This was about matching parts of a deal and we simply don't know what the outcome will be. We don't know how JDS will react to this wrt their costs towards a prospective deal with Rangers. We do know that we'll have significant legal costs to pay re. this case.

Last season, Lafferty started 36 games (League and Cup) and scored 19 goals. ie. he scores goals at this level, didn't have any significant injuries and you know what you are getting. Those goals include 3 in the league against Celtic (one in a significant 4-0 win), which was more than we as a team scored against them in 5 matches. I think that merits 500K if the manager wants the player. There is an argument regards age, lack of sell-on value and if we could source a younger 'better player' for a price we could afford then fair enough.

Some good points Gaffer.....An encouraging start and as a manager, Gerrard is a no-nonsense type of guy who has assumed authority quickly and easily. Buying from the English market (Burnley),...4.2M rings a bell and was mostly for potential. If we could get him for below 500K, I think it likely we'd get value for money. Going for another loan has it's risks. For balance, I think we've got enough players on loan unless we find a player that we think can make a difference, has real quality and is the type to come up and actually provide it on the pitch.
