  1. The 64/65 season before Celtic embarked on 9iar, they finished 8th !!! We came in at 5th. The season we won the ECWC was during their 9iar and we finished 3rd behind Aberdeen. I'd settle for a Europa League repeat !! Our league was relatively a lot better in European terms and much more competitive during the late 60's and early 70's. So I think it difficult to argue against it having more merit. We had a much better team to provide opposition in those times and reached 2 European finals. Celtic, in the 90's were impovishered and provincial like opposition. The least merit is reserved for the more recent 8.75iar.
  2. Better off with Santiago, the Alchemist.
  3. Around €16,270,000 from UEFA in participation fees, match bonus, co-eff. Not sure if Broadcast money included. Plus match day revenue https://www.football-coefficient.eu/money/#money-club
  4. To say running Rangers financially shouldn't be too difficult is for a comedy sketch.
  5. I don't think it is a very attractive proposition for a decent CEO. The only way I think you get a really good candidate is paying through the nose.
  6. The only way forward that I can see is getting competent executive management in. For them to be honest with the fans regards where we are as a club and realistic ways forward/timescales. Thereafter, the fans would need to be patient.
  7. This type of post is meaningless and off topic (I note you were very particular about this). Unlike the word omnishambles which perfectly describes the current state of Rangers.
  8. No, I don't trust them to sort things out. I have been on about the direction of travel for years. Been told to stop being so negative.....but now we are where we were always heading. Took too long but Bennett was right l. However, it is a hugely difficult challenge to arrive at sustainability and maintain it. The expectation levels / timescales of the support (another thing I have talked about for years) make it so much more difficult. This allied to the rude financial health of our main rivals. Of course, it is about bringing competent executive management in. Still won't be easy.
  9. Moving on is about getting our finances sorted out. Bennett told us the difficult truth. Souness tells us the moonbeams that many prefer to hear. What is plain is that we'd happily be duped again by spivs bearing warchests that evaporate into thin air.
  10. Stay on topic, please 🤣
  11. I explain why I don't take seriously what they say on the subject. I don't trust them. Not because of dishonesty, but for a proven lack of judgement. If Souness talks about football, then I will listen.
  12. Souness "recommended" sir Duped who ruined our club to the point of it being worth one pound sterling. That is SDM's legacy. Recently, Souness offers the line about the need to spend 50M on 3 players. He isn't thinking in the real world. Gordon Smith worked for the man with a pound coin (not a billionaire) and despite all his various talents, supposedly couldn't see through Craig Whyte. When the direction of travel was obvious to anyone with an objective brain. First and foremost, Rangers need to get their finances under control. Bennett told us what was needed. Challenging, to say the least but correct. Souness tells us what we prefer to hear but as it stands, is pie in the sky.
  13. Did Souness not encourage Sir Duped of Murray to come to Rangers ? Gordon Smith is so switched on that he was supposedly duped by Craig Whyte when directly involved. I will pass on their advice on matters such as how to run a football club.
  14. Ask John Bennett and his family.
  15. Clement talked of a meeting with the full board, in June. According to him, those at the table said, that if financial issues weren't properly addressed that the situation could become existential. Think about that. This was a meeting with those who are financing the club. Since then, we had a terrible summer transfer window where we could only bring in 810K for 5 permanent and 4 loan deals. Spend was over 13M and we still have to get the Barron fee confirmed. That shortfall will be for the next set of accounts in a years time.
  16. I'm waiting on the alternative you are going to offer
  17. Sir Duped of Murray was the main architect of our demise. He encouraged a habit of the quick fix to any problem. But the financing of that habit eventually broke us. The support got used to it and still want everything now, even when they have been told of the dire financial situation.
  18. Ask John Bennett's wife about deserving to be hounded out and the effects. Ask other financial backers and major shareholders who have and are keeping the lights on, how they feel about the situation. Ask yourself what happens if you hound out those keeping the club solvent. Tell us how you hound major shareholders out. Tell us what the alternative is. ______________ Fans do have to take some of the responsibility but that is for a separate post.
  19. Maybe a reason,.....is that the remit isn't very attractive. - impose real Austerity now - win everything immediately And if you don't you'll have an expectant and impatient support hounding you out.
  20. Aye, some may be interested but they won't bother bringing their wallets because they know our negotiating position is terrible. "Get your Rangers players here, two furra pound" Summer window Permanent deals Lammers, Goldson, Cantwell, Wright and McCrorie. Plus 4 Loans including Davis Total incoming: 810,000 sterling Source: Rangers accounts
  21. Many seem to think that Sanity Claus is coming to Ibrox soon, bearing many sack loads of money. As money doesn't seem to be an issue for them. A club and it's support addicted to hopeful rhetoric (eg. annual declaration that a player trading model is the way forward) and financial losses. Listen to John Bennett. He was the first person in a position of power to seriously begin to address the issue. Clement is our first manager who seems to have accepted that direction of travel and 'invested' in it. Break the habit!!
  22. So why haven't we done it ?
  23. We can only dream of a solid financial base, sensible medium to long term strategy and firm, unwavering leadership. 5 years of McCann, 60,000 capacity Stadium and 20 years of Lawwell. The trading model has taken them time to get right and they made a lot of mistakes en route. We have always wanted to take short cuts. Sometimes it worked for a spell but the general direction of travel was towards where we currently are. Time to do things properly and given finances, loss-making culture, expectations/timescales, it will be much more than challenging.
  24. Suddenly happen upon a player trading model, become sustainable and win trophies. Easy !!!
  25. You MIGHT get lucky and appoint the right people for a change. But turning this around will be painful and it will take time unless we are bringing in Harry Potter and his magic wand. Do you really think that this isn't difficult?
