Bottom line, I'd agree with putting the emphasis on quality. Another idea would be to try and allocate a part of the show to an 'original angle' / something exclusive. When you've had Steve (4LHAD) he's sometimes provided you with something in this ball park. Even going back to the Liverpool fan giving a topical insight into Flanagan worked well.

The obscene levels of money involved in football have converted what was part business / part sport into a corporate operation where the sport is almost incidental.
