a smile out of Alfredo !! Anyone seeing this guy getting taken round Ibrox would have probably thought themselves to have joined the ITK club as they went off to their messageboard of choice to tell the world about this new signing that the 4lads didn't even know about yet
  5. Yes, regular CL participation is a gamechanger. Both in short-term revenue (UEFA and TV pyts/gates) and in the medium term (profile wrt resale value of player registrations/sponsership deals). The increasing financial disparities between clubs in most of the leagues means a natural continuation of this is a European Super League of sorts. Celtic are trying to lobby and position themselves to be knocking at such a door if it were to happen. We need to try and up our game considerably in an effort to improve our lot and thus bring them downwards. Or in other words, we need to start winning leagues and getting CL football as soon as possible.
  6. Ignore 99% of the rhetoric and follow the money.
  7. It meant that the club had more power, the registration of the player maintained it's value (obviously dependent on form/age). Clubs like Dundee Utd. who had probably the best youth set-up in Scotland at the time got fees/market value for their players and not compensation tribunals setting relatively low numbers (although there was some karma wrt Charlie Telfer move ). You mentioned Hibs, the Bosman ruling is probably going to cost them a couple of million on John McGinn.
  8. It was Lustig who made the Barcelona comment. Rodgers prefers to stay in his comfort zone of the domestic game and limits talking about European references. He'll be going for a Treble 7 next season,....ie. getting hammered by seven goals for the third season IAR.
  9. I think it was during the 80's when there was a significant rule change regards gate receipts that had a huge effect on this. Clubs would keep home gate receipts for league games instead of what they had done previously, ie. sharing them. Over a season this would give both us and them a significant revenue adavantage over the rest. It was also pre Bosman and clubs like Dundee Utd, who had an excellent football operation were able to take full advantage.
  10. A 2007 version of Walter would be perfect but given the benefit of our time machine, we could ask him to leave Ally McCoist with Sue Barker.
  11. Given the budget say Mourinho has at ManUtd,....surely his brand of honking football is less understandable and more deserving of criticism, especially at a club with such a reputation for a expansive and attacking play. Allardyce has cornered a niche market that pays extremely well and often allows for several free months a year. There won't be many born in 1954 that failed their Eleven Plus doing so well !!
  12. Marco Asensio at 22 would be ideal
  13. What Rodgers or McInnes says doesn't really matter, we should simply be concentrating on ourselves. Words are cheap, The Sun is full of Jim White,.............the more they bump their gums the better. ----------------- I'd prefer we don't hear much from Steven Gerrard when it comes to what he wants to do but instead see it happening on the pitch.
  14. Yes, I think he did underachieve. I guess it depends on your priorities but I've always put doing well in European football at the top of my wishlist. Whilst I can understand the practicalities and importance of winning domestic leagues, I think you come to a point where you have to look to kick-on and we never did. It seemed as although we signed players seemingly looking to step up levels, we nearly always came up short. Over the decades (not just Walter Smith's time) I've found that we've very rarely been as good as we could have been and the levels of professionalism at a big club regards preperation aren't as good as they could have been. On average it's been about one decent European season every decade,....not good enough IMO.
  15. If it's an official broadcast and not a pirate then there won't be any problems aslong as your connection speed is ok. Even pirate games are usually fine.
  16. O'Hallaron is taking the Michael and has been with a number of (in)actions over a period of time. He no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt IMO.
  17. What we have to look for is a couple of real quality players from Liverpool. I say Liverpool because it's the place where they'll hopefully be more more disposed to lend that real quality.
  18. Various actions over a period of time (and any input from his agent) would suggest it's very little to do with stupidity and much more to do with an ongoing and now longterm lack of interest in contributing something to the club in return for his wage.
  19. Does anyone know the rule about loans and the limit as to how many you can get from one club in a different association (ie. Liverpool) ?
  20. Is Skrtel running for President ?
  21. Apparently there were scouts from other clubs there to watch him in the game you mention that he didn't turn up for. Another issue was his sending off against Motherwell in January 2017. His lunge at McHugh after only 5 minutes seemed to be asking the referee to send him off. It was the last time he started a game for Rangers.
  22. Newcastle had already played the 4 v 4 several times in the competition and IMO it showed in the way they won the drop ball and in their patience in build-up / prioritising not giving ball away,...with possession.
  23. Something 'strange' happened in the hours leading up to KO At mid-day United were narrow bookies favourites to lift the Cup and were priced at around 17/20 to do so. They had been since the semi-finals. But in the hours just before KO there was a 180 degree switch. Chelsea became narrow favourites and United went out to around 21/20. That would suggest a lot of money went on Chelsea very late in the day.
  24. Lads were unlucky in the Final. We had more of the play but couldn't get a goal. In the 4 v 4 sudden-death extra-time perhaps Barjonas should have disputed the drop ball instead of Burt. The Newcastle lad seemed to want it that little bit more and once they got possession, we didn't get another kick.
  25. Watched half an hour and had to turn it off. Man Utd were awful. There is something not right at that club and they'd do well to get rid of Mourhino, who is on the downslope. Their board have made some awful decisions when it comes to appointing managers since Sir Alex left and the worst thing is you could see each mistake as it happened.
